I am trying to find out more of my partners family with the above surname. Going to Russian sites is hard as we dont speak it. She is from Poland but we believe her ggrandfather was in a Russian(Belarus) prison and died there, but we cant find any info. Anyone have dealings with genealogy from that way?

Malyon - Joczyn is the surname.

MarcasO - advice re Belarus research and list of websites here:

https://archives.gov.by/eng/index.php?id=12

And Russia:

https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Russia_Genealogy

A Google search will supply more - though perhaps you've already done that.

It sounds as if you'd have to know the relevant town or area in order to research.

Thanks. I better dig out the laptop as i cant view on my phone. The Joczyn men are Alfons(who mysteriously died). He had son Edmund born in Poland. I think Alfons wife left Belarus/Russia after her husband died. This was all around the Stalin era i believe.

Yes. Edmund is part of the same family. This seems to be such an unusual name that what google turns up is the same relations one way or another.
