Good Heavens ! Didn't know they had the name 'donkey stone' but sure takes me back to my gran doing the window cills and steps; goes together with Reckitts Blue, Brasso, fly paper, Ajax and taking the wireless accumulator to be charged. Happy Days !

You were lucky - I had to do the steps with Red Cardinal. It dyed your hands a deep shade of indelible red - I looked like a mass-murderer for most of my childhood. Marjorie

You can still get Brasso and Ajax, my mum uses it all the time.

Yep, I realise that you can still get some of these things but sometimes you have to hunt for them too, but in general I think that people now prefer the easy ways out. My gr'kids never heard of malt or Scotts emulsion - let alone tasted it. I remember they were a 'norm' including cod liver oil and ... errrr sometimes sennapods ! Now they got wireless stuff in P C World - cant even get Daventry or Luxembourg on them !
