Been helping oh with the mower and hav'nt ventured up the border yet.

AnninGlos Report 30 May 2021 13:16

Sun is very warm but when a cloud goes over it the stiff breeze is quite cold. Just spent 2 hours out there, mainly potting up all the plants I bought on Friday, good job I got a bag of compost, half gone already.

Morning Anng and all,

Beautiful sunny day here again today and still plenty to do inthe garden. Maybe today I could get up the border??????? we'll see. I must go up and take a few pics as thebearded iris are out and the big red poppy. I also need to take a look at my clematis I cut right back as I bet they have gone wild since the rain and I need to wrap one around the oblisk thing.

I sowed some diathus seed a few days ago and was surprised to see they are up already. They are in the uti room and I am hoping they are the ones I have had before and they seem to survive inthe border for a few years. Tehy flower for a very long while and are low growing.

Hope you all slept well or as well as can be expected. I sl;ept in a bit this morning but still managed to save one egg fro the fantom eggynoo eater. She was sitting on it. Whether she wil lay an egg or not I don't know but I left her inthe nest box and hope she was'nt just lurking till another hen came in.

Good morning all, it has been brilliantly sunny here since 0530, I hope it is going to continue as tomorrow looks like we are back under the cloud all day again. Gardening is on the list again today of course, and I have another small load of washing to do. I am showered and hair washed and pleased that I am exactly the same weight as I was before we went away (which is still heavier than I should be.

Vera, I had a chuckle at the bulbs your oh was binning. I bet he did the same as i keep doing, pulled them up when weeding.
It is strange being back on my own now and back to missing T so much, especially when I have garden questions that only he could answer. Still I am getting there, it was a jungle when we got back and I am still not supposed to lift or do anything that stretches my upper back. so even though it was damp, daughter strimmed the lawn and SiL mowed it, then we put the mower in the greenhouse so that I can get it out easily, couldn't before because of having to lift it down the step of the shed..

today will be more gardening I think, my garden bin is almost full but it will be collected on wednesday. The clematis seems to be growing a mile a minute as does the honeysuckle so I need to tackle some of that. then there are weeds I don't want in the wild flower beds to pull out and some of the forget me nots have gone over, so they can come out too. I think the problem with my baskets is that I didn't use the best soil for the job as I was unable to get basket compost so it is not quite loose enough. However, this year is very much hit and miss and experiments so hopefully I am learning for the future. (always assuming there is one, I have learnt the hard way not to assume too much!)

Hope you all have a good sunday. BBL

Good morning all

An overcast, nothing sort of day so far but we are supposed to be getting the sun in a couple of hours and then it should be bright and warm for the rest of the day. Apart from cooking a roast pork dinner I’ve no plans for the day.

What a to do with Lewis’s test results Mandy, but it’s good that it’s negative.

I hope you enjoy your Sunday lunch today Ann. It’ll make a change from cooking. We don’t usually have takeaways and it must be about 18 months since we had a meal out. I need to work up to it gently with just a coffee somewhere first. I hope your OH’s elbow isn’t too painful and his ear problem is clearing up. I laughed at you snapping OH in his slippers. What usually happens with my best beloved is that, if he wants to get rid of something, he just keeps niggling away at me until I can’t stand it any more and tell him to take it out. I honestly don’t think he knows he’s doing it. I did catch him putting some bulbs in the garden bin recently. He declared that he was sure they were alliums - they weren’t - grown from self seeding. Some had already made it to the bin but I made him replant the ones still in his hands.

As to slippers, we both have garden clogs ready by the back door but we’re both quite bad about going out through the conservatory door in slippers or even just socks.

I hope OH can get his mowers sorted soon Mel. With all your grass it must be a nightmare when they are kaput.

Thank you for your nice comments on our garden. Other people’s always look better to me. Ours seems a bit of a messy hodge podge. After 7 years I think I am still struggling with having such a small garden. Don’t miss the work in a big garden but there were enough jobs there to keep OH occupied so he left my flowers alone

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 May 2021 19:46

VERa the garden is looking really lovely and thank you for the pictures as its nice to see where you have been working.

Mandy thats not really good enough with the test being lost and all the family being off work for a week or so. Just as well the postal test came back quickly. You'll know to do those in the future if it has to be done again.

It was really hot here today but the sky clouded over a bit late afternoon and looked like it was threatening rain. We sat out on the decking by my pond and had a coffee and a naughty doughnut and watched the fish feeding. I think thats the first time we have done that for years.

Oh still can't get the mower going or the old one. The only one that working is the zero turn and that has'nt got its mower deck on cos thats what oh has been doing up. So the grass is growing before our eyes and when you have as much as we have thats not funny.

I did'nt get up the border as when I looked at my plants outside the shed that bl**dy rarebit has eaten everything. He's had a joyful salad of michealmas daisys, campanulas, golden rod, my blue grass and the varigated one and the LUPINS which I thought were poisonous. I grew the lupins from seed and they have been in the shed all winter and I potted them on with the mother plants which I sowed the seed from and they have eaten that one too. I think it may have been the rabbit that ate the rose on the rockery now.

Ann its good the new bed will be arriving soon and fancy taking a pic of G in his new slippers outside. Caught on Candid Camera eh? He could'nt deny that could he?

My strawberry netting arrived today this afternoon so I can get that on the barrow now although the plants arn't up to scratch this year but we will get a few and oh really only likes the ones I grow.

Oh said to put some of the plastic netting aropund the plants outsid ethe shed but just as I got to the end he wanted me to turn the key on the mower so he could see if the pistons were moveing so I hav'nt been back to put it right round.

Suns shining again now and oh is going in the shower and I am going to do the burgers and there's a nice bottle of Rose' in the fridge.

Well I have rambled on this evening so I better go and get something to eat or we will both waste away, I don't think......... :-)

Lovely photos Vera it is such a lovely garden.

Well you all seem to have been lucky with the weather.I didn’t see the sun until about 4.30 this afternoon and then it was weak and warm not hot. It has been a warm day so I was outside until 5pm doing a bit of cutting back and a bit of weeding.

I am very bad at nipping outside with slippers on.

He wasn't fibbing Annx - they were probably so comfy he'd forgotten he had them on. Easily done - I was halfway to a hospital appointment (on foot) when I realised I was wearing my slippers. I just carried on, anything goes in London LOL
My fella goes out in his slippers :-D

One thing I don't like is women sauntering across camp sites in dressing gowns to the shower block - 'get a tracksuit madam, you're not at home!' LOL

Annx

Annx Report 29 May 2021 14:55

Afternoon All,

Boy it's hot here now.......too hot to plant up the 2 other pots just yet.

I meant to say it was all over our local paper about those lobsters Mel. It was so lucky that that chap realised how rare they were and that they are now living at Sea Life in Birmingham, (I've been there once.) It would be good if they were a pair and they could breed them.

OH has just been to a match Peterborough way, only to find that there is only cricket going on so he is on his way home again, possibly to detour to a match at Quorn nearer home.

We went to the bed place this morning and were the only customers and have ordered the new bed. Most seem to have gliders instead of little wheels these days which will be much better on the hard floors in the bedrooms, which is another job on our list to get done soon and lose the carpets. It was funny watching OH test the mattresses with his stiff neck and achey hips and back after yesterday's weeding, so it was a good job I had my mask covering my grins, .......it speeded up him making his mind up! They are made to order and it will be delivered a week on Thursday and they will put it together in the room for us as well which is good. They will take the old one away if we want, but the lady said we may find the council cheaper so I will check that out next week.

Our SKY boxes have all stopped working again last night, after needing lots of rebooting since they brought us the new main SKY box. The messages suggest the the main box isn't connecting to the new router now but we can't even check the settings till we get a new telly as the main telly doesn't work at all now! :-S So when OH gets back we are going late to Curry's down the road to see if we can choose one from all the choices there are these days. Then we will have to get the SKY man back in to set things up again. What a palaver and MORE EXPENSE as Frank would say.

I'm nipping out in my car to see if there are any nice photo opportunities next and to charge the battery up.

I hope you soon get your appetite back Frank and Vera is right, little and often if you can manage it and keep hydrated. I think I would be avoiding the noisy children's birthday bash too.......all that shrieking as they have such big ones these days, not just having your best friend for tea!

Vera, take some photos of the plants, then you have 'evidence' if he moves them! lol. When we were away OH took his new slippers . We don't usually wear our slippers outside, but what did I see.....he was popping out to the car to get something in them, so I took a photo with his back to me so he didn't see. Fast forward next day and he was about to pop out again so I said I thought it wasn't a good idea to be getting his new slippers wet in the grass. 'Oh I never wear them outside' he protested. Out came the 'evidence' and it shut him straight up instead of the usual denial and protest. He had to laugh that I'd caught him out. We have to be on our toes with these men when they argue! lol

SuffolkVera Report 29 May 2021 12:41

Good to see you Frank. If you don’t feel like eating much, just go for little and often but make sure you have plenty of liquid.

It is a beautiful day now; sunny and warm and hardly any wind. I did an hour’s gentle gardening sitting on a low stool. I planted up a couple of penstemon cuttings, weeded one tiny patch and cleared away a load of the dead daffodil leaves. I also supervised OH planting up 4 troughs with my geranium cuttings. At the moment I’ve got him trimming two globe shaped box plants but that might have been a bad move as he can be a bit clipper-happy.

We also had a discussion (that’s the polite way of putting it ;-)) about what to take out of the garden and what to leave in. He says he will plant whatever I like so how come the things I like keep being removed and the things he likes remain? It’s a good job we love each other because I think we are completely incompatible. Don’t they say opposites attract?

I took a few pictures in the garden which I’ll send round later. Meantime I’d better get some lunch for my incompatible other half.

Nice to see you Frank. Hope all your seeds come up. Ros will be pleased if the weather is like today for the BBQ.

I have sown some seeds and repotted the other Penstemon and generally fiddled around. Helped oh move the mower to the ramp. He towed it I just guided it round there. Just as well he got the big zero turn mower going as thats the only one working at the moment.

Frank Report 29 May 2021 11:04

Good morning to you all,

I had another BAD NIGHT. Feel very tired now.

I have watered back and front gardens, greenhouse and veg plot. Ros has put 4 wigwams of runners in, carrots and beetroot.See what comes up.

Ros is going to Kerry's tomorrow for a BBQ for Alexanders Sixth Birthday. It will be far to noisey for me, with all the children running around. Kerry has a very large garden, with a small river running through it. Mark has built climbing things, rope swings, and so many things to keep the children entertained.

Ros is bringing me a Roast Dinner in a tray. I will heat that, if, and when I feel hungry.
Going by what I ate yesterday, and nothing again today, I doubt t will get eaten.

I hope you are all well. Speak again soon. xxxx

Quite misty here this morning but not cold, in fact it feels humid. We are supposed to get sun today but no sign yet. Have a load of washing in of course, and have done the floors of the lounge and conservatory and straightened the lounge. I do have lots to do but need motivating as I feel a bit lost and lonely this morning. Always the same on Saturdays and I have no idea why.

Morning AnnG and all

Safe journey back for your daughter.

Dry at the moment with one of those milky skies that can’t decide whether to let the sun through or not.

It was a nice tea party yesterday in friend’s garden but I was glad I’d taken a cosy woollen jacket as a bit of a breeze got up. Not sure what I’ll be doing today. I really want to garden but I can feel my back pulling now and don’t want to make it worse.

Whatever you do enjoy your day.

Morning Anng and all,

Quite a bright morning here so let hope it stays that way.

That was a nice selection of plants Anng. I would love a new Rosemary bush and the other things sound lovely. You're going to have a lovely show in the garden again this year. Can't wait to see some pictures.

Have to go to the shop today fo the paper and I can spare 6 eggs for Emm then the rest of the day is mine apart from doing the chickens.

they left just after 7am with loaded up car (again) and daughter driving. Just a glass of water each, she doesn't eat breakfast anyway but he does usually. They will stop on the way I am sure. Seems very quiet now after a week of three of us. shan't see them until July now.

Good morning, up early as daughter will be off soon. dry and a bit misty at the moment.
Mel you asked what I bought. Nemesia (3), a prostrate Rosemary, a cue as the other one is not growing very well, a Thyme, a mixed pot of calibrochoa. and a verbena may be something else but I think that was all.

Its good to know you are being missed though Ann.

What a todo with your sons shopping order. You'd htink after all this time they would have got their act together with orders and not get t hem muddled up and you having to spend all that time there when you could have been doing other things.
