When somebody we know on here dies it is almost like losing a member of the family. I shall miss those way out recipes.

I think it a shock for all of us on the boards. Dear Sharron often came out with some very funny posts and I used to read them but not comment sometimes.

RIP Sarron you wil be sorely missed on the boards. <3

Just done a post, pressed submit, the post disappeared and the sign in page came up again. I can’t redo it now so I’ll just wish you all a very good night.

Just seen Gwyn’s thread. What a shock for Sharon’s partner. She did seem to be really ill when she last posted. I can’t believe they didn’t have her in hospital to give her oxygen.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 12 Nov 2021 20:01

Oh gosh zi had not seen that I knew she was poorly though. Oh yes such a shame I liked her sense of humour.

It should be me sending the slip off but I signed the slip so Martyn could do it. It is the part of the log book that you sign and send off. It generates the refund now since tax can’t transfer with the car.

Annx Report 12 Nov 2021 18:41

That's good to know AnnG. I didn't know if you had to do something yourself to get it. I will tell OH ready for when he swaps his car.

What a shock to see Sharron on the boards has passed away. She was posting last night too. I shall miss her funny tales and posts.

Martyn will send the slip off for change of owner which is what activates the refund of road tax. He did it with the Lexus too. It will take a while though took a few months last time.

Yes I thought I'd read a while ago that everyone was getting Pfizer this time Mel. We had different jabs but still had to go to the racecourse rather than the surgery for ours. They have started doing them at the surgery as well now though. OH was in and out in no time, even though he was 20 minutes early and we were back home before the traffic rush started which was good.

Vera I think there was something similar with my old bank account. I know they wouldn't let me close the saver account and I think it was to do with recording interest, but am not sure. I need to see if I can check it online.

That's good the car is already sold and for a good price and quickly too AnnG. Will you be claiming the Road tax back on it as well? At least it all went smoothly and speedily. Some of those ramblers just want to get from A to B quickly don't they which is not what I would enjoy either.

AnninGlos Report 12 Nov 2021 16:51

I actually thought it was the Astra (whatever) that had to be kept in a special fridge not the Pfizer Mel although I could be wrong. Where my sister is she has had the Middrna.

Yes I have tried to keep my brain occupied and I did walk down to the book stall, she likes us to stock up on books for a month as the stall is only monthly now so I got four books all by Rosie Goodwin I have read a couple of her books before and enjoyed them.

One good thing Martyn at the garage has sold my car. It sold to another local garage for £1800 which is actually more than I expected especially as it really needs two new tires. Anyway hopefully the money should be in my account soon. So that is out of the way

Gosh Vera your bank have been a problem. I was thinking why didn’t they just give you your money but I guess they just didn’t want to lose you.

Could you ask your wine lady to just give you taster half glasses if the idea is to taste it not enjoy drinking it? Tell her too much will give you a migraine. Will she feed you as well?

Ann T and I were always determined to ‘stop and smell the roses’ although he found it more difficult to put into practice. We also dropped out of a walking group because they walked fast from A to B and we liked to stop and look.

SuffolkVera Report 12 Nov 2021 16:02

That's interesting Mel as we had Pfizer for all our jabs and they were all done at our little local surgery. I wouldn't have thought they had any special refrigeration facilities as it's just a little local offshoot of the main surgery in town. Perhaps they are better equipped than we realised.

I hope OH's booster jab goes well Ann and you don't have too much waiting around. I've just checked the bank account and I see that OH's WFP has been paid in. If they can get his right, why not mine? I've not had a response yet to my last letter to them.

As for the bank where we are trying to close an account....well!!! Yesterday we got a letter addressed to us jointly and thought it would be confirming the closure of the account and the transfer of the money in it to our nominated account elsewhere. We were wrong. It was a request to us to telephone them as they needed further information from us. We couldn't imagine what more they could want as they already have just about everything but our knicker size. OH phoned and was asked to hold on while the assistant found our papers. Five minutes later she is back "We seem to have lost your papers. I'll find them and ring you within half an hour". Just over an hour later OH was about to ring them again when she called. She had our papers. She didn't need any information but had to tell us she couldn't close the account. :-S. When asked why not we were told it was because there is money in it. Yes, and on their own account closure form it asks where we would like the money to go. We have given details of our nominated account in another bank. No, they can't transfer the money as the account no longer works like that, which is exactly why we want to close it. Stalemate. They apparently can't close the account with money in it and they can't move the money out of it :-S. Their suggestion, which they first made last June and we turned down then, is that we open a current account with them, and transfer all our money into that. Why would we want to do that? We already have a perfectly good current account with a bank we are happy with and I certainly wouldn't open one with an organization that is such a shambles. Without going into even more details of the conversation that was going round in ever decreasing circles, the upshot is that they are going to send us a cheque for the full amount in the account (hooray) and then close it. Why couldn't they have done that 5 months ago? If the cheque doesn't arrive reasonably quickly I will write giving them 14 days to produce it and telling them that if they don't I will be instituting a complaint at a high level and will be charging them interest on our money.

Sorry to have gone on at some length but between the DWP and this bank I am beginning to feel that I am living in some sort of parallel universe :-S

Ann I think we are all getting the Pfizer jab and thats why we c an't go to the docs for it. It has to be kept in a special fridge and the docs don't have the right ones.

It's bound to bring back such sad memmories AnnG, but as Vera says, remember the good times as much as you can.

That's what most of us women do as part of 'multi tasking. The seminar was meaning eg when people go for a walk, say with their dog and they can't relax and enjoy the moment. They don't enjoy breathing the fresh air and smelling the hay or watching the wildlife, as they are watching their phone and their head is full of what they have to do next, what happened yesterday, ruminating about what is upsetting them etc. Before retiring, OH's mind was always on the next thing and the next day, due to the pressures in his job. He is much better now, but when he is doing his notes on the PC he is always checking his emails inbetween instead of finishing what he has started first. OH thought it was very good. The mind is such a powerful tool that we don't always use very well, I know I don't.

Vera I can't wait for your next Bank episode! Dare I mention that my Winter Fuel Payment has now arrived in my new Bank Account? :-0 I think I had about as much sleep as you last night. I was awake at 2.30am and again at 5.00am. How many wines will the lady have for you to taste? I would hate having to do it so formally as well.

You've been busy Mel. All I have done is get lunch of cauliflower bakes, cheese and spring onion bakes and a mixed salad and pay bills and my car tax. I'm going with OH for his booster next. I think he will get the Pfizer jab instead of Astrazenika this time. I'd better go and get ready!

Good afternoon all

12 degrees so not too cold but grey and wet again here. Yesterday OH said he would do some more clearing up in the garden today but it's far too soggy for that.

It's a sad day for you AnnG but try and keep occupied and remember all the happy times you had together. Sending you a gentle ((((hug)))) <3

I had a much better night last night and got a few hours sleep although I was awake at 5 am. I went to Sainsbury's at 9 am as I wanted fresh veg. Before Covid it was always busy at that time on a Friday as parents would do their weekend shopping after dropping their children at school but I was relieved that it wasn't busy at all. I whizzed around, got my few bits and went straight to a checkout with no queuing.

We've been asked round to a lady in the next road at 6 pm. She started a wine appreciation group with the U3A a long while ago and they have just started meeting up again. Apparently she was doing a tasting at her home yesterday and was expecting 14 people. Only 6 turned up! I suspect several thought 14 in her room would be too much of a crowd and stayed away. Anyway she has a lot of wine left over and wants us to go and share some with her. There will only be the 3 of us. I'm not really looking forward to it. She has invited us like this before and she makes it very formal with tasting notes and discussions. I like my wine but these days I only drink in small amounts - normally, only a glass, very occasionally two glasses but that's about my limit nowadays.

Just noticed the time. I said I'd do lunch today so I'd better go and sort it. I might BBL with the latest in our ongoing bank saga.

Done well this morning two loads of washing, hoovered the kitchen and diner and swept up outside the back door. Fed chickens and bantams and put 5 tins of paint away and boiled two dish cloths. Now I am going to do lunch.

It did rain just after I posted this morning but its stopped now but pc still says rain coming.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 12 Nov 2021 12:47

Could you have told him that Ann without the need for a seminar? I could relate to that and we always told my mum she had a butterfly mind. But I do tend to flit around usually doing three things at once but often that is to save energy, e.e. if I am doing something and need to collect something for that job I will try and pick up something else that needs to be moved to the area I am going. that is fine as long as when I get there I can remember why I am there :-D

A grotty miserable down day for me today as it is exactly a year since Tony went off to hospital and I kissed him goodbye outside the front door. and that was the last time I saw him. Wretched Covid, it is heart breaking to think of all the other families who have been in the same place.

Morning All,

Dull here and 13 degrees and my PC says cloudy. OH has just finished watching a seminar on Mindfullness and has decided he flits from one thing to another too much! lol.

I must put the washer on too Mel, I don't know where all the washing comes from. I poked my head inside the greenhouse this morning and the geraniums are a blaze of colour. That sickly, broken, rock plant I bought and planted anyway has quite a strong shoot on it now.

Must go the cooker has 'dinged'.

Good morning all, showery here but looks like it could be getting brighter 12 degrees so not too cold.

We both owned a large number of cars, never bought a brand new one or even a fairly new one. T always liked to get luxury older cars such as Mercs, BMWs and the Lexus They were all so comfortable for long distance travel. Of course in our younger days we had fords and Austins, a large Triumph, a couple of Nissans, wolsely, A MG Magnet and a couple i can't remember what they were, all big cars, always sad to get rid of them when the time came Personally I had an Austin A35, Wolsey 1300, Vauxhall viva (Hated that one), a couple I can't remember, Two VW golfs, one of which was a GTi, a very heavy to steer rover 2000, A renault with gear change on the steering wheel (loved that one until it rusted away), a Honda, another VW and the Hyundai. My favourite was the Red Golf GTi That was passed on to our son so stayed in the family for a while, The MG Magnet was the one I drove the furthest as I used to drive it down to Devon from Hampshire in the 60s to meet T off HMS Eagle.
