Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Nov 2021 09:13

Morning Anng and all,

I too agree about the nights drawing in one min its lightish and the next its dark before you know it. I notice it when I take the bantams food out at night.

10 degrees here this morning and we have some sunshine but how long it will last is anyones guess.

Now oh's birthday is over I am trying to think what I can buy him for Christmas as I think he has about any tool under the sun in the workshop. Perhaps some new clothes? They would have to be scruffs though as he hardly ever goes out we just live in our own little world here in the walled garden.

AnninGlos Report 7 Nov 2021 06:55

Good morning all, no frost last night, 8 degrees now.Still quite dark out there hope we at least see some sun today.

I agree re the evenings seeming longer this year, Not helped by the fact that we seem to have had a long session of dull dark days this year so lights are on earlier than usual.

Island Report 6 Nov 2021 22:10

I'm with you re the evenings Annx. I don't know why but they seem to have got darker and longer so suddenly this year. Strange...

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Nov 2021 22:02

I forgot to put the candles on the burgers but he was out here in the kitchen watching the qualifyers for tomorrows race so he might have seen what I was doing.

He'sjust taken himself off now so I can watch what I like on the tv as the chnager is now in my hands.

Annx Report 6 Nov 2021 21:02

Oh he will enjoy his presents Mel! :-) Yes, make him a 'burger' cake with candles! That stick's disappearance is a mystery? :-S I live in hope that it will turn up one day though. :-) Phil sounds quite a character. Till I heard it on the Alan Titchmarsh prog I never realised there were so many kinds of Pheasant.

Just a bit of soreness now Island and we are both pretty convinced that me lying on my side last night must have irritated the nerve or whatever. I've given up the idea of the settee tonight as I doubt I could get up easily if it happens again. It will be uncomfortable but I will see if I can prop myself almost sitting in bed and see how it is. More whizz bangs here and some big booms, but it's quieted down now.

Since the clocks have changed this time, the evenings seem so long and dark to me. I didn't seem to notice so much last year.

Island Report 6 Nov 2021 19:55

You sure they're not taking it in turns Mel.

I meant to say on my last post - I hope the birthday boys had a fun day :-D :-D

and I've just been out the back and the workies are loud. Thank goodness for double glazing.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Nov 2021 19:18

I know its Phil because he follows me around to the workshop where I get the corn for the chickens nad he knows what time I go round there but the hour back has put him out of synk. I did'nt see him at all today. He will eatr out of my hand to and skips about in front of me or comes when I call him and go and get him a bit of corn which he shares with Percy Pigeon.. He also has a limp from fighting for his territory with another make which killed itself on the chickens fencing and a broken beak which grows and then breaks again.

Well I have not done a thing all day except get the lunch and a cuppa this afternoon and now its time to get the burgers for tonight. I may put candles in his as he had a card which has a burger on the front and it says "If you can stick candles in it it counts as a cake"!

Island

Island Report 6 Nov 2021 19:02

Evening all

Fireworks here yesterday but not loud - either too far off or good double glazing. Doggie was never bothered, even when I took him out for a look.

Crikey Vera, sounds like you get David Walliams on the phone - 'computer says no'
It's so annoying after you go though all the options on the phone to end up 'not computing'. I realised after the mind boggling call I had to the bank a few months back that laddo on the other end just kept repeating my questions without saying 'just to clarify' or 'so you are having problems with....' He made it sound as if accessing my account by my usual way was no longer an option :-S

I hope you've got your feet up and relaxing now Mandy.

I'm sorry you're in such pain Annx and that it's going on for so long. I think I got of lightly with three days but it was excruciating to try to move.

I hope your hip has eased Mel. How do you know which of the cock pheasants is Phil? They all look the same to me lol. I haven't heard any shooting here or pheasants in the local butchers, perhaps the poor birds escaped to the woods.

I haven't found my FH disc yet. :-| :-| :-| :-|

Start again after losing a post.

Ann I bought him a bottle of Lemon Gin and a packet of dark choic big buttons as I bought him a pressure washer for his main present a few weeks ago when the old one conked out and he needed one.

I often wonder where you put that flashstick and if it will ever turn up again.

It turned really cloudy this afternoon and then started to rain abou 4.15 pm.

Keep trying to get and do a little bit of craft but keep finding other things need doing first.

Annx Report 6 Nov 2021 13:42

Afternoon All,

:-D :-D HAPPY BIRTHDAY to VINCENT :-D :-D. Also to Mandy's son! Have you baked him a birthday cake Mel and got him some surprises! I hope the little hog will be ok. If the 'Hotel' is still in your garden hopefully he might find it. We have recorded Dalgleish. How's the hip today?

Woke up in pain at 4.00am and got out of bed and was almost in tears with it for the first 2 hours. It gradually subsided over the next 2 hours and is just sore again now. I will try sleeping sitting up on the settee tonight. Poor hubby is worn out too.

You have been busy Vera. We still need to get out in the garden and finish off for winter.

It's a shame your friend has a cold AnnG........best to keep away though.

Did you find your FH disc Island? As Mel says I hid a flashstick with mine on and hid it when we went away one year and I have never come across it again since!

Lots of bangs round here till about midnight, some really loud. OH was telling me that the cut off time for Diwali and New Year is 1.00am, but is 11.00pm for Bonfire night. I don't think some realise or don't care.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Nov 2021 12:40

He certsainly would Anng. I hav'nt seen him yet but he usually turns up at corn time for the big girls. I'll let you know if I see him.

Well the shoot did'nt last that long and was over in about half an hour if that. They are not putting birds down becasue of corvid and not many visitors to the big house at a time.
The wee posty ( my nans expresion) has been but I am very surprised that there were'nt any more cards for oh from his sisters who usually send him cards.

Sun and then cloud and its tried to rain a bit too. 13 degrees.

AnninGlos Report 6 Nov 2021 12:07

Just come in from the garden for a late coffee. I did a load of washing and that is in the drier, it is alternately grey and dull with flashes of weak sun. I gave the lawn what I hope is its last cut, then I cut back a very large sprawling honeysuckle, shame it was flowering where nobody could see it, it is a wild one not planted by us and I thought T had cut it out but it has obviously re-grown. I then sorted out the bit behind the trellis where the compost bins are as it is a bit of a dumping ground. and all the time little robin was around my feet, he even sat on the edge of a large pot watching me fork the ground over and was about 6 inches from the fork. I left him rooting around where I dug.

Vera, sorry you had a not so good night but you seem to have agot a lot done so you can rest this afternoon. Yes better not to catch colds if they can be avoided.

Mel, poor Pheasants, hope Phil escaped, he would be a bit of a tough old bird wouldn't he?

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 6 Nov 2021 11:51

Forgot to say we could hear fireworks between 5 and 10 last night so I guess quite a few people round here had some in their gardens but though I looked out several times I didn’t see anything at all.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 6 Nov 2021 11:48

Happy Birthday Mr Mel and Mandy’s son. Hope they both have a lovely day.

It’s a shame your coffee with a friend had to be cancelled but it’s the sensible thing to do. You don’t want to be catching any colds right now.

I hope the anti-spasm pills are starting to have an effect Ann.

11 degrees here but very dull and grey, no sign of any sun. I woke at 5 am and couldn’t get back to sleep and just lay there till 7 am when I got up. I’ve prepared tonight’s meal, tidied round generally and cleaned two bathrooms. I also went out to the postbox to post my letter about the Winter Fuel Payments. Now I’m having a cuppa. I feel quite tired but must plod on as I want to do a bit more in the garden while it’s dry and not too cold. It’s not quite ready for winter yet.

Tea is now drunk so I’d better get outside to that garden, although I’m not keen as I’m a bit of a fair weather gardener ;-)

O and I meant to say I watched Dalgliesh last night late and as I was cleaning my teeth I heard one big firework go off and that was at 2am.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 6 Nov 2021 11:30

We've had guns going off over the back in the wood and we saw 6 male phesants fly very low to the trees behind the chicken run. I hope Phil was safe.

Morning Anng Mandy and all,

Happy Birthday to your son Mandy hope he has a pleasent one.

Sunshine here at the mo and 12 degrees and as I typed that the sun went in!!!

Just the shop to do today and I must email Em to see if they took pics of the boys pumpkins as I gave them remote control lights for them. I bought them the year before last. Two in a pack and they are like big tea lights and they flicker but there was only one contol with them so I did'nt give them to the boys but now they are older they will share.

Sorry your friend has a cold Anng and your coffee mornings off. Still its something for you both to look forward to when she's better. I wish her well soon.

Wonder what our Frank and Gill have been up to and whether Gill has that ceiling finished yet?

Morning Anng morning all,

Happy birthday to Mr Mel I knew it was his birthday today as its sons birthday today too.

Bit grey here today but I've chanced it and hung the bedding out there's a bit of a blow so hopefully I can get them dry before any showers come this afternoon.

Enjoy your coffee and chat with your friend Anng .

Vera they say laughter is the best medicine it does you good to relax and laugh with friends and it sounds as if you got plenty over the three hours :-D

Island that photo was good it did look like Batman :-D

Mel how lovely to find the Hedgehog in the garden I was only thinking the other day you haven't mentioned the Hedgehogs lately .

Ann hope you managed to get a better night's sleep last night hopefully the anti spasm tablets will help you .

Right better get going were still trying to get the lounge straight just pictures to go up and I think that's it ,we were going to do them yesterday and then Chelsea and Katie called in on their way from school and we sat and had a nice chat hearing about what they have been up to at school and what they would like for Christmas.
It was so nice to see them together and getting on together usually when we go to theirs there's a but of arguing and they don't always see eye to eye .

Good morning all, dry and dull looking here so far looks like rain. 8 degrees.

Going round to a friends for coffee this morning so will be good to have a chat.

Vera that was good for you to have a laugh, the best tonic 'they' say.

I think that is why I look back at early Genes with a fondness as I remember really laughing at some of the funny antics. It was a real tonic Yes I do also remember some of the nastiness but I think that was because many had not handled the onset of social media well and underestimated the damage that could be done by a word out of place. Others still used playground behaviour (bullying). Thankfully most of them grew up and settled down and it is nowhere near as much of a problem (in fact there probably is no problem on this site now)
