Sarah on GR was offering look ups for the Times Newspaper and found an interesting article about an attempted murder on one of my ancestors in 1848. Does anyone know a site where I might be able to read more about this crime. Many thanks Irene |

what paper was it in? and what area of the country? If you live near that place you could go to the library near and look at papers there |

Sarah found it in the Times Newspaper but the trial would have been later and I sm interesting in reading the details. The attempted murder was St.George in the East.EastLondon. I live in Norfolk. Regards Irene |

Local history centres/larger libraries have back issues of local newspapers on microfilm. If you have a date to go on, they may be able to search & send a photocopy. Cirencester Library recently sent me 3 x A3 pages about the trial of one of my relatives for £3.50. If there was a trial you might be able to get further details (though not a transcript) from the Assizes records at Kew. nell |

Thanks Nell. I thought I read on this board before that you can look up old newspaper articles. I will check out and see what I can find. Thank you for your help. Irene |

Sarah sent me the article from the newspaper, The Times, when the event happened but the trial would have been later - did you find out what happened to George Mason that committed the crime. Regards Irene |
