Before 1851 1841 census not available online, apart from selected counties, subscription (British Origins) or payperview (www.familyhistoryonline*com). 1841 census is not as helpful as others, as it does not state relationships between household members, and only states whether or not they were born in the county. Ages are rounded up/down to nearest 5 years in some cases. Before 1841, there were censuses 1801, 1811, 1821 and 1831, but many of these were just headcounts and not all survive. So, you mainly rely on parish records - baptisms, marriages, burials (you can find births, marriages and deaths from 1st July 1837 in the GRO indexes, remember). Poor law records might show if your relative was in receipt of parish relief, or paying for an illegitimate child, quarter sessions records might reveal whether s/he was involved in petty crime. Tithe maps can show where they lived. All these documents are in county records offices and/or local history centres. Google to find what is held at the ones you want. You might also get lucky by typing the name of your relative or the village you want into the search box of The National Archives site or www.a2a.org nell

1841 census of some counties is available - heavily rumoured that the 1841 for the whole country will soon be on Äncestry. Have you checked the IGI on family search ? Have you checked the BI VRI (British Isle Vital Records Index) ?

Can anyone tell me how they manage to get beyond that 'date' and trace further ancestry into the deep and distant past? I know 'm only a beginer but beyond that time, it's a mystery to me! Can some one be kind enough to put me on the right road. Any help and info will be great. Cheers in anticipation
