Thanks Janet Countdown to pay day begins then - I need quite a few certs for this family - it's sooooooo complicated. If she wasn't already dead, I think I would have killed her by now! Debby

I have used the Leeds local office after finding references on Yorkshire BMD and have received certs within the week.

Brilliant! Might use that site more then as it really narrows the search. Are local offices quicker than GRO? Thanks Debby

The GRO reference numbers are used ONLY by the GRO. The local offices have their own numbers.

Debby The GRO reference numbers are only of use to the GRO. Local offices use their own system. I am sure that if you ask them to check the details before sending the cert they will do so. why not give them a ring and see? nell

I'm trying to decide which birth certs to send for to solve a mystery regarding my gg grandmother. For one of her children there are 5 possibles on Ancestry but on Yorkshire BMD they've split them down into sub districts and there's only entry for the district I'm interested in. The ref number is totally different to Ancestry (they all are) so do local register offices use different references and do they also let you state you only want the cert if mother/father is so and so?
