Wonder what they will do with all the homeless council tenants if they pass the propsed,,that some people reciving Incapacity Benefit,,,,,,dont find work,,,,,,,,,,they will stand to lose their house,,,,,,,,,
its proposed they sign to say tey will activly look for work,,,,,

At the risk of offending people I agree with it.

If I don't pay my mortgage I lose my home.

But think some amendments are needed all social housing should be paid for - even if occupier in receipt of benefits. Some people on benefit have a higher income then those working in low paid jobs - this should be taken into account.

But overall I'm in agreement - council houses generally have more maintainence done on them then owner-occupier properties cos we are struggling to pay the bills.

Wouldn't the council have a duty to rehome them? This is politics gone mad, an idea to make the department sound as if they are actually working on something. How it would benefit society as a whole I have no idea.

Lots of people are under the impression that local councils have a duty to*** house*** but they dont,they can make a person homeless with no obligation for re--home them,,,,,,,

I agree absolutely.

There is a whole generation, if not more, who now go through life with no intention of ever earning an honest crust, but expect the tax payer to fund them for free.

Over the years I have seen my tax go up, with a corresponding increase in the payments of benefits and the number of people who refuse to work from the day they leave school.

If I hadn't paid my mortgage, then I would have been dumped in the street. I wouldn't have even been given a council house.

This is one of the few sensible things to come out of this government in ten years.

I understand where you are coming from,,,but what they aim is those (some) in receipt of Incapacity Benefit to get them off it and out to work,,,that dont make sense to me if they recive IB then surley they are unfit for work,,,,,,,??unless I have read this propsal wrong..........?

I can name at least 3 people on Incapacity Benefit who are perfectly capable of working.

One of them is a compulsive house cleaner who washes her curtains at least once a month ??? Incapable of work - I don't think so.

Does that include people who claim DLA because they have a special needs bairn then?

Then Tor it's your duty to inform the social that this person/s you think is capable of working is wrongly in receipt of benefit,

I on the other hand take my IB because I am entitled to it.
I couldn't possibly afford to buy a home so live in a council house.
I also have no idea how the hell people manage to get benefits if they aren't genuinely entitled to it.

I know IB claim can cover a whole range of illnesses from depression to long term ie backs uncontrolled blood pressure,,,,,(hypertension) or even OCD,,


Perhaps it will give some a wake up call,,,,,,,,,,!

I have to walk through a council estate to get to my parents house,(not a council one...in case my mother who is a double for Hyacenth Bucket is looking in)) I pass new cars the latest in clothes walking down the street and the largest ever plasma TV's being delivered...and now the council are saying they will get 4 weeks free rent a year to help them budget for Christmas...what do I get off my mortgage lender?...so you have been made redundant..better get a job then hadn't you otherwise we'll seek a court order to sieze your house

But to those who need social (aka council or housing association) housing and can prove they need it then NO they should not be penalised through no fault of their own

The lady who washes her curtains sounds like she needs help! Maybe if she had supported work somewhere she could clean she would still feel in control and would get better.

There are always going to be those who shirk. Just imagine if they put all that ingenuity into a business they could make like Richard Branson!

No LIsa ..IB,cases where they have been off work for any good lenght of time....but can make it to the pub daily and have many luxries that others dont. who work,,wether they are C/tenant or homeowner,,,,,,,,

Thanks Kay and Gillie, It's just my OH claims DLA as we have a special needs son and he also claims carers allowance as he is our sons carer, but didn't know if with him not working if would affect him or not.
But he used to work until our son was born, but we are not one of these families that have luxeries like some do and we only live in a council house

I agree she could work - however she has a partner to look after and if she worked his dinner won't be on the table when he got in from work.........Her words.

i read where a DLA man paralysed on one side did a sponsored bike ride of 200miles for leukemia (very admiral) he has two small children at this stage in remission,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,he has now had his benefit stopped,,,,,,,,,,,,,hes up in arms,,,,,,,,,,,,,!!!stupid man,,,,,,,,,,

Ditto Lisa, I am on long term IB, I live in a council house, and haven't got the luxuries others have, haven't got a posh new car, and I haven't had a holiday in 15 years and am unlikely to now.

Omg I lied, I was taken to Belgium with my son in laws family to see my new grandson for a weekend 5 years ago, it cost me nothing.
