springs to mind re your OH. He's lucky to have you, luckier still that in spite of such behaviour you try to help him.

It sounds awful but this can't go on indefinately without him incurring a major insult to his health. Perhaps that's the ' wake up call ' needed for one so blind to his own abuse.

Again my thoughts are with you lass, wishing you nothing but the best. You deserve so much better :))

Thanks Deanna, my dad went to the optician for a routine check up and the optician said to him, 'How long haven't you been able to see out of this left eye?' Dad said he didn't know he couldn't lol Turns out he had a blood vessel burst behind his eye and it had dried up so he was blind in that eye.
My o.h. is one of those people who will rebel against anyone in authority or who tells him to do something he disagrees with, so it's up to him. I keep trying to tell him that strong cider or even ordinary cider is not good for people on blood pressure tablets too, but he disregards my words, says I drive him to drink, but he had this problem way before I met him, he used to sit in the garage and drink to get away from his wife. Shame no one told me he had this problem when I first met him, his dad once said he was glad I seemed to have stopped him drinking?!! It was only then I got the full story. He is an alcoholic who won't acknowledge he has a problem but I have told his doctor and the specialist asked him, how much he drank, and the reply in front of me was astonishing, showed he was still drinking despite him trying to tell me otherwise, and the amount was shocking too, especially as he was driving about some weekends and going in to work at 5.30 am some Monday mornings, probably still over the limit!

Liz I am sure he will be okay.

I was diagnosed with TEMPORAL ARTERITIS after years of unbearable headaches which put me to bed for days at a time.
I was then seen by an optician who took a photograph of the back of my eye, which was blocked with clots.

I was then put on Steroids.... which blew me up like a balloon, and had all the tests your husband had.... Liz, I am sure he will be fine and I will certainly be sending all the positive thoughts I can muster.

he should really be careful on the amount of alcohol he drinks while he on aspirin
hes been put on that to thin his blood out and alcohol thins the blood also
he should really be careful.
But if he don't want to listen then thats his problem

Thanks folks, it doesn't matter that I try to feed him healthy stuff with just a few naughty treats sometimes, he buys biscuits when he goes to the shop for his pack up food. The supermarket is a five minute walk away so he goes everyday, and buys the cider and hides it, altho I try to persuade him to put it where I can find it so we can sometimes share a can with a meal or afterwards. He will buy chocolate puddings and cakes and biscuits which doesn't help my weight problems either. I wouldn't show him the thread as he is very scathing of the time I spend talking to my 'cyber friends' as he calls you all, he can't understand the concept of having friends you haven't met face to face, but he doesn't have any of those either. He is a difficult person to get on with.
Cinders, I am not in a position to leave at the mo, but am working on it - long story.
I am just hoping the specialist can make him see sense, he might have to have more tests after he has been using the aspirin for a while, I don't know, I wasn't around when he spoke to the gp on the phone and he only tells me what he wants to tell me, he isn't a very open person. I don't hold out a lot of hope tho, the specialist told him to stop driving when the suspected epilepsy was mentioned, and he refused, not to the specialist but to me and his son and his father, he has continued to drive since the first appointment.
So headstrong, so I won't take the blame whether I leave or stay.
Thanks for the support, Marion and Lynn, it is a relief in a way but medication might have stopped his nasty temper tantrums, if one of the symptoms of t-l e. is anything to go by.
We will see after the appointment in March.

liz, its not easy when thy wont listen is it

hopefully he will be made listen by by his specialist when he goes back

i dont know your situation, but from what you have put if you are that unhappy and thinking of leaving, maybe you should go sooner rather than later, if he does get bad news you will be trapped, and that wouldnt be good for either of you

Mine listened also. Thank God. I nearly lost him.

I had a big scare with him just before Christmas. Although he had lost quite a lot of weight he put himself on a diet, he still had a small heart attack and then they found other problems. A swollen Aorta which he had to have a major Op for. Please try and get him to loose weigh. My hubby loved his sweets Chocolate, Cakes Bikkies etc. But realizes now that they were just not good for him.
He does still have one glass of wine with dinner and the occasional dish of Ice Cream but he eats lot's of fresh fruit. If he fancies something sweet he has fruit usually instead.
If your hubby can't do without sweets then Dark Chocolate is the best thing for him. My Hubby occasionally has a little and I mean occasionally.
I let him have a treat of it about once a month.
I was an avid Baker and made lots of cakes etc. I just don't make them anymore and because I am the one doing the shopping I don't buy biscuits either.
Luckily for me I am not a sweet tooth.
Hope all goes well for him and that he eventually listens to you.
Why not show him the posts MAYBE he will change his mind

Hi Irene and Liz if your still here, my hubby has just gone through tests for diabetis Liz, he went for something else and had a blood test, the doctor called hom back for a starvation blood test as his sugar lever was sky high. It scared hubby i have to say but I said I think it was because of all the chocolates and biscuits he ate over christmas. He had his test and was on edge thinking he had diabetis, but it came back normal. He had a scare though and has cut right down on sugar and sweets now, and is losing a bit of weight, at least mine listened.

Wish someone could get through to him about the secret drinking, it is the biggest problem and cider is very fattening! He is one of these men who won't be told a thing and will rebel against everything!
Means it will be easier to leave when I am ready to, would have looked bad if I had gone if he had been diagnosed with the epilepsy, people would have said that was why I was going.

you supposed right about the asprin after reading this liz the high blood pressure weight and the sweet things and his age it wouldn't hurt to have a diabetic check if he hasn't had one best of luck

Glad they are taking care of your OH Liz must be a worry for you, hopefully the doctor will get through to him about losing weight and exercise as only a little bit will help.

My o.h. got a message to call his doctor - he has already had a letter from the hospital with a further apptmt with the neurologist, after his mri and eeg scans at the beginning of the month. His doctor told him the eeg was ok, but the mri showed some small blood clots so he has to have 75mg of dispersible aspirin daily until he sees the specialist in March. I suppose this is to thin the blood so no further clots occur or these clots break up. His father has had several tias in the last few years, but he is in his late 70's. I think o.h. is a bit young at 54 to have the same problem but it is obviously linked, I think. He has been having treatment for high blood pressure but will make no effort to lose weight or eat less of sweet things, and won't exercise despite his son offering to buy him a bike to use for work etc.
I was surprised they even found a brain in there lol
Glad it isn't the temporal lobe epilepsy they initially suspected but good thing they checked and found this problem so he can have treatment.
