Earlier this week I received an email from an old school friend, a chap I had a huge crush on when we were at school. I used to go to the local phonebox, as we didn't have a phone, and call him up on a pretext about homework, just to speak to him. He did invite me to parties at his house, his father was a very well known local artist and the house was very bohemian and free and easy. I was very naive and shy in those days so didn't get up to half the things some of the others did lol!
Anyway I left school, he stayed on and we lost contact. He must have gone to Uni or away as I never saw him around the usual haunts of our age group. Since I started doing our school reunions more than 20 years ago I have tried to track him down but without success. Last year he suddenly appeared on our school lists on Friends Reunited so I mailed him and we exchanged a few pms. He said he had tried to find my phone number when he came 'home' last year but as I am ex directory couldn't get in touch. He said he would mail me again and tell me more of his life when he sorted his head out! He did give me his direct mail address and I checked him out and saw he has a successful graphic design business in London. Before Christmas I emailed him and said Well, what happened? and last week he replied to that and said he would be in Norwich soon and could he take me to lunch on the 22nd Feb. I mailed him back saying I couldn't make the 22nd but was he here the 23rd and he mailed again, saying sorry, will only be there till the 17th! Dozy twit! He made a mistake with the dates on the first email!!! After me mailing him about his senior moments he has now apologised for being dumb and says he will come to Norwich again another time, just to take me to lunch! Will believe it when I see it!
It is 44 years since I saw him, and I am sure he won't recognise me as he never met my Mum lol. Whether he has changed or not I don't know, he gives nothing away.
I was so chuffed to think of meeting him and finding out what he has been up to personally wise, ie. married, kids etc and now I still have to wait to find out. Any ideas how I can get him to open up soon, my curiosity knows no bounds lol

ooooer - how exciting!!!!

Well it was Ann, till the discrepancy with dates was realised. He isn't sure at the mo whether he will be here tomorrow or Saturday but I was counting on a week to lose weight, colour my hair etc etc so no way am I meeting him this weekend!
Not in the right frame of mind and don't feel I look right, so will have to wait!

lol Liz......I can just imagine you trying to take years off.......but think about it, he will have matured too, and I bet he is trying to pull in his stomach and grow a few muscles....

Just relax and enjoy the meal, if he wants to let you know a potted history over the 44 years he will......but half the excitement is in the mystery, isn't it........I can't see you being lost for words, but please let us know what you can....because I am intrigued......

Awww Liz thats exciting:o))) So l take it you are not going on 17th then:o((( But you'll keep the emails going won't you?? ask the odd question on email, if not you're just going to have to wait:o(((

Sorry But I had the same thing ......and he looked like a tramp and his life was a mess ......So just enjoy and dont be to dissappointed with the out-come !!!

Liz, for reasons i can't say i am laughing about the 'losing weight and dying hair' part of your post ....!

But this I will say...I looked for an old workmate last year over on friends reunited...

I hadn't seen him for 27 years, since his wedding...and was thrilled to find him even though he is now in NZ...
I remembered him all these years as slim, dark wavy hair, gorgeous eyes etc...lol...and couldn't wait to see the photo...as in his emails he sounded just the same...sense of humour etc...

WELL! lol...even though I knew how much weight ,grey hairs etc had hit me in the meantime...the photo was still a shock..lol I would still have recognised his wife oddly enough...but would have walked straight past him without knowing...losing hair, carrying a fair bit of weight lol.....etc...

If you were friends back then...he will like you and you him for those same
reasons,hope you do meet and have a good chat!

Oh Liz, sounds so lovely!

I dont know if Im right but I feel the years will just melt away. I was in love with one of my school teachers big time and I feel my heart still flutter if i see him, hes almost 70 now lol.

I went to a school reunion last year and didnt recognise anyone, it had been 40odd years
i was most upset when a few people said that i hadnt changed, when i left school i weighed 6 1/2 stone (was called olive oyle) now i weigh a lot more so dose that mean i was fat grey and wrinkley when i as at school lol

Liz, we have such a lot in common. I have been in touch for a couple of years by email with my boyfriend from high school days, he even phoned me on one occasion. Now he wants to come up (probably a 2-3 hour drive!) one day in March and have lunch with me in town! He is married and so am I but I am quite excited about seeing him after 51 years (more than that since high school). At least I know quite a bit about his life as he has a website which I have visited and seen photos.
Like you, I am trying to lose weight, but that started before he suggested a meeting, for my health, but it has added to my determination to lose some, even if it is only 2 - 4 weeks to lose it! But he will see me fat, wrinkles (luckily not too many), grey hair and all. I am what I am. ALL of me.
