SuffolkVera Report 22 Oct 2021 17:51

It was a beautiful morning but gosh, that wind was cold. I went into town and got a couple of household bits I wanted, found a birthday present for another friend and got a new passport photo sorted. As I was walking back to the car park I could see a lady sitting on a chair outside a shop with an assistant next to her on the phone. It looked as though she had fallen and really bashed her face about. Poor lady. As I was still walking along an ambulance arrived so it must have come very quickly, probably because she would have banged her head. It happened in the same spot where my neighbour fell and broke her arm recently. The Council are supposed to have done repairs there but I think they may just have levelled the paving stone my neighbour tripped on and ignored the rest of the uneven pavers.

This afternoon I've prepared tonight's dinner, cleaned bird feeders and put fresh ones up, made several pots of apple sauce for the freezer, caught up with some filing, and put away everything OH has had out and not put away. In fact, I am keeping out of his way. I don't want to lose my temper but he is being a real pain in the proverbial today.

I'm in a bit of a grumpy mood today but your story made me laugh Island, and when I saw your sculpture I wondered if you'd ever met my Dad :-D Perhaps he modelled for you without his teeth in! The nose is definitely him. I bet it was great fun in those classes.

Well, I suppose I'd better go and start cooking the dinner and if OH says anything out of place about it, there may be a divorce.

Island I felt a bit 'off' in the ight around 2am but couldn't work out what I felt or why, it was really weird but when I eventually woke again around 0630 I was ok so maybe I was just tired or had indigestion. Hope you feel well enough to have the flu jab.

Ann I can empathise with Anita Dobson. I was definately a grump (although only on my own, kept it to myself, when I had to change catheters etc. even though you feel desperately sorry for the person suffering and wish you could make them better, it is hard to be sole carer. I feel very sorry and full of admiration for those who act as carers for years on end.

I missed you there Annx. I save all those bits of practice papers, you never know when you want to do a bit of collage or fancy up a sketchbook cover. I love that your oh can see images in them - some people waste good money on drugs for those images :-0

must get gone....

Island Report 22 Oct 2021 10:25

Morning all :-D

AnnG, I looked in at about 7am, not a soul in sight. Where have the late night posters gone? Seven is a bit early for me but I was up at 6.30 feeling ill so came downstairs to sit up on the sofa with feet up. Feeling better now but a bit weedy.
Flu jab in an hour.

Mel, I've been busy with a change round in my craft room. Haven't been in the mood to make anything as my mind has been occupied with a right old palavar with meds and now next jab - it's a long annoying story. I think I'll stay home wearing one of those deep sea divers outfits :-|

Annx Report 22 Oct 2021 10:22

Morning All,

Slept well and bright sunshine here now although it is cold outside. I've risked putting the washer on so I hope rain doesn't come later.

Ha ha, I didn't know I painted subconscious 'creatures' in my painting. It's funny though as I use offcuts of my paper I use to test the colours and effects I want to use, which OH insists on keeping as bookmarks, although I bin them, and he says he can see images in them!!

I hope the girls have saved you an egg Mel. :-) I think one of the most enjoyable tasks I had as a teenager was checking the chicken nestboxes for eggs, the smell of the straw and feeling how warm some still were.

OH has an appeals meeting on Skype just now so I can't make much noise. I need to have a sort round in the fridge and freezers next so there will be room for the Christmas Turkey etc in the Sunday delivery. I might hopefully get some inspiration for lunch today too. :-( I was just reading what Anita Dobsont said about how she felt when her husband Brian May hurt a muscle in his leg, had sciatica and a heart attack and she became a cleaner, cook and carer overnight. She said she was a grump and would mutter to the birds etc and she wondered if it was to become her life at one point. Luckily things are back to normal now and she can work again. I can empathise though as I wonder sometimes, although I don't think I have been a grump!

Brrrr frost Gwyn! Yes wrap up warm if you go out. I'm sticking my fleece on to go to the garage.

Off to the garage now. BBL

8 degrees and bright here but there’s a stiff breeze. I have to go into town later so I think I need to wear a warm jacket.

Really surprised to see light frost on north-facing rooftops this morning.

It was only Wednesday morning that a friend and I couldn't believe how warm it was, when we went for a local walk.!

It's bright sunshine here now, but I'll wrap up warm if I go out.

I forgot the ginger monkey at the top of the page with big ears.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Oct 2021 23:11

In the picture Ann was given there's a lot more than a dog and cat. There's a tiny hedgehog, a green butterfly with a really tiny earth maiden above. A cartoon man with a big nose sitting down with his hands on his knees, there's a groteque face in a hat with tiny eyes and a magicians wand coming out of his hat and beneath him is a tiny bat with a ginger face. There's more too.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 21 Oct 2021 19:42

I hadn’t spotted a dog so had to have another look didn’t I :-). I now see a cat with pricked up ears in Ann’s painting but I am also seeing a dog in the photo (left hand side just above centre). You do set us some puzzles Island lol.

Annx

Annx Report 21 Oct 2021 19:32

I was slow posting so didn't see you Island. Yes I think we have been walking steadily towards a Christmas of some kinds of restrictions again. As the song goes, 'It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas'. (last Christmas!) Better to be sick of it than sick with it though. I can see what you mean about the picture being a painting, but I think the teacher only gives us photos of real images? You are right and I have spotted the dog with his pricked ears! :-D I would never have spotted it if you hadn't said.

Speaking of beasties, OH came out of the shed today with a little bee/wasp nest in his hand. It was like a miniature one with 20-30 egg cells and so intricate.

Annx Report 21 Oct 2021 19:00

Evening All,

A good sleep but an early start to get to the farm shop at opening time. We got some of their nice seeded baps and home cured ham, which we had at teatime, some nice Cox's apples for me and OH had Pink Lady, some more oranges, which were so sweet and juicy last time, pork chops, eggs and other salad and veg. All wiped and put away when we got back.

Thank you for your nice comments about the painting and maybe I am being too hard on myself. I still feel every painting is an adventure into the unknown as to whether it will work out ok or not though! This week's choices are desert scenes which I think I will enjoy.

This morning were discussing OH's failure to be given his booster appointment he'd been told to arrange! Rather than wait a week before phoning again, he decided to ring again as I wondered if the person he spoke to before had got mixed up with the flu jabs. No problem this time and he has an appointment on 12 November now.

AnnG, you are doing well with getting your garden ready for winter, I still have 6 Geraniums to bring in and more pruning and sorting of overgrown plants. OH has his everyday watch out of action as none of our tiny phillips screwdrivers for spectacles fit and he can't get the battery cover off to replace the battery. I think he will have to take it to a jewellers sometime. So, soon you will have gt grandson or daughter no 2! Do they know what it will be? You had a good shopping trip too. I was surprised to hear how buses are getting modern gizmos now and bells you can push while still seated. Not so good the more powerful acceleration and brakes though!

I wonder how they are breaking the eggs Mel, whether they are being pecked or trodden on? It's lucky you found your net before it blew right away. How are the toadstools coming along?

You have been whirring away with the duster and hoover Vera! Visitors or workmen coming spurs me into action but that hasn't happened for a while here. That's good the mower has gone now and I bet the chap would be glad to get a free, nearly new mower too. I bet it was unsettling finding out that your OH had a pancreas issue, but you seem to have a far better surgery than we do and it's good it was explained to you and that it will be monitored with another scan. It's good that his bladder and kidneys are ok.

Mandy it sounds like Mel will soon receive bats from you. Is she getting out her broomstick for Halloween? lol. :-D You-know-who always asks if I need my broomstick dusting at Halloween! :-0 A couple of weeks after allowing my booster jab to be fully effective I am getting someone to measure up for some vertical blinds. We are having blackout ones in the bedrooms and I've already chosen which I want. Our existing wooden ones have some frayed cords now so they really need replacing.

Island Report 21 Oct 2021 17:42

Sunshine all the way today but too chilly for me.

Mel, it seems the net was finding its own way home. Interesting info on chickens, I never knew that, mind, I never needed to lol

Vera, I agree. Living by covid rules is driving me potty. It’s getting more like a master race plan every day. It’s spreading because people, rightly or wrongly, have had enough.
I hope there is nothing untoward with your oh’s pancreas. At least they’ve put him in the picture now.

AnnG, you had a nice morning out :-) and busy in the garden this afternoon. Are you making wildlife piles to keep the little beasties going over winter? I saw a springwatch video on FB last night (spingwatch on about pre winter jobs?) I think my veg beds will be winter homes, we have a very grand bug hotel built by the fella.

Mandy, Bats?

Ann’s painting is just my cup of tea :-) so much depth and different images appear. Did anyone spot the little dog in the top left corner? Have to ask though.... I thought the pic on the left is a painting too which was given as inspiration?

I think my keyboard needs a good vaccing! Some letters either don’t register or appear twice. It’s very annoying having to do a thorough proof read all the time – my posts would make no sense if I didn’t.

I realised this morning that the weekend after next we change the clocks! :-0

After a short sit down I did an hour in the garden. Cut all the hostas leaves off and tidied the ferns cut back two trailing ivy geraniums and put them in the conservatory. Moved two osteosoernums to a more sheltered from frost spot, got one more to do. Put two begonia pots into the greenhouse and tidied up the patio a bit. Noticed the Michaelmas daisies have finished flowering so next dry day that is another job, they need sorting out a bit. Hoping for another dry day as I need to give the lawn another cut.

Afternoon all,

Bright and breezy today with lovely blue sky and it's now 7 degrees.

Ann I wouldn't have known which was the photo and which was your painting if you hadn't said its really so good .

Anng you've had a nice morning out and got a few things you need sounds as if you had a bit of a hairy ride home though .

Mel the Bats are on the wing :-D they left home today.

We were going to have some new vertical blinds for the lounge but I washed the slats that we have and they came up a treat so they have gone back up .

We're having stew tonight with veg and mash

Vera chickens lay best when they have 12 hours at least of daylight but some have a break for moulting around July and then start again. The older they get the less they lay but eat more food. Some bred for battery places lay more eggs like the two new girls but I don't know really how old they are as I forgot to ask. They ususally start to lay at about 21 weeks old. My two still have pink cones which means they are not laying once they turn red they could be coming into lay.

Damp dusted the bathrooms bedroom and washed down the kitchen cupboard doors and cleaned the little loo. Now I am going to get some lunch.
