Mel Fairy Godmother Report 18 May 2021 09:22

Morning all,

Not really a nice morning here as its cloudy and very grey. We have had some bright spells this morning earlier but now there are very dark clouds coming over. No gardening after the big wipe down today me thinks.

Slept really well after clearing the path yesterday so I am ready for the big wipe down.I have a few subs today and they hav'nt got my bloomer loaf. They changed Ainsley Harriotts soups for bachelours chicken and veg which I already have, the t rolls for their brand so I don't want those and 2 heinz veg soups for spring veg soups which are watery.

No not hand weeded I used my trusty little L shaped tool (cost me 50p I think ) to go into the groves in the pavers and my spade to do most of the edge until oh brought me the edger which I don't get on with very well. I shall give it a wash down tomorrow and there are a couple of rooty bit of grass still in there. My little gnome Di bought oh cos she said it looked like my in my garden coat and hat. I shall repaint him this year as he's a bit washed out now.

One of my favorite gardening helpers is a pair of grabbers we got free with Gardeners World magazine when it first came out. So good I bought a second pair from the garden center as they pic up so much more than you can with your hands. Leaves dirt and gravel is easy to pick up with them.

I may have a go at those progams tonight Mandy as there is'nt anything else on.

Wow Mel! your path! Don't tell me you hand weeded it? It looks lovely, as does what we can see of your garden. Radox or Epsom salts soak?

I don't if Frank said whether he was taking his scooter. When I first got my motor bike (a long time ago) there were safe places with instructors to help build up the confidence and road safety before hitting such places as Hyde Park Corner LOL
I wonder if there is such a place for mobility scooters so Frank can get going with his?

AnninGlos Report 17 May 2021 19:44

He didn’t mention taking it did he?

Yes the main reason was it wouldn’t start so they fetched it in to the garage and fitted a new battery but while it was there I asked them to check it over as it had hardly been driven this year, which they did and it looks like it will soon Ned two tyres. MOT is due end of July.

So you had a little trip out AnnG ,was it just the battery that was the trouble with the car not starting ,when we use to take the car to the car wash they would always move the seat and it was a job to get it clicked back to where i liked it .

I wondered if Frank would take his scooter too but i don't think he had had a trail run on it so maybe not .

Evening all

Mel, why cant you grow PSB? Off to check my email, will report back.

Thanks Mandy, still having 'moments' but so many happy memories.

I wonder if Frank if popped his mobo scooter in the boot for a blip around Devon? :-D

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 17 May 2021 18:40

Mandy no I didn’t go to the garden centre as the weather was not good. I did drive the car down the road to the nearest roundabout and back, not far but I wanted to check I had got the driving position back where it was before the garage had it.

Mel you did well with that path and the rickety looks good.

Evening all,

I'm here Mel just been busy in the garden trying to get some more baskets planted up before the rain came , when it did come about four o'clock it tipped out of the sky for about ten minutes then out came the sun again .

Hope Frank has arrived in Devon OK and has a nice stay with no mishaps

Vera I hope your muscle pain soon eases but it can take a while ,I find if I over stretch it plays my side up a couple of days later, you just have to take it easy for a while ,I hope you enjoyed your tea and cake with your friends .

Nice to see you posting Island ,it takes some getting use to a quiet house when you lose a pet :-(

AnnG did you get to the garden centre .

Mel what crafting are you doing ,I've made a couple of more bags ,im waiting for some more Interfacing to come before I can make any more .
You asked about the new series that started last week ,no we never watched that but there is a couple of new ones on tonight ,The Pact on bbc1 and Innocent on itv so we'll watch one and record the other one.

We also recorded Kew Gardens a year in bloom that was on last Thursday but we haven't watched that yet .

I wonder how things are going at Gills I expect there has been lots of clearing up to do ,when you knock a chimney out there's plenty of dust and soof too I expect.

We have had a roast chicken tonight with roasties and veg

Safe journey Frank its just poured with rain here and stopped me gardening. I have cut down the dead off the very ancient Lavender on the corner of the rockery bit which I look out on from the sink. I have left one bit of it which has some leaves on it as I love the Lavender and its been there for over 25 years.

I have put in the space a white rockery Alisum and a pink Phlox hoping they will hang over the wall. I dug out the mollis that was on the corner too as it seeds itself everywhere.

Wish I could grow some purple sprouting brocc.

Where's our Mandy?

O I think it may have stopped raining so I can carry on for half an hour clearing the path down the side of the rocky bit.

Morning all

Anng, Vera and Mel - I tried posting three times yesterday. First, my laptop froze for two hours. Second, something somehow closed me down - losing my longish post.
Third, around midnight, I spotted GR had reappeared with my post - yippee! I finished typing it, clicked 'submit' and got the sign in page! What???

to recap briefly, Anng, I meant it was 'quiet here' meaning at home but yes, general chat isn't moving much.
Mel, yes the PSB seeds which I've just sown are for next year. They are slow growing so I'm only going to aim for six so they occupy less space. Made PSB and stilton quiche yesterday, a joint effort. Yummy.
Vera, our garden isn't big enough for all those plants. I always sow a lot in case some fail and so I have some to give to others. I tried growing caulis a few years ago, only one produced a (rather feeble) head -- even the dog looked at it with disdain! Never one to miss a photo opportunity, I'll have a look for it.
Enjoy your break Frank, safe journey.

Cooee Von. I haven't been well.

Good morning AnnG and all

No sun here. It rained heavily late evening and quite a bit during the night. Now it’s just very grey and damp.

I didn’t sleep much again as this pain in my side is worse laying down and even sitting up in bed I kept waking every few minutes. Then of course I kept yawning and that hurts too.

Our friends are coming for.a cup of tea and piece of cake this afternoon. The wife has to have a Covid test in the morning and then they have to self isolate until she has a hospital appointment on Friday, so today’s the only day this week they can come. At least they can come inside from today so we won’t be sitting in the garden with umbrellas up.

Have a nice day everyone.

AnninGlos Report 17 May 2021 06:49

Good morning all, sunny and 9 degrees already but rain forecast (that will make a change!) slept ok but do wake early because it is so light. Garden bin day tomorrow so I ought to see if there is anything to go in that, I would like to get to the garden centre sometime too as I need more compost. next door are having a new fence today so neighbour's car will be on my drive when she is back from the hairdresser so If I want to go out in my car it will have to be while she is out. so I will see how things work out.

Vera, I suspect they are not growing because of the wet/cold so will catch up when it warms up a bit.

I hav'nt been in the garden much at all today but I did have the murky corner out in the kitchen where the toaster lives. The tray was so full of crumbs I thought I was'nt going to make it to the sink but I did. got all the old stuff out of the fridge and washed the pots and filled up the recykling bin. Some how the fridge has been turned up to 6 and when I got the bacon out for lunch it was frozen so were the tomamtoes I had'nt put in the draw and his red pepper which has thawed out but is all soggy.

Sending love to Frank and hope he's ok. <3

Lovely to see you Island. You've been very busy with your veg. I'm jealous. All I really have room for here are a few tomatoes and herbs in pots. My tomatoes germinated really well in a seed tray. I then potted the ones I wanted up into little pots and have just recently put them in their final big pots. Now they seem to have stopped growing. I have these pathetic little things that are just sitting there doing nothing (sigh). Good luck with the cauli. When we had a big veg plot at our old house I grew loads of stuff but I never had any success with caulis.

I haven't done a lot today. I did manage to spill half my breakfast down my dressing gown so that had to go in the wash and I cooked a roast chicken dinner with lots of veg. We had that just after 2 pm and I still feel as though I have eaten too much. I don't think I'll want much more tonight.
