Hello everyone.. Micky is looking bright this morning.. shame about Margaret though. I have an appointment at the veterinary this evening for her.

They were nice and warm last night and are eating well, which is a huge relief.

Thanks again for your support.

Oh, i'm so glad he's got a cage mate - she'll keep him warm enough!!!!!
I used to have this gorgeous guinea called tiny (HE WAS HUGE, LOL) and he used to sleep with my bunny and keep her warm when she was ill, little guy used to clean her too - i'm sure thats what kept her going for so long.....

That herb garden i absolutly swear by - i had a bunny (Toothbunny aka Jean-claude) who has an abcess - they said there was nothing could be done - i gave him the herbs and the abcess completely went - the vet said it has NEVER been heard of before - i'm sure it's down to all that herbie goodness.....

Will be thinking of little Micky and sending healing thoughts...
Thanks for letting us know how he is..

Thank you all so much for your concern and support.

Micky and Margaret sleep in a 6 x 8' shed normally and have a run with secure and draught free accommodation for the day time. I have brought them into the house, snuggled them in. They have thick cardboard and newspaper lining a pallet with half a bale of hay and their favourite curly kale and nice goodies.. anything to keep him eating and drinking. ... it's marginally warmer than their shed and they are probably warmer than I am. Tomorrow I will look for something like Daff, Susan and Valium have said and a trip to Asda for some Herb Garden .. thank you Lou. I'll try him on some porridge too..
The veterinary said to keep them together... if Micky was infectious, Margaret would get it regardless.

I have to give him antibiotics twice a day for 14 days and will keep my fingers crossed.

Thank you again, I know everyone understands.

Tina x

Thank goodness you've caught it in time!!!!!

If he is an outdoor rabbo it's not a good idea to bring him in - it causes 'sniffles' and will add to the pneumonia!!!
If he's an indoor rabbo already put him somewhre ventilated - not in a direct draft though...

All he needs is a clean dry hutch with plenty of soft dry hay for bedding, a supply of fresh water and lots of love and rest....
I also add fresh herbs to my poorly rabbos diets - there is a ready made bag you can get from Asda called herb garden - i swear by it!!!!!!!!

Like i said - i had a wonder bunny - Billy- who fought off pneumonia quite a few times, each time we thought that was it - but they are tough little cookies!!!!!!!
Give him a huggle from me..And if you need anything just Holla!!!!!!!!

LOU XXXXXXXXxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ps. forgot to say - if it's an outdoor hutch you can hang an old blanket (not a really thick one) over the front (outside) of his cage - this will keep the ventilation but prevent too much cold getting in!! xxx

Best wish for a speedy recovery Micky. He may burst a hot water bottle have you got any of those maze pads you put in the microwave. Valxxx

I don't really know anything about rabbits, but I don't like to think of any animal being poorly. So I hope your little rabbit is soon on the road to recovery!! Take care of yourself too Tina.

We got some igloo type cat beds from Tescos for abt £8.....I think one of them would be ideal for keeping the rabbit warm...especially as he wont be feeling like moving about for a while.

Dont know if they still have them...was a couple of weeks ago...but you can buy them from pet stores...just that the tesco ones were much cheaper and nicer looking/better made

If he's not feeling well he won't be in the mood for trying to burrow. can you put a hot water bottle in his hutch under his bedding?

I remember from when I was a child my rabbit loved eating warm mashed potato skins with bran added. (Made warmer with water from the kettle) I think porridge made with warm water is OK for bunnies.

Just found this, too.... i thought I'd seen it somewhere.... heaven aloneknows why I'd bookmarked it, lol

*Treating Pneumonia in Pet Rabbits

Treatment with broad spectrum antibiotics will work well
if the infection is caught in time. If left to gain strength, too
much lung tissue will have been destroyed and the rabbit
cannot be saved.

Steaming with a human vaporizer and Vicks will often bring
relief to a pet rabbit with pneumonia, when used in conjunction
with antibiotics. *

Everything is crossed for you

Love
