It seems to have got a bit warmer again today, although it’s been pretty grey and a bit wet this morning.

I hope you are now settled in your home for the week AnnG. I googled and it does look a nice place. Enjoy your time there.

The pain in my back has moved again and doesn’t seem to want to ease up much. I’m trying not to take more painkillers than absolutely necessary and I’m using heat pads but I’m a bit fed up with it now. Although the physio says people with bad backs shouldn’t sit in bed (or in the bath) it’s the only way I can get comfortable. I am getting up and moving around every so often and today I’ve tried a couple of the gentler exercises he gave me last time I was bad. I’ve managed to shower but couldn’t face washing and drying my hair. I moan about OH but he’s been very good really. He’s done all the washing and cooking and a few odd jobs and he’s up and down the stairs with cups of tea and sandwiches. I’m lucky to have him.

My neighbour has been confirmed with Covid and is going to be kept in hospital for a few days at least. He doesn’t seem too bad and is being given all the latest anti-viral drugs. His wife is self isolating.

This is a miserable post isn’t it. Things will get better eventually and I’ll sign off with a wave ~~~~~~~~ and a big smile to cheer us all up :-D :-D

Not far Mandy, first bit was an hour to Hayes garden world at Ambleside through the most awesome scenery of the mountains and hills of the North looming out of the misty weather. We had lunch there, really good jacket with tuna mayo and coleslaw, then a look round and bought a few bits. Then about 45 minutes to here and we were all unpacked and had a food delivery from Tesco by 4.30.

Still windy here and dull and everywhere's really wet out there.

Safe journey Anng.

Morning Anng and all,

Very windy here and dull and wet with it not a nice day at all.

So your off again across the country. Have a nice time.

Sending wishes to all who feel under the weather and hope you are better soon. If we could have some nice weather I think we would all feel better for that.

Two deer have just run across the garden and ones jumped over the fence into the top garden. The other one is eating something on my border by the Magnolia.

I hope you have a good night’s sleep Island.

I have had another day in bed and am feeling a lot better. OH wants me to stay here for another couple of days as he reckons I’ve been overdoing it and have got really run down but I don’t think my nerves will stand it wondering how much mess I’ll have to clear up when I do get up. He did some washing today and I had to bite my tongue and not be critical about his methods. I did go downstairs about 6.30 for an hour and a half and couldn’t believe how one man could make the place so untidy in just 2 days. I didn’t say a word but quietly put a few things away while he was finishing cooking our meal.

My neighbour phoned about 5 pm to say they think her OH has Covid. He had a slightly raised temperature, a bit of a headache and a sniffly nose so she rang 111 for advice and because of his other health problems they arranged an ambulance to take him to hospital for a PCR test and proper checking. She is hoping he’ll be back tonight. This is the couple I’ve mentioned before. They are both vulnerable with several health problems yet never seem to have really understood the guidance and advice given. There are always people at their house and they are out and about all the time. In fact they came back Monday night after 6 days away in a hotel. I do hope that if the chap has got Covid he has a mild dose and hope the wife doesn’t get it.

I think I’ll watch something on my iPad for a while before settling down to sleep. We don’t have TV in any of the bedrooms but I couldn’t manage without my iPad as it functions as my computer, my library and my TV. Sleep tight everyone, sweet dreams.

It is a lovely place with some history as you say and in a lovely spot too AnnG and a break there will be lovely.

Oh no Mel! I remember Jane doing the same with one of James' jumpers!! It's usually the more expensive ones that come off worst. I asked OH where his socks were, thinking I would try them, but he was wearing them. He said he usually wears them over other socks, but they are too small to do that now, so he was wearing them on their own.

OH feels a lot better now, but decided not to risk going to footie. He said it was bad enough at the hospital when he was trying to locate toilets last week! So we were playing Scrabble, watching recorded Kirstie this afternoon. Then he watched darts while I did some painting.

I hope Vera had a better night with her back and that it is a little better today.

Yes it would be nice to her how Frank and Gill are getting on and I hope Island's keyboard hasn't given up.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 28 Dec 2021 12:23

Ann I can remember shrinking a mohair jumper of my first oh's. The body of it ended up about a foot square but the sleeves ended up about three and a half foot long. It did make me laugh when it came out of the twin tub though and he could'nt possibly wear it again and it was a Christmas present from my mum.

I hope Vera's back is better today and she can have a good day and hope she managed enough sleep last night.

Still no Gill I hope they are all ok.

Sending wishes to Frank.

Hope Island can get her keyboard to work today and it would be nice to hear from Gwyoo.

We also hav'nt heard from EOS lately but I expect she is busy with all the Christmassy things but I will send her seasons greeting with love for a good new year. <3

Ann if you look up Sawrey Knott there is a lot of history on one site I found once as it is quite old, or part of it is, if I remember, it goes back to being a Manor House and then a hotel, I think I looked it up on the census. But for us, yes a lot of history and memories as T and I stayed there on our own while daughter and SiL were still running it as a holiday let. Then, 2014 the year Jon died all the fs I,y were around and it was a very wet week. Christmas Eve the basement flooded(first time ever), I got out of bed and the floor, carpet was sopping wet. T spent all day with a large Vax getting the water up, and then he was doing it again Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Luckily it stopped raining but it was a very soggy. Christmas and we were trying to keep it from Jon. He was very poorly by then and in a wheelchair so unable to get down to the basement bedroom.
Hope OH’s problem eases soon. Hide the peanuts,

Morning All,

Same weather here, but it's 8 degrees so a bit warmer. I slept well but there was a bit of blood this morning from the tooth I broke. :-S I must look up whether the Dentist's is open yet, doubtful.

AnnG the building has some history and memories for the family then. Your daughter had quite a bit of upheaval around the time her poor husband passed away. Not an easy time for her at all. I will look up Sawrey Knott as I like quieter places to visit when on holiday. I must admit to liking bigger kitchens with room for a table and chairs. I hope it all looks nice now it's done!!

Hubby has the trots again and isn't going to his 2 matches today. It's not surprising with all the peanuts etc he's been eating. I had today all planned for just me, but already he is asking about lunch! I told him I was busy just now! He's also shrunk a pair of his thick walking boot socks he wears for footie by just bunging them in with a hot wash!! I wonder if they will fit me now? :-)

Morning all,

Raining here this morning but it doesn't seem that cold out when I nipped down to the shed to get some leeks to make some soup .

Ann yes I do look at the château on FB ,I think i might start my book this afternoon and we'll soon start a jigsaw puzzle too ,we usually get one on the go after Christmas although hopefully the family can come on new year's day so we will need to use the table we do it on so the puzzle will probably be done after that .

Oh Vera your poor back its awful having to get through the day in pain when your in company your trying not to spoil the day for others when really all you want is to lay down to ease the pain , I hope you managed a better night's sleep last night ,a few days rest will hopefully get you better .

Mel an afternoon of crafting sounds just right ,what are you having a go at .
We've been watching those countryside christmas programmes they are good, we're now watching the second one ,there's four I think .
So a holiday within a holiday Anng :-) that will be nice .

For those that like Downton I see the film is on itv at 8.30 on new year's day.

Island perhaps you should have put a new keyboard on your list for santa :-) hope you've got it sorted now .

Better have a look at my soup see if it's done , I need to empty the washing machine too as I stripped the bed first thing .

It is a nice area Ann. If you google Sawrey Knott that is where we are renting an apartment. We are on the first floor in the tower. For a few years daughter and her late husband owned the ground floor apartment in the Tower (The writing room).. they then sold their house in Winchester and moved in to the apartment having a new bedroom and en suite built into the basement. They had lived there Less than two years when Jon died so she sold it and moved to Dalton In Furness as it would be too isolated in Sawrey. We will be in the apartment above what was hers. She and Joe still do all the accounts for the trust.

Full to bursting with dinner tonight.

Poor you Vera it must have been horrid to be in someone elses house and have that kind of back ache and not being able to show it and taking painkillers on the sligh. It does seem like the day in bed has really helped you though and there's nothing like your own bed is there?

Hope the keyboard holds out for you Island we can't have you not being able to post you know. :-D :-D

Its been raining here all afternoon and been dull and miserable and I have had to have the light on all afternoon in the kitchen diner.

At last I made my Christmas bird feeder this afternoon and they shall have it tomorrow. I just did'nt get time to do it before Christmas with one thing and another.

I'll send a pick of it up I just hope it all stays on the ring.

Annx Report 27 Dec 2021 20:23

I had to look that up AnnG and it does look a pretty village. Is it a place you are all staying or where family live? It looks good for photos if the weather is fine.

Oh Vera what a nuisance you have had such a rough time with your poor back. It sounds like the rest today has at least helped make it bearable. Have you any of those deep heat patches, they are good. Hopefully you will have a better night tonight. Well you did make me chuckle at the thought of your 'Long Face Time' get together. I imagined the long faces! lol. It was good your grand daughter could join you though. She must be fed up stuck in her room, but it's what my teacher last summer did with her 19 year old and at least no-one else caught it. You had some lovely presents and I particularly like the sound of the garden ones!

I hope your keyboard isn't on the blink Island. I think I will be off to bed shortly as I am tired too.
