Island Report 22 Jul 2021 11:17

Morning all - where did the last three hours go I wonder? :-S

James phoned this morning. I said 'hello James, how's the weather in Bangladesh?' - I knew he was in Bangladesh because I checked him out last time he rang.
I strung him along for a bit then said 'Just a moment I'll hand you over to my supervisor'. My fella loves these calls so I handed the phone to him "hello"...... 'nobody there' :-S :-D

Crikey Vera, you were lucky with your puncture, it must have been a slow one. I seem to remember my fella finding a nail in a tyre after it kept slowly going down.

Anng It sounds like you are having some well deserved fuss with the relaxing facial and trips out. Enjoy!

Mel, I never do any ironing except when sewing to press seams open and to fuse interfacing. I ironed a shirt for my fella just once, years ago but only because he was in a hurry. Never again! much too large. I had to do ironing when I worked in theatre but I was being paid for it. Otherwise I do the 'body ironing' method

It's 26c here at the moment so another day indoors I think. It's lovely to enjoy evenings in the garden though.

It's taken me about 45mins to type this - distractions. I've just remembered where the 3 hours went - dealing with sciatica! It's been stabbing me soon after getting up for 2/3 weeks now, it's very spiteful but does wear off quite soon.
I'd better post this....

:-D

Morning Anng and all.

Not as sunny here this mroning but I suppose there's stilltime for it to get really hot. I hope its cooler today though as it has been a bit unbearable.

Only a hair wash planned for today so far and a bit of cleaning and I have quite a lot of ironing to do so if it stay cooler that may get done. Then find something for dinner tonight and soon it will be Friday AGAIN. I just don't know where these weeks are going lately.

Enjoy your ride to Siloth this morning Anng and I hope your taking lots of pictures for us to see when you get home.

Hope Vera slept better last night and everyone else. I thought I would lie awake last night but I must have floated off to sleep the minuet my head hit the pillow.

AnninGlos Report 22 Jul 2021 07:34

Good morning all, sunny so far, think it is forecast all day. Just seen in Glos Live that a heatwave is forecast first two weeks of August.

That could have been nasty Vera, good job you only had a short journey to get home with the tyre, I bet the steering felt strange?

I think we are driving up the coast to Siloth this morning, then this afternoon/evening we have J’s two daughters and partner of one coming for a meal as younger girl now at her Mums and wants to see me before I go home.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 21 Jul 2021 17:16

It sounds as though you have had a lovely day AnnG.

Driving the short distance to town this morning I thought the car felt “wrong” and when I parked I noticed the near side rear tyre was quite flat. When it was time to go home I decided it had enough air in it but I drove very carefully! OH had a look and sometime recently we had picked up a very large nail. So after lunch OH pumped it up enough to drive it and we took it to the tyre place and came out £99 lighter, an expense we could have done without this week.

It was lovely getting my feet seen to and there has been no easing of restrictions at the chiropodists. Temperatures still taken, masks worn and staff opening doors with special wipes. After that I traipsed round all the chemists in town to find one that had some rapid Covid test kits in stock. Most places had run out but I eventually got 2. With one or two things lined up with other people now I felt it only fair to others that we should be sure we’re still negative.

We are setting up the new bank account with a bank that we already have an account with and as we do online banking anyway I could use my password etc to do it online. It was fine and we got a confirmation email to say we would hear from them in a few days. But I am spitting feathers :-|. Why, when I set the account up with my online special passwords and they only currently have my email address, did the confirmation come on my email but addressed to OH? It’s the curse of the invisible woman again and it makes me so angry.

Rant over. I’ve calmed down again now :-)

The facial was wonderful. 75 minutes of relaxing in wonderful perfumes. She was excellent at the job too and my skin feels lovely and soft which includes my arms shoulders and hands. She did give me a little booklet with the name of the creams etc as they sell them in reception. (Of course they do), But, as the prices vary between, £25 pounds and £90 per pot, I think not. Still it was a lovely birthday present.

SiL has gone to Penrith to pick up younger daughter off the train, after the leisure club daughter and I went to a store on the outskirts of Cockermouth for lunch which for me was jacket potato and prawns Marie rose with salad. I really enjoyed that as well.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Jul 2021 11:20

Morning all,

Late on parade this morning. I have been looking for my other pair of gongalongs and do you think I could find them? No the fairies have whisked them away and the navy pair are inthe wash still inthis weather they won't take long to dry.

Love the "computer says no". I hav'nt given my bank my mobile so I don't have problems with that. Just said I had'nt got one.

Island its so sad when an old friend has to be taken down to be replaced by a new one you have to get to know but I am sure you'll soon get used to the new one in time. Oh burnt my old shed which was really mums made out of a chicken house but my new one is so lovely and buil;t just how I wanted it except he did'nt leave me a tall space but put the back shelves right along which did'nt give me space to store tools so they are in front of the shelves in a big tub.

Island

Island Report 21 Jul 2021 10:27

Morning all

It's overcast and cooler here - at the moment! We could have done with this yesterday.
We had to empty my shed at a days notice which would have been ok - I had done all the sorting in readiness - but with thunder and showers forecast we were on a beat the wet mission. We paced ourselves but would rather have done it in the evening when it was a tad cooler. Demolition is going on as I type.

Annx, your painting is very good, I see a 'you' style developing. I'm with a FB machine embroidery group, some would snap up your latest especially to make stitched pictures.

Anng, an aromatherapy facial sounds fab. I think we'd all like to join you :-D

Vera, moan away :-D it's the weather for it.
I think banking has become such a hassle partly because they want us to do it online and it has attracted a lot of criminals, but they could make it easier for the customers by having real people with clear voices to speak to.
My problem was trying to access my account without using my mobile - I have poor reception so by the time I've found a signal I'm timed out. I had used my card reader previously with no problem but for reasons unknown to me, my account had reverted to p/word by text. Noggin at the other end seemed to glaze over re my phone - "computer says no".
Sorry, that probably makes no sense!

I keep seeing pieces of shed going through the side gate :-(

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 21 Jul 2021 08:27

Good morning

I feel like a wet rag this morning after another lousy night. I think I’ve forgotten how to sleep :-(. That’s enough moaning....

The thunder went on for a long while yesterday and after it stopped we had a couple of heavy downpours which did cool the air a bit for a little while but it was very humid again by bedtime. Today it’s supposed to get to 27 degrees with more thunder this afternoon. I hope you can all manage to keep cool.

Your ring sounds lovely AnnG. It will be a very special keepsake for you.

Your window man was right about the cement being in short supply Ann. OH wanted just 3 bags recently and had to get 1 bag one day and 2 bags on another day. We only had a small job to do and, if necessary, it could have waited but it must be really difficult for builders.

Why is banking (and practically anything else) such a hassle these days? There’s Ann needing to switch accounts, then our problems and now Island having a game of soldiers with her bank. The bank we are having problems with are phoning this morning to get us to set up another account with them. They are going to be disappointed as we are not going to use them at all anymore. We are setting up a different account at another bank. We can’t close the first account yet as our state pensions get paid into it and we need to keep it open until I am sure the pensions are getting to the right account. Do you ever feel we do the bankers’ work for them?

I am off to the chiropodist this morning, my first visit for nearly a year. OH has been hacking at my nails for me but they need some proper attention now.

I got up at 7 am and brought a cup of tea back to bed with me but it’s about time I got moving. Have a good day everyone.

EDIT. Missed you there AnnG as it took me 3 attempts to post. I kept getting the error message. Enjoy your birthday treat.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Jul 2021 07:51

Good morning all, still sunny but forecast was for it to cloud over later. Mixed feelings about that, the heat does get a bit much but once the sun goes it often doesn’t come back for days.
Today daughter has booked an early birthday present for me. An aromatherapy facial. It is at the leisure centre in the upmarket hotel we had our diamond wedding cream tea last year so a few mixed feelings and a long time since I had a facial so it will be interesting, and I hope, relaxing. They are members there so will go swimming.

Annx

Annx Report 20 Jul 2021 20:14

I'm glad you liked the picture. There's plenty I haven't tried to paint yet Mandy, but I do enjoy doing trees! That detail takes a while to do AnnG so it was good your daughter noticed! OH has needed a new battery for his watch for weeks now and I would have ordered him one, but his tiny screwdrivers for your glasses, aren't small enough to get the back off, so it's waiting for now. He feels a lot better now thanks. He had a headache and like Vera said I think it is the oppressive weather causing us to feel unwell.

My laptop says 'rain is coming' at the bottom Vera and we sure need it. I hope your bad head eases with some rain to clear the air. We just had a bought chicken pasta salad today and I just served me half of mine with a boiled egg and tomato added.

The window man was saying this morning how hard it is to get materials and that some places are rationing eg cement so he has had to send his partner seperately as well so between them they can get enough to do a job. He said big companies are being prioritised, but smaller companies are suffering and will be the ones that can't keep trading.

So you were at the mercy of bank procedures today Island! I must do my bank switch this week, I keep putting it off.....I wonder why. I noticed a new extra hoop to jump through when I did a transfer today. I planted dwarf french beans in July last year and had plenty of beans off them so give yours a go.

Time to go and sit outside I think to cool down. Haircut tomorrow if the hairdressers eye is ok and hopefully it will be a couple of degrees cooler. The thought of sitting covered in a polythene cape and mask in this heat doesn't appeal.

Evening all,

Phew phew phew so jot and the last hour or so we've had thunder and huge spots of rain but not enough to really wet the ground.

I want to say wow to Ann's painting too isn't she just brilliant, I don't think there's anything she can't paint but I have to say I love her trees .
Ann that was handy getting the vent done on the window saves him coming back again.
Hope OH is feeling better this heat does get to you.
Thanks again for letting me know which thread you use ,son said its been dispatched so hopefully it might be here tomorrow.

Vera hope your poor head soon feels better ,we need a good storm to clear the air.

Mel I keep meaning to ask how your pond is now has it cleared .

Nice to see you popping in Frank ,hope you managed to enjoy lunch and that you got your haircut .

Island thats a good idea to put some more of the beans in to follow on ,do you think its to late to put some more dwarf ones in to follow on ,we've had four pickings from them and two lots of runners there was so many yesterday that I took my sister some .

The car has passed its MOT every year we think I wonder if it will pass ,we had only done just over eight hundred miles this year .

Gill it sounds as if your still busy in the garden ,why ever don't you have a skip for the garden rubbish you'd get no end in a skip and it would save your poor OH having to do all these trips to the tip it must cost a fortune in petrol .
Sounds as if Sandra is getting settled in her new place is the boyfriend with her .

Anng thats good you've found a nice ring you like some of these little antique shops have some lovey things I'm sure T would be pleased you've found one .

Brightened up again so we might be able to sit out and cool off this evening .

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 20 Jul 2021 18:20

O silly me of course it was Anng's friends in the painting but the one on the right did look like Anng. Oh thought it was great too.

Just come in from sitting by my pond witha nice G & T but its still very hot out there.

I got on well this morning with two lots of washing done and the frist lot dry when the bedding went out. Hoovered up all the spiders in the hall and hoovered the kitchen and diner. Walked up to the crossroads as Steph from the surgery said she would drop our scripts off about 4.30pm the 20 to 5. Sat up at the crossraods and there was a lovely breeze up there and I was in the shade. YUes I actually got throught to the surgery this morning and spoke to someone!! Marvels will never cease! :-D

Filled up oh's boxes for the week with his pills and now I only have to do mine.

watered all the patio plants this morning too and the blueberry bushes, beans and strawberries. Don't think I have done bad today as I did'nt get much done yesterday.

Pasta for dinner tonight as our chinese chicken bbq stuff was unavailable so thats nice and easy.

Its lovely you have found the ring you wanted Anng and I am sure T is looking down feeling pleased you have found one you like at last. Sound slike you had another lovely day with the family and you've had some really nice weather for it.

Poor Vera I hope the head eases soon and you can get some sleep tonight sounds like you have a really bad one there. Think we may be due for a little rain on Friday.

AnninGlos Report 20 Jul 2021 16:55

Good afternoon all. I have already sai this to Ann but that is an excellent painting. I showed it to daughter and she was amazed in the detail in the grass and trees besides the figures. Well done.

Frank I hope the haircut made you feel better and that you and Ros had a lovely lunch.

Are you confident that if you book Spain for September, you won’t have to quarantine when you come back? With the speed that things change?

Mel, yes T and I were content being hermits together, but it is not much fun when you live alone. I am pleased I had some local friends to stay in touch with.
Annx sorry you’re oh is under the weather, hope he feels better soon.

Island hope you soon get a storm so that it becomes less oppressive for you.

Vera oh dear, I hope you too get a decent storm to relieve you of your headache.

We went into Cockermouth this morning as my watch battery went and the watch being a vivofit I had to find someone who could fix it. Luckily a watch mender in a jewellers was able to replace the two batteries so it is ok now
I have also been waiting to buy the ring that T promised me for our diamond wedding. I wanted one from an antique shop and this morning I found one I like. It is nine tiny chip diamonds in a diamond shape on a slim nine carrot gold band. I am very pleased with it.
We then picked up step granddaughter who lives in Cockermouth and went to lunch. Tables all two metres apart staff and customers walking around all wearing masks and tables sterilised between customers. They can’t do any more. I had scampi chips and peas and it was very nice.
In Cockermouth there were polite notices on all the little shops we went in asking us to wear masks. I didn’t see anyone without a mask.

Dropped R off and came home to sit in the garden but it got too hot so I am indoors in the cool now.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 20 Jul 2021 16:21

That is a superb picture Ann. You just keep getting better and better.

I wonder why Asda don’t have lamb shanks very often. I have no trouble getting them from Tesco or Sainsbury’s.

I’m glad you had a nice time with your step granddaughter AnnG and the weather has been kind to you this time, probably a bit too hot but better than the rain you often get in the Lakes.

Good to hear from you Frank. I hope you enjoyed your lunch. So far we have only once had a cup of tea in a garden centre but I am hoping we might venture out for lunch before too long. Even then we’ll pick somewhere with lots of space. I think most of us are suffering with the heat now. I’m not sleeping much and have had a bad head and upset tum today that I think are due to the heat.

We’ve had a lot of thunder here over the last 2 hours but only a few spits and spots of rain. All that the thunder seems to have done is make the air feel even heavier and make my head feel as though ir’s in a vice and someone is tightening it.

Can’t face much cooking tonight so I’m going to make a tuna and sweet corn mixture and pile it on a jacket potato and have a bit of salad with it.

Keep cool everyone

Annx

Annx Report 20 Jul 2021 15:07

No Mel, AnnG took the photo of her two friends she went with. :-)

We got less subs last time and after about 2 months I actually got some lamb shanks!

Annx

Annx Report 20 Jul 2021 15:06

Afternoon All,

Another hot day!

The window man arrived at 7.30am and had finished by 9.00am so that was quicker than we expected. He put the ventilator off the old window on the ensuite window as that was broken, so that's another job done.

Good to hear from you Frank! I know this heat is getting to us too and we have no energy to do much other than keep plants watered and find something to eat. A haircut will help you feel cooler and I hope you have a nice meal afterwards.

Island we opened the patio door wide when it was cooler last night and other doors through the bungalow to the small windows open at the front and got a nice cool breeze flowing through while we sat outside to cool off ourselves. OH hasn't felt great today so is having a lie down. He gets hotter than me now those horrid hot flushes have ended at last.

What a game getting your pills Mel. I haven't bothered ordering ours online yet, we just drop the scripts in the surgerv letterbox, but I've thought it's about time we did. You never trust these things to work ok though do you.

We were up at 6.00am AnnG! I did take a while to drop off to sleep but still had a good night. It must have been nice to see your step grandaughter. Hope you have a nice lunch today. I keep meaning to ask how big Millie is now? Can we see a photo please? :-)

I put some lemonade in the fridge earlier so will go and get some now.

Island Wow was to Ann's painting. You can see thats Anng in her picture.

Thermo says its 28 degrees indoors. Goodness knows what its like outdoors as its cooler in than out.

Fancy asda sending me a prawn cocktail instead of a big pack of king prawns. There's not enough in a cocktail to feed a cat let alone a big man. I don't eat them so its just as well. He may just get a sandwich out of it.
