Good morning AnnG..... What a wild, wet and windy night !
I didn't sleep too well, but with a new contact on Ancestry, I am trying to sort out the12 DAVIES children born to a family early 1900s in the south Wales valleys. My head was in a spin trying to sort them out, as even the mother's maiden name suggests there was more than one family there with the same combination of surnames. Just to add another dimension, some of those DAVIES married DAVIES in the next generation. Now I remember why I had put that particular line on the back burner and concentrated on easier research.... Not to worry, between us we are getting a few sorted.
It's now trying to brighten, which would be good, as I'm hoping to go for a walk with a friend. It is very mild again. We will need our boots on after all that rain. It will be lovely to see the changing autumn colours before the wild weather strips all the leaves from the trees.
I hope it stays fine for you to walk to your meeting

Morning Anng morning all,
Suns out here and I can see blue sky we had rain in the night and it was raining when I came down about quarter to seven to make a cuppa .
Need to nip out to put my prescription in and just go into tesco to see if they have any of their seeded bread they bake in store l usually buy three or four and freeze but last time I went for some they had a sign up saying they couldn't get the grain and seed mix to make them .
Ann early start for you to get OH car in ,sounds as if your going to be busy going through all your photos I should imagine you have a lot
Anng I hope you can get to your meeting without getting to wet, fingers crossed you can get there between the showers .

good morning all showery out there, hope it dries by 2pm as it is the main u3a meeting this afternoon, no point taking the car as it is a small car park with a lot of people needing to drive and I am only less than ten minutes away (depends how long I have to wait for the pedestrian lights.) Other than that no plans. slept well last night right through from 11.15 to 6am. All the chatting obviously wore me out. :-D

Evening All,
A dull, but dry day here and cooler. I could have washed towels if I'd known it would be dry.
Thanks Mandy, that's another prog for me to record as well!. I was ondering this morning if Strike will be back this autumn. Yes it is good your son gets included in the after school activities. It helps build a team spirit if everyone is included. Oh that's good your new carpet is ordered and will be laid in a couple of weeks. You will be rolling your sleeves up moving the furniture the day before so they can lay it!
I saw Tom West on Love your Weekend on Sunday. He plays Seigfrid in All Creatures. He is so smiley and without the beard and tache I hardly recognised him, but he said there will be at least another series after this.
I see Asda have stopped the recurring slots again from 20th Dec to 2nd Jan so I will have to book a slot just after then once they are available. They have released the Christmas food a week early for those of us with passes, so I have ordered the Turkey Crown, Xmas pud for OH, Frozen sausage rolls, streaky bacon and gammon joint up to now.
Glad you had a nice chat with friends AnnG. It hasn't been the best of days for visiting gardens.
Two out of three is pretty good with your Hostas Vera! He'll be earning a gold star soon! :-D It's a shame you have to miss your grand daughter's graduation, but I expect there will be some photos. It's good she will have both parents there. So often children are the ones that lose out because of parent's conflicts.
Well I love Rocket too! It's nice on a chicken sandwich. Jane couldn't stand it and would pick it all out of her salad when we went for a meal with Fitz. I find Spinach a bit chewy in a salad but I put it in hot meals. What I can't stand is Coriander and they put it in so many meals these days so I have to read the labels. I have learned in the last few years that some of us have a genetic difference that makes it taste like soap.....yes really! :-( Imagine eating something sprinkled with washing up liquid dressing.......it really is that bad!
We have to be at the garage in the city by 8.00am tomorrow so a very early start. Two alarm clocks set I think. OH's low tyre pressure guage is flashing all the time despite him blowing them up and he is getting his aircon fixed at the same time. They only work mornings now so hence the early start.
I have got fed up with not being able to find old photos so I am copying all of them to the computer and sorting them into labelled files at the same time. It will take some time, but save time once it's done.
It's good to get everything wiped and put away Mel. I must admit I expected more subs last time, but there were less than usual.
Yes it seems ages since we heard from Frank and Gill should hopefully have some progress to report.

Thanks Mandy. Its so nice the school include your son in their outings and little treats. He does a lot for them all and it is obviously appreciated. Lovely.... A nice new room all ready for Christmas then that'll be lovely.
Had a little play tis afternoon but not finished anything and started something else too. I need to make a few more bits in clay and then I can bake them all together as I don't think its worth doing one or two at a time even though the oven is only on for half an hour after its warmed up.
Brought my washing in as its just as wet as when it went out so it will have to go on the airer.
Sounds like you did a nice lot inthe garden today Vera and as you said two out of three of the hostas is not too bad. What was the colour of the one you would have liked to keep?

We had quite a bit of rain overnight and early this morning but it brightened up by about 11 am and has been a beautiful day, though it is very windy. Our garden is covered in leaves from trees in neighbouring gardens.
I managed to spend a couple of hours outside this afternoon but I am shattered now. I moved some heavy pots from one part of the garden to another, planted up the rest of the violas that we bought, cleared another trough of mini aster plants that had been there for about 7 years and were well rooted and tangled up, dug up a small rosemary bush that I don't want and which I think was dying anyway and had a general tidy up. I also checked on the hostas to see what OH had taken up. He got 2 right but I would have kept the third one he took up. Still, 2 out of 3's not bad.
Last night's AGM went well. When it came to Any Other Business I suggested that we consider moving our annual dinner from early January to sometime in the spring. My reason was that we often have to try to get to wherever we are going when it is foggy or icy and it would be more pleasant in better weather. Also of course it gives us a few more months to get over any winter Covid or flu peak. It was put to the vote and I was surprised that at least three quarters of the members agreed with me.
Which room is your carpet for Mandy and what colour? We want all the details, you know what a nosy lot we are, lol. It is lovely that your son is included in staff events but you know what they say - "You reap what you sow". They're good to him because he's good to them.
Mel, I really like rocket and have it all the time but I'm not keen on baby spinach leaves because I find they are often tasteless. I think a lot of green salad stuff is picked before it has time to develop any flavour. It would be a funny world if we all thought the same.
Eldest granddaughter is in Cambridge now for her graduation ceremony at 6 pm. It has been delayed since July 2020. I would love to be there but of course tickets are limited and she could only have 2 people. Still it's good her mum (my daughter) and dad will both be there. They are divorced but thankfully things are very civilised, and they are both very supportive of their two children.
I hope Frank is OK. It seems quite a while since he popped in and I expect we all miss him. Perhaps as the only man he feels outnumbered. I expect Gill is busy trying to sort her house out before the winter but it would also be good to hear how she and Sandra are getting on.

Yes it is nice they include him Anng The carpet is a Mid grey with a lighter fleck in it we would have liked a lighter one but with Max being black it would really show up all his hair .
Clouded up here now after some lovely sunshine quite blowy but not at all cold still 19 degrees.

Mandy, I am sure it works both ways, he is obviously well liked and is happy to help out as I am sure that is voluntary work. He is definitely more than a caretaker. But it is nice how they include him.
What colour is your carpet?

19 degrees here now its a really lovely autumn day the wind has got up and there's a lot of leaves coming off the trees .
Mel the Chateau is Sunday on 4 at eight .
We watched the Matt Baker programme last night as we really enjoyed the last lot .
Well the carpet is ordered and they will come to lay it in about two weeks ,got the shopping done and put away and we've just had lunch.
I meant to say that son has gone on a school trip to help with the Littleones he will have 6 to look after they are going to see Dippy the Dynasaur in Norwich Cathedral. Then when they get back all the teachers and son are having Pizzas round the firepit I think its lovely they include him in any after school things .

This was with the garden visits group U3a. In the end we all went for coffee to the local garden centre which was absolutely packed by the time our lot found tables. Everyone wearing masks when moving around order at the til and brought to your table and tables very well spaced out. Only four on our table Just there about one and a half hours came home for lunch. next month it will be at a bigger garden centre further away but still in Glos.

Mandy I saw that advertised too and thought I would give it a go.
When did you say the Chateau program was on as I could'nt find it in my paper.
I wanted to see Matt Baker last night on More 4 but when I went to the page on catch up they had something else on at 9pm.Hoping its on tonight on there. I also tried The Trick but could,nt get into it so that a biit of the way through if I want to go back to it. I only tried it because I like two of the actors in it that used to be in Larkrise to Candleford, the postman and one of the sister from the dress shop was his wife in this new prog.
17 degrees here and I am awaiting the shopping.
Have a nice day out Anng whatever you both decide to do. Are you going with Cynth? or someone else?

ERROEO PAGE THREE TIMES SO AM REYING THIS.
Morning all,
Windy dull dreary, damp wet, miserable what more can I say?
4 subs this morning on the shopping three acceptabe and one not for me but oh says he'll have it. Its a bistro salad and I think it has rocket in it and I HATE rocket. It tastes musty and dusty to me so he wil have to eat it all, They sent it instead of baby spinach which I cook anyway and use some in sandwiches.
Anyway enough of my prolems so perhaps if I post this I can see what you have posted this morning.

Ann yes, good to get it over, hopefully no more dentist until April.
Mandy, Skinny as far as I know, lives with one other cat (was two but they lost one) and children but have no idea what age. He has somebody else who feeds him, I don’t know who but he is a bit of a free spirit, a wanderer, goes home sometimes.

Evening All,
It's been dull all day here, but with a bit of a blow the washing was mostly dry by lunchtime and then it started spitting with rain. We were watching the Wood Pigeons in the field and they were all at the top of the hedge. We have noticed they sit up there when it pours with rain to get a nice shower and then they preen themselves for ages after. OH said it was an omen seeing them up there!
I'm glad your root planing is done now AnnG. I'm so glad I don't have to have it now as it isn't pleasant. Sounds like Skinny is hoping to move in with you!
Terry who played Happy Birthday for me a couple of years ago has brought out a CD of some of the Hymns he plays on Sundays so I've ordered one. :-) OH has been working and I have had a lazy day! :-) I have managed to trace an old neighbour's daughter friend from my teens on FB. I have messaged her because I've always regretted not getting a copy of a photo she took of me on my pony outside her parents' house in the 60s!! She was delighted to be in touch again and is going to have a search. She's also contacted her 94 year old mum who lives on her own in the village that does the yarn bombs and she is also going to go through her photos too in case she has it, Fingers crossed I might be lucky! :-)
Mel I abandoned one picture as I wasn't happy and the second is not much better! lol. I'll persevere with it tomorrow, but might give up. Big brushes, playing with the paint isn't really what I like! Your mushrooms are coming along I see which is good.
Vera I would be the same if I asked my OH to do that in the garden. He would either completely dig out what I have been nurturing and leave what is getting rampant, or dig something up that's a different plant altogether! You did well with your food order this time then.
Thanks for mentioning The new Chateau Mandy! I see you got washing dry too.

Yes I hope you hav'nt lost the best Hostas either.
It has rained that fine rain all day and its been quite dark too. I have had a little play with my clay and done some painting and have the first coat of varnish on some of the taodstools I made the other day.
Wonder how Ann got on with her painting yesterday? It was textures was'nt it?
Going to do a toady in the old holey tonight with roastys and cabbage.
