My gt gt aunt Annie was baptised Annie and appears as Annie on all the censuses up to and including 1891. She then married in 1896 as Elizabeth Anne and that is how she appears on the 1901 census. I also have a set of great-uncles who have two first names. Some are consistent, but I also have Walter Randel Randel Walter Randal etc for one and on one census my ancestor John william became Jas William (the image is quite clear)! nell

People hardly ever used the same names twice in a row lol I have Edwards becoming Edwins and Wrights becoming William. Gets very confusing. I'd look under both names when you look for his birth cert, just in case :)

Hi all, I'm new to all this and have come across a little problem already! My great grandad was known to his family as Henry George and this is what it says on his death cert. Yet on his marriage cert his name is George Henry. Haven't started to look for his birth cert yet but I just wondered if this is something you come across often? Thanks Dawn
