Would anyone know where I can find any information about Reads of Manchester - in particular the owners. They were one of the earliest firms to manufacture the Donkey stone. Many thanks, Kate |

Good Heavens ! Didn't know they had the name 'donkey stone' but sure takes me back to my gran doing the window cills and steps; goes together with Reckitts Blue, Brasso, fly paper, Ajax and taking the wireless accumulator to be charged. Happy Days ! |

Google says it was Eli WHALLEY.I 've checked him out on the 1871-1891 Census returns.They list him as a blacksmith from Dukinfield...maybe it's not the same man. |
