I have trouble hearing when everyone talks at once AnnG. I'm sure most on tv talk much faster than they did years ago and often drop the end letters of words which doesn't help. Things like 'ge' instead of 'get', 'lookin' instead of 'looking'. Add in different accents and I'm not surprised you have some difficulty.
I'm not surprised you are whacked Mel! You've been flying about today. When will you be able to get the cream for OH now? It seems like one of your girls is leaving you an egg but can you tell which one it is leaving the gift?
Mandy it is so annoyoying when you lose a post, especially if it is a long one. We are having ham hocks tomorrow and OH will do the veg in the morning. We need to use up some baking potatoes, so I'm going to do roasts with them for OH. I want to cook a lamb risotto tomorrow to just add rice to be quick on Sunday as it is the food delivery and it's coming an hour earlier than usual.
We never stay up for the New Year these days either, so I will also wish you all a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 as well. Hopefully it will be better and more normal for us all.

Evening all,
I did a long post this morning and it just went .
It's been a nice sunny day after a little rain first thing, I cooked a piece of beef ready for tomorrow and I also have a chicken out of the freezer to cook tomorrow as Lewis doesn't like beef ,the veg are all prepared and the potatoes preboied too .
Ann I think going out early is the best thing to do its much quieter then especially as the schools are on holiday and I don't think people with children come out early .
We had F&C today so we've just had a gammon roll and mince pie with a ittle cream .
I don't think we will be staying up to see the new year in so will wish everyone a Very Happy New Year ,here's hoping the new year will be better than the last year for everyone <3

Evening all. A bit chaotic as there are six of us I. This room plus the dog. Needless to say I can’t understand what everyone is saying when they all talk at once. Three from Cumbria and one from Liverpool plus daughter and I. Really have a problem with a Liverpudlian accent.

Hi all,
Don't know where today has gone.
We went for diesel and oh got mower petrol too. Then we went to the surgery for our scripts which after a long wait they found them in the Shebbear box but no cream for oh which he was given when we went on the 23rd. We did'nt know the name of it so there was nothing I could do. We then drove home and oh came in and I went off to the shop for some bits like toms and butter and grapes and some carrots and his cigs and a tv paper.
Came home and did soup for lunch and cleared up after that and fed the chickens and wild birds and thats about it. I am now starting dinner.
I feel whacked out!! :-(
Doing a salad with the last of the gammon and eggs. Had an egg today too. I seem to be getting one every other day at the moment.
So what have you lot been up to?

Morning All,
Sunny here and 12 degrees now and the wind we had last night has dropped. We managed to get up early and shower before getting to the factory shop for opening time. Hardly any traffic around which surprised us, but I suppose more are working from home again now. We found a very similar kettle to the one we have but it is much quieter which is good. In fact we can't tell when it has boiled it is so quiet! I also got more fat balls and coconut shells for the birds as they are cheap from there.
Mel I hope you check the weight of these new mattresses. Some are so heavy now that we have vowed to only get lighter weight ones if we can in future. You don't have to turn ours over, just end to end which is fine, but we will need to move the bed out when we get the floor done so that will take some effort!
A bedside bulb went last night and it is one of those cylindrical LED ones, but I have managed to find one the same online to order. They are strange little bulbs but very economical according to the blurb.
I have a zoom meeting with friends soon so I need to get lunch decided and set up ready to do after it.

We've both spent all afternoon looking online for a new mattress. WE think we may have found one but are going to have another look tomorrow. WE have to get down the shop before 1pm to get a few bits and bobs and go and get some diesel and some scripts. So if I don't get on here till later tomorrow don't worry about us.

Yes, Lakeland stores have many things to tempt us don't they!
Vera I do that weight shifting with my knees too when I have to queue so know what you mean. It does sound as if it is a little better though and you must be thankful for that. I can't take NSAIDs with my beta blocker either. Alcohol has an effect on them too so I avoid that as well. I have occasionally used the patches with ibuprofen in them and expect there is less problem with them not being oral, but perhaps I aught to check with a chemist to be certain. I'm sure I had one or two twinges from the tooth today, but it seems ok, other than not being able to eat that side for fear of snapping off the narrow bit that's left. OH said the pain from his hernia was the worst he's had from it, so he lay on the bed for a while and it has settled down now. He's had one before and knows what to expect, and what is serious, but again, who wants to go in hospital just now if it can wait. His tennis elbow has been playing up as well as the tooth he has been waiting over 2 years to be extracted while they decide who is to do it, so he's not a happy bunny today. Your neighbours have no idea about keeping themselves and others safe have they. I expect they gave her a covid test and if it was clear she thinks she is ok and won't be doing one anymore. What a nuisance having to go back for your scripts again.
I had an email from Fitz today with a picture of his 15 foot high Christmas tree. What a whopper to put up and dress, but he has a nice big space for it! He mentioned that the Rose family had spent Christmas Eve with them which was nice.
Our kettle that we only bought last year has stopped hotting the water up so we may nip to the factory shop early tomorrow to get another, or I will order one online. It is strange as the light comes on when you press the boil switch, so power is getting through, so it seems it must be the element that has gone.
I should finish my painting easily tomorrow, just a little easier part to do and that's it. I really like it up to now so better not ruin it now!
Cases in this area in the last week have gone up over 81%.

Vera ah yes I had either not known or forgotten that you were on Bp pills as I am and you are correct. I know it applies to pills like. Nurofen. But Check if it also applies to ointment applied externally which doesn’t go through your digestive system. I am sure I have seen something like that but it needs a medical opinion. I have actually used both once or twice but not constantly and it didn’t affect my BP. Probably better to err on the side of caution as it seems to be improving

It’s about 14 degrees here at the moment so quite warm but it’s been thick grey cloud all day.
I know what you mean about Lakeland AnnG. We always used to go into their Ipswich shop as it was in an old listed building that was really quirky. I’d go in just for a wander around the building and somehow always came out having bought something. Sadly the Ipswich shop has closed. You mentioned Voltarol and Ibuleve. I haven’t used them because, unless you check with the doctor first and he says OK, you shouldn’t take anything containing NSAIDs if you are on blood pressure pills. I believe that NSAIDs (such as Ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenic) can raise blood pressure and so conflict with pills that are designed to lower it.
I hope your tooth behaves itself for a bit longer Ann and hope OH is not too uncomfortable with his hernia. Does it usually settle down again fairly quickly?
It’s strange that you can do your scripts online but not OH’s, Mel. Have you queried this with your surgery?
I’ve also had a problem with my script today. I decided this morning that I must keep moving and not lie in bed too much so OH said he would drive me to pick up my meds. He dropped me at a junction near the pharmacy so I just had a short walk and went to park. I usually get served by a nice middle aged lady who greets me by name and is very efficient but she wasn’t there and I got a very droopy boy. He went through all the prescriptions and couldn’t find mine, so he checked their computer records. Then he called another girl over to check, then the manager checked. Then I was told they had sent the usual request to the doctors but hadn’t had approval back, so they would send it again marked urgent but I should also phone the surgery and chase them up. I phoned this afternoon and eventually got through to the dispensary there who said they had no record of a request for my meds this month, so either the pharmacy or the surgery have got in a muddle and my money’s on the pharmacy. The result was the pharmacist at the surgery said she would put a script through to the doctor for approval straightaway but it will mean another trip to town to collect the meds.
There is not a single lateral flow test to be had anywhere in town so today’s trip was a complete waste of time.
I am wondering what bit of the phrase “self-isolation” my neighbour doesn’t understand. She has had visitors today for several hours. To be fair to her the current advice isn’t clear. I know that if you have Covid in the house you can still go out if you test negative every day and you are fully jabbed but I think that’s meant for things like essential shopping. The husband is in hospital now but he hasn’t been gone long so the virus could still be around the house and she is vulnerable herself, so it seems so irresponsible to have visitors like that. It puts everyone at risk. When I spoke to her on the phone I offered to get any essential stuff she needed but told her I would leave it on the doorstep, ring the bell and retreat to my house, so she knows where I stand. Rant over now :-)
I was determined not to spend the day in bed but I did have to come back to bed soon after 4 pm as my back was so painful, though I think it is getting slowly better. I managed to wash my hair when I showered and I dried it with the hairdryer and I’ve done several minor household jobs and been into town. Walking in town wasn’t too bad but just standing in the pharmacy while they tried to sort my script out was agony. I kept shifting from foot to foot. They probably thought I needed to spend a penny. Oh, I also prepared tonight’s meal and got a casserole in the oven. OH just has to cook some potatoes and a green veg which I have already prepared.
I hope everyone else’s aches and pains are not too bad and you all have a good night.

Good afternoon all. It has been drizzly wet all day but not cold. Luckily from previous experience we have several places to visit on wer days. This morning we went to the large Lakeland store I. Windermere for coffee and found quite a few things that we could buy that we had not realised we wanted. Then we drove to Hawkeshead where we were surprised that the Hawkeshead shop has closed its cafe. Anyway we found a pu. Where we had really nice fish and chips. Because of the rain it was crowded and Almost every table had at least one dog with the people. Some dogs very well behaved, others barking st other dogs and people. The tables were well spaced out though. I managed to buy a pull on (not zipped) fleece top and a long sleeved T shirt. We then returned to the apartment to read. We could just about see the lake through the gloom from the apartment today.

Afternoon All,
Was awake till 3.00am so wasn't up early this morning. It's sunny and 13 degrees here and those suggested temperatures of 17 degrees do seem strange Mandy. I like the sound of the little scrubber you have found and will have a google. It sounds as if it helps with those awkward jobs! I think our front door needs new seals as I keep finding bits of black rubber on the floor.
We are having a last hurrah of F&C today before we cut back on eating after New Year's Day.
As my tooth isn't aching I've decided to risk leaving things till after the New Year. If I go before and there are any problems after ( he talked about the possibility of extraction at my last appointment!) the dentist surgery will close tomorrow till next Wednesday and I would be stuck! :-S
OH has set his hernia off with lifting heavy books out of a cupboard this morning, so he will be resting it doing paperwork next I suspect. He needs to do his tax return anyway.
That's a nuisance Mel. I wonder why you can't do your OH's on line. Our surgery won't accept phoning for prescriptions so we have to post a request through their letterbox.
I'd better get the plates ready as the driver is on his way with the F&C. BBL :-)

Morning all,
We've had a little drizzle this morning but it's now brightened up and its quite windy out . It's showing 12 degrees at the moment but could get to 17 what strange weather for the end of December .
I've been giving the shower a birthday I got a handy little scrubber from wilko It's really for the kitchen I think but it's working a treat on the glass panels and door in the shower it's called a dishmatic a scourer on a handle that makes it a lot easier to clean the glass as you don't have your hands in the limescale remover ,you can get refill scourer heads too ,it gets in all the ridges . I'm just having a coffee then I'll go up and rinse it all off . We've just ordered a new seal for the bottom of the door as the other had got brittle.
Hope those that have aches and pains are feeling a little better today .

I haven't visited the Lake District as much as you AnnG, but did stay near Kendal one year, remember going across Windermere by boat and visiting Ullswater. We stayed near Bassenthwaite once and did some lovely, but scary, drives through the mountains with the fantastic scenery. It is a lovely area.

Evening All,
We woke up late again, but we had some sunshine today which was a nice change. Shower and hairwash next and then had chicken breasts with stuffing and veg for lunch. OH has covered the dining table getting his work stuff again, but at least he keeps it neat and tidy. I have been doing more of my painting and hope to finish it by the weekend.
I hope Island had a good sleep, unlike you with your poor back Vera! It sounds like you are doing all the right things to help it so I suppose you will have to sit it out for a few days. (sorry!) It's good your OH is looking after you and keeping you supplied with food drinks and doing some jobs. Mine would fetch and carry but wouldn't think to do any jobs! It was just a matter of time before your vulnerable neighbour got covid wasn't it. I hope his wife doesn't catch it from him.
I see you are packed, installed and unpacked for the next week AnnG. Will you come home from there as you would be some distance south of your daughter's now I would think. It's good the food delivery arrived ok, even if minus the Gin. They are already saying there could be empty shelves in the supermarkets in January, but if they are right, I think toilet rolls will disappear before Gin!
I wonder what that deer was eating near the Magnolia Mel? It's a wonder you have anything left.
I usually do a jigsaw too Mandy, but I never got round to doing last year's so can do that this time. It has dogs on I think. Thanks for mentioning those progs. I think we saw Downton at the cinema, but I don't mind seeing it again.
Well after over a fortnight of Mr O being home without his big van, it has turned up again this afternoon, so maybe they needed it where he works or it has been in for repair or something. He has been going out over Christmas so it's unlikely he had covid.
I was amazed to read how many people hardly bother to wash their facemasks at all often. We drop ours in a bowl of boiling water after going out.
