Afternoon All,
Sunny and a short shower up to now today as forecast. OH said he can't be bothered with a footie match today as there are ones he wants to watch on tv. I was hoping to pull the settees out to hoover while he was out so that's for another day now!
Phew I would rest up a bit today Vera! It has been quite a saga getting your OH sorted but at least they will do the blood tests all at once and save extra trips. Will he have any left by the time they have done? I hope he's a bit better today. Your afternoon tea sounded lovely and tasty. I bet it did seem strange going in your brother's house without him there and a trip down memory lane with the things you took with you that were your father's.
Yes those temperatures in some european countries would be so unbearable wouldn't they. I hope some have aircon in their houses. I was thinking how it would be at the age of hot flushes!!! Thank goodness they stopped eventually.
Arthur seems to be visiting most of us now Mel, I get sciatica sometimes and OH has been really bad with it sometimes so he could hardly get out of bed without help. It does take a long time to get better sometimes, but don't aggravate it by overdoing it too soon or you can end up back to square one. It is good to keep moving about though, just pottering helps stop it siezing up. I hope the extra painkillers help today.
Yes FRANK, do pop in so we know if you are both ok!
I have to finalise the food order, order some clay for a course and will start sketching a painting I think.

Morning Mel and all
Sunny spells and cloud here this morning. It’s a bit breezy but it’s dry and a pleasant temperature. Think of those poor souls in some of the Mediterranean countries with temperatures in the upper 40s. It makes me glad to be living here.
Safe journey home AnnG.
I hope your stronger pain killers are beginning to kick in now Mel. Take care.
OH had his call from the doctor quite early this morning. This doctor is also ordering a load of blood tests but OH can get them done at the same time as the ones the other doctor ordered. Treatment or further referral will depend on what the tests show up.
Phone ringing. Must go.

Your posts arn't boring Vera we all love to read them. It also seems your hubby and I are in the same position being in terrible pain.
I meant to say it is old Arthur in both my hips so not a lot to be done there. That was the result of the xray Ann. He did'nt tell me anything about my blood test so that should be ok but did say it sounds like I have sciatica and it could be a 6 weeks jobby. ( does that sound bad?) perhaps I should reword that?
Anyway just keep taking the tablets and I hope you all have a better night agian tonight. xx
WHERE'S FRANK??????????????????? Sending love. <3 We all miss you and need to know how you both are.

Good evening everyone
I have at last found half an hour to do a post and it could be a long one as I haven’t posted much lately so you have been warned!
It sounds as though you are having an enjoyable few days with some nice birthday treats AnnG. That afternoon tea at Waddesdon Manor looked tasty and very nicely presented. I think I’ve been to Waddesdon 3 times now. It’s quite a place. One visit was several years ago and I have a vague recollection of being with one of the groups we belong to on a guided tour, but we have been twice in recent years to their Christmas events. The whole house is decorated to a theme and it is quite magical. There are kiosks and stalls outside selling all sorts of stuff and last time we were there I bought my daughter some lovely hand made earrings.
That’s good you have some strong pain relief now Mel. That should help you feel more comfortable. Your walker with the seat sounds a good idea as well.
Ann, your end of your Close is going to look like Blackpool illuminations with all those lights going up! I hadn’t heard of brushing egg white on to cues to help them stay fresh longer, but they never seem to last long in our house anyway. It could be a useful tip of you are growing them and have got a glut.
It doesn’t matter how carefully you pick your courgettes there are always one or two hiding until they are marrow sized Island. I am glad you enjoyed your oversized stuffed courgette. I’m not fond of stuffed marrow so I used to make mine into marrow and ginger jam.
I’m pleased you are feeling a bit better now Mandy. You’ll have a busy day tomorrow with Lewis. They seem to have so much energy at his age. I bet he’ll tire you out; Max as well probably.
For us it has been a somewhat strange week. I had dithered about cancelling our afternoon tea out and our trip to see my brother’s partner but OH insisted he would be fine and wanted to go. Tuesday morning he got up in a lot of pain but it had eased enough by noon so off we went in the afternoon for our tea. It was excellent. Everything was fresh and made on the premises, little sandwiches, sausage rolls, two huge scones with jam and clotted cream and various cakes and shortbreads. There was so much that we didn’t touch the sausage rolls and we shared one scone and only had a small cake each. We were offered a box to take the rest away with us but we declined. Then we went on to say hallo to club members who were having afternoon tea in one of the member’s gardens. It was good to see everyone after so long.
By the time we got home OH was in quite a bit of pain again and the same when he got up Wednesday morning but he insisted on driving to see brother’s partner and driving home again. It was very strange going in the house for the first time without my brother being there but we had a very pleasant day and I brought home some bits and pieces that had been our father’s and had gone to my brother. They will now be passed on to my son.
Yesterday OH got up in so much pain and unable to lift his arms or move his fingers much. He couldn’t even dress himself properly and I had to do up buttons and put his socks on for him which depressed him. I decided enough was enough and made him phone the surgery again. To get an appointment that day you are supposed to ring at 8 am. The trouble is everyone rings at 8 am. Either he got a recorded message saying all the receptionists were busy or he got told where he was in the queue. This was fine except that everytime he got near the top of the queue he got cut off! When he eventually got through all the appointments had been allocated. However this receptionist was sympathetic and helpful and said that she would personally ask a doctor to ring him within a couple of hours.
Doc rang and after a long chat said she thought it could be a sudden onset of rheumatoid arthritis. For the time being she has given him a stronger anti-inflammatory drug than the one he was taking and said he should take paracetamol as well. He has to have a blood test next Friday and I won’t bore you with the story of trying to get that booked. It was quite a saga. He still has another medical problem that is unresolved but the doctor had patients waiting so she said he should still leave in place the booking for a telephone consultation on Saturday and discuss this other problem with whichever doctor rings then.
With being out 2 days this week and OH not able to do much I have spent the last 2 days exhausting myself with cooking, cleaning, dealing with a food delivery, washing, ironing, gardening, cleaning the bird bath and so on and on and on. And that’s the story of our week.
Now that I have bored you silly with this long post, I’ll wish you all a good night and sweet dreams.

They were all welcome presents then AnnG. Breakfast sounded interesting with the American pancakes......not sure I would like the bacon with syrup! I hope you find some things to buy in Dobbies and that you have a nice meal tonight. What colour did you get your nails done.....I meant to ask before?
Mandy you will be busy tomorrow then with young Lewis. What is he interested in now? I can't imagine him wanting to learn to make bracelets. I still think of the bin lorry cake when I think of him! lol. :-)
Mel that sounds like serious pain relief. I hope it helps. Did you get the results of your x-ray in the end? The doc should have been able to tell you. It's good you could get your scripts and save another journey.
We managed to get to the farm shop just as they opened today, but as I thought with it being Friday, a few people were arriving as we left. I wish OH didn't chatter so and wasn't always so impatient in shops though. You end up either forgetting something or not spotting something you didn't know you wanted! :-D
The yarn bombing has started being put up in the village on the way. As the Victory Air Show is going ahead in the village this year that seems to be their theme this time and there was a yarn parachutist hanging in a tree. We passed the house where my first boyfriend lives in his parents' old house with his wife and he was outside putting up a big model old plane in the front garden. I haven't seen him for over 40 years and I'm sure I would have passed him in the street without recognising him. We've both changed so much! There was even a yarn cow outside the farm shop.
I must try and start another painting or something as it gets a bit tedious sorting bills, washing , meals and the next job....the food order!

A doctor rang me this morning and he has given me paracetamol and codine tables. The packet was huge and also he gave me powders to take if the codine make me bind up. They are orange lemon and lime flavoured. I also picked up both our scripts as I had to go and get the others. That was good otherwise I would have had to wait untill next Tues to get our usual meds.
Hope Anng's having a great day.
Vera did you get some sleep last night?
What's Island been up to today?

Yes it is hard with the important person missing. But I have been and am being spoilt. Afternoon tea yesterday was lovely and breakfast this morning of American pancakes with bacon and syrup was very nice and a pub meal booked for this evening. I have some cards here and the rest at home for tomorrow. Daughter’s present was the facial I had when up there, son’s present was taking me to Hobbycraft and letting me buy what I wanted, so I stocked up on Christmas craft bits. And the manicure of course. Sister’s present is in the bank so no presents to unwrap this year.
Going to Dobbies this afternoon so may spend my birthday money then.
Thank you for birthday wishes.

<3 Happy birthday AnnG <3 It's looks like you were treated like royalty with that beautiful lunch yesterday. Funnily enough that quote came up yesterday on a FB veg growers group which I belong to. :-D
Mel, it's not my plan to make green tomato chutney but if blight strikes those toms will be whipped off the plants, ripe or not. It's a bit concerning.
Have a good day all

Your birthday treat looked very good Anng and I am sure you enjoyed every bit of it.
It seems to me that if I take the pills after eating they don't work. I took some more after going up the hsop for some fresh ones and they worked ok.

Ann yes sorry Wadesdon Manor, built by the Rothschild family. An interesting and slightly bonkers building. Every time you look you see something else odd. We didn’t go in the house, left that to next time. Yes took photos.

Afternoon All,
Well I slept well once I nodded off after 2.30am but we decided to visit the farm shop at opening time tomorrow as we were tired this morning. We had a chicken, bacon and leek pie for lunch with our own courgette and runners and some small sweetcorn and cabbage. We picked some more cues (5) but the plants are still looking flopped and sorry, so if they don't pick up in a few days OH will either cut them right back or hoof them out. I have about a dozen to eat in the fridge now. I saw a tip on line where someone was brushing egg white onto a whole cue to make it keep longer. Has anyone tried this?
Just been paying all my bills before my bank switch and making notes who to advise. OH is studying the 70 pages of some council work he has to do.
Crikey Mel, Ed's brother is tall isn't he! How is Ed now after that accident? Hopefully fully better. Sorry you are still getting gyp. These things do seem worse as the day wears on but a few minutes sit down can help. Did you get some eggs that weren't broken today?
That sounds like a lovely and interesting meal AnnG. It's the sort of thing that Fitz would have when I went out with him and Jane. Was it Waddesdon Manor you went to? I haven't been there yet but it looks a magnificent old building. I hope you are taking a few photos for us to see! :-D
Island that was a large courgette and I am definately getting Sunflower seed next year!
