Mel Fairy Godmother Report 13 Jun 2021 19:48

Mandy I watched all of Time on Iplayer. It was very violent in parts but still a good story.

Just come in from watering my plants as they have dried out so much over the last two days and I did'nt do it yesterday.

Yes the deer are twins and so sweet in their spotted jackets. I think I took about 65 pitures of them but I did miss them in some of them by the time I had the camera zoomed in they had moved.

Evening all ,

Phew it's a hot one today, we sat out this morning under the gazebo when family came it was lovely and cool then but it's been far to hot this afternoon to sit out .

Oh Vera your poor feet and ankles ,you need some flip flops but they are no good for walking to far ,I keep trying to think what those sandals were called that were wooden soles with leather tops they had those adjustable tops ,had them back In the seventies boy did they give me blisters .
I suppose all this heat doesn't help the swelling either, I hope it soon goes down so you can walk a bit easier.

Oh Mel what little Deers they are but naughty little deers ,they look like

twins .

Time on tonight I think you said you were watching it Mel ,it's a bit violent at times but I find i want to keep watching I suppose all that sort of thing does go on in prison.

Hope we hear how things are going at Gills, perhaps she's still in the bath enjoying all the warm water :-D

I know but it makes my blood boil when they eat my plants. This is whats puts me off of doing my border in past years. I just give up and the weeds take over and the flowers disappear down thier gullets. If thats not enough they tell thier mates and they all come in too.

Yes the mower is working fine now. Oh has planted all his sunflowers I soed for him up against the west wall and put netting round them and then he has been cutting down the Exochorda on the corner of the west lawn as he had trouble getting the mower past it as it got so wide.

Still getting broken eggs. Think I may isolate Mona and see what happens but the eggs that are eaten still have softish shells.

I did see the film that was called Daddy long legs Vera, I thunk it had Fred Astaire in it.

Annx I always have cravendale because it does come with a long date.

I envy you your delivered lunch, hope you enjoy it, although I have to say it would be too hot for me to eat a cooked lunch at the moment.

I picked a load of rhubarb yesterday and gave it to Cynth next door, she gave me a small lettuce.

Enjoy your lunch Ann. I am about to go and start cooking ours now but a slightly lighter one than our usual big Sunday roast.

I got it wrong. The musical I mentioned wasn't called Daddy-Long-Legs though it was based on a book/play of that name. It was called Love From Judy and was on in London in 1952 so I would have been 10. I had definitely left Brownies and gone up to the Girl Guides but I was a year younger than all my classmates at school so maybe I went up to Guides a year early too.

Morning All,

Yes it's hot here too. I just gave some pots another top up of water as they were dry already. We are on a water meter too AnnG and are mindful like you say! We have 5 waterbutts behind the shed and greenhouse so use those as much as we can, but it gets a bit much keep carrying watering cans from them when the whole garden needs a soak.

I get swollen ankles too Vera, particularly later in the day like AnnG. My knees have some swelling from my knee osteoarthritis and I'm not sure if that has a knock on effect for my ankles. They say exercise helps so well done getting a short walk in. It is hard trying to keep your feet up as you say. I suppose if we could lie on the floor with our legs up the wall to read a book it would be ideal, but I'd have trouble getting up again!! :-D

Mel you will need your gongalongs today if you go out up the border! Is Mona still breaking eggs? Is the repaired mower working ok?

We had a nice lie in for a while this morning. I cleaned the hob and cooker hood and have some rhubarb simmering now. I want to use up some longlife milk that is near it's dates for custard to go with it. I tend to go by the smell of milk rather than the dates. Cravendale milk is a bit pricier but has much longer dates than the regular supermarket milk.

Lunch will be delivered soon. How nice it is to have a day off!

Waiting for lunch to

Snap. We all posted about the same time.

AnnG, I have 2 pairs of trainers, various slip on shoes, a pair of Clarks canvas shoes, various sandals and 2 pairs of "posh" shoes. I can put 2 of the pairs of sandals on but they have velcro fastenings which are stretched to their limit and keep coming undone as I walk.

I expect you are thinking about your Mum today, Mel. <3

One of my granddaughters was 21 yesterday. She had her big "coming-of-age" presents at 18 but it still seemed a bit of a special day. We had a lovely text from her in the morning thanking us for our gift and saying how much she loved and missed us. Made me feel a bit tearful in a nice way.

You were talking about musicals yesterday. I love musicals and theatre generally - I come from quite a theatrical family going right back to 4 x great grandfather who was an actor in the first half of the 19th century. I don't think I have a favourite musical as I enjoy them all if they are well produced. I do like a lot of the modern ones - one favourite is Rent but that would definitely not be to everyone's taste.

Here's a childhood memory. The first West End musical I saw was Daddy-Long-Legs. Anyone remember that one? I think I was 10 or 11 or maybe a bit older. I was in the Girl Guides and a Guide Leader was a musicals fan and occasionally took a group of us to the local town hall when there was a musical on there. They were mostly the old-fashioned operetta type. On this occasion she took us to the West End. It was wonderful.

I have not tried it Vera but I wonder if ice packs would bring the swelling down. I find mine are fine in the morning and for a few hours after I get up but swell up late afternoon. Have you tried trainers? Nobody bothers these days and I mainly wear trainers all the time.

have given the hand rail two coats this morning. If it needs another one it can wait until another day, it is 22 degrees out there now too hot for standing in full sun painting. It looks ok but the colour is a bit too light really, maybe it will look a different colour when the sun is not so bright. When I got the paint I really wanted sage but I couldn't find any paint. As often happens the paint is not the same as on the outside of the tin.
