Hello

I am going round in circles trying to find a GedCom download so that I can view my Ancestry tree on my PC.

Anyone able to help please

Thanks

Where is your tree? GR? or Ancestry?

A GEDCOM file has to be uploaded to some genealogy site. On its own it just looks like gobbledygook.

If your tree is on GR and you want to export it elsewhere:

https://www.genesreunited.co.uk/help/faqs?key=449

If it's somewhere else and you want to upload it to GR:

If downloading from GR, and it seems to be stuck and never finishes, contact:

Hi

Thanks for the links.

My tree is on Ancestry and I thought I would be able to download a GEDCom app?

I’ll have a play with those links

Sorry forgot to ask. If I can’t download GEDcom software how can I view and print my tree from my PC?

Thanks

See your other thread for instructions for downloading from Ancestry.

I don't understand your question.
You would have to print your tree from whatever family tree programme or site it's on - GR, Ancestry , or other site.

Hi

I want to send my tree to a printer but I can't see how I can do that if the file is nonsense.

Sorry about the first thread, I realised I had posted it on the wrong board so marked it as answered, maybe I should delete it?

You can certainly download your tree to your computer, and then print it.

But you can only make sense of what it says when you've uploaded it to another family tree site or programme.

By the way, when you download your tree as a GEDCOM file, that's only a copy of your tree , in GEDCOM format.
Your tree will still be on the site from which you downloaded the file.

Google ‘Gedcom’ and learn what it entails

Thanks, I'm sorry for being a little dim.

So if I want to send my downloaded tree to a printing business so they can print it for me, how do I send it to them?

Thanks

Gee it's not a recommendation as other sites are available and may suit you better, but this page carries info for the various sites from which you might need to download, eg from Genes Reunited, Ancestry etc https://www.my-history.co.uk/acatalog/GEDCOM-Files-.html

You can email the file to a printing firm as an attachment.

Not sure if they will be able to work from that, though.
Best to ask them what they want.
