Hi David Have you tried looking on the National Archives site. http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ Try searching the Catalogue by name and/or Regiment. I had some success with my gtgt grandfather who was in the the 1st Royal Dragoons (1855-1877) and my gtgtgt grandfather who was in the Cambridge Militia (1793-1816). Some records can be searched for a fee, and others they will download a file by e-mail. Again there is a fee involved. You do however have to have some basic info. to give to them to enable them to search the records. Have a look at the above site and see what you think. Regards Ericx |

Hi Dave , 1st Kings Dragoon Guards. their history goes back to 1685,when the regiment was raised by James 2nd at the time of Monmouth's rebellion. It was then known as the Queens Regiment of Horse, The regiment served at Sedgemore ; under William the 3rd it fought at the Battle of The Boyne and in Flanders.Upon its return in 1714 it became 'The Kings Regiment of Horse ' The regiment was back in Flanders in 1742 at Dettingen . In 1746 it was re-organized and became the 1st ( or Kings ) Regiment of Dragoon Guards. In 1759 it was in Germany, being present at Minden and Warburg. It was again in Flanders in 1793. At the Battle of Waterloo ( 1815 ) it was brigaded with the Household Cavalry : it served before Sevastopol in the Crimean War. In South Africa , in 1879: it fought at Ulundi . It served again in South Africa in the Boer War. The war of 1914-18 did not lend itself to many cavalry actions on the Western Front, but the regiment rendered sterling service. In 1919 it won a fresh battle honourfor its part in the Afghanistan operations. --------------- I also have a picture of the regiments badge if you are interested ? |

I have 2 rellies who, according to their headstone, served 20 and 30 years with the 1st Dragoon Guards between abt 1760 and 1815. They were buried in Haworth Yorks. Where can I find more info on where they served and their regiment etc. Dave Bland |
