Mel Fairy Godmother Report 4 Jun 2026 21:29

Backfrom Stu's but there's a cold wind out which is very unpleasent. Its more like winter than June.

I did pick a good handfull of strawberries today and thin I will have them now I'm home with a little vanilla sugar and a touch of cream. We had chilli at Stu's tonight and it was very nice, not too hot. Marie and Bram were there as well so four of us sat down to dinner together.

I have a telescopic window cleaner gadget I use for outside but I have never thought to use it on the kitchen window over the sink as being short I find that hard to do and I'm not very good on the steps now with knees and hips and being on my own I don't like climbing on things in case I fall. I shall try that tomorrow as the windows need a good clean as when the sun shines it shows up the dirty windows. I need to go around with the cob web brush too and suck up the spiders. I wonder where Cob Webs got their name from???????

Evening All,

We've had a dry sunny day here and no rain. I forgot to say yesterday that the Magpie had been in the conservatory again and had found an unopened polythene bag of sunflower seeds and managed to break into it with his beak and make a mess with them. They were underneath one of the seats and I've no idea which of us put them there.

Today the rheumatology nurse rang OH. We didn't know when to expect the call as he had been told 9.00am to 5.00pm by text and 3.00pm by the receptionist. Luckily the nurse rang this morning which meant we weren't stuck at home waiting all day and she had his letter he had left at reception with her. She was very good and said a reaction like he had was incredibly rare and no wonder he was worried. He told her how he sneezes if he looks at the sun and how he gets rashes on his legs and body if the sun gets on him and she noted it all down. They will arrange for the rest of his treatment pens to be collected as she confirmed he mustn't use anymore and she wants him to just be feeling well again before they try him with something else. She said it could have been the drug or the filler they use that caused the reaction. She wanted him to get a blood sample done, so after phoning the surgery he had half an hour to get there and the sample taken as they would all be collected then. Just after he'd set off the phone rang just as I had a mouthfull of toothpaste cleaning my teeth. I thought it might be him so got to the phone only to find it was a scam. Isn't it annoying!

We decided to have a fish finger sandwich with salad at Ullesthorpe Court at lunchtime as OH could drop me at the door there to save my back and knees which are slowly getting better. We'd just ordered when blow me they came and told us there would be a fire drill shortly and everyone would have to go outside and up to the carpark!! She said it would only be two minutes before we could go back in but our fire alarm practices at work took over half an hour as the fire brigade would come and every inch of the building would have to be searched. I told her I'd hurt my back and my knees weren't good for standing for long and she decided we could go through the side door and sit under the gazebo on the decking. Our tea was cold by the time we went back inside, so we were given a complimentary coffee, but then we were given the wrong food and had to wait more time while ours was prepare!! We were hoping to be quick as well, as we were expecting a couple of deliveries at home. On the way home OH stopped to get me a paper and ended up going to three shops before he found one with a copy left.

I've sprayed some nasty weeds this afternoon till my back started to twinge, then phoned about the front door sticking as it is still under warranty. I was told to phone another number now it is over a year old and that number said the phone was only manned till 3.00pm so I need to phone tomorrow! Now why didn't the first person tell me that? I've booked an appointment at the docs about the next step with my ankles, started looking at laptops similar to mine at Curry's online and done some washing.

That wasn't nice in the heat in the Post Office Mandy. I can't stand it and would have been thinking I would have to get out soon as well, as it does make you feel bad.

It's a shame the show has been cancelled Mel. Few have been held here for ages as well and like you I have things I wanted to enter and I haven't signed paintings here the last few years too as you can't show signatures. I thought when they rebuilt the council offices where they used to hold a good show, they would start again as it has more room, but no. I don't know whether less people are interested in doing crafts or it's the cost of holding the events.

AnnG it is a shame you have had drizzle but good it cleared up and has been sunny. The ferry trip would be nice in the sunshine too. I remember going on a boat trip on Windermere years ago. Lakeland is always worth a look round and you got the useful thing to do your kitchen window too. I bought a similar telescopic thing online to do the inside of my car windscreen, but never thought to use it on the kitchen window, so thank you for giving me the idea.

Afternoon all,

Shopping all done and we managed to get it all in from the car just as the rain shower started ,my goodness it just fell from the sky ,it didn't last long and the sun was soon back out and that's how it's been since we got home .
We tried to park at the post office but the few parking spaces they have were full so I managed to park in the town ,I walked into the post office and there was a queue so I stood there for ages as the two windows open had people with queries and they took ages ,it was like an oven in there everyone was fanning themselves ,I nearly walked out as it makes you feel bad but the queue began moving so I hung on .

Anyway Mel the parcel is on its way and I've popped in a few other bits I thought you might like, when I saw them I thought of you and so I had to make them .

After the post office I went to boots for our tablets and I think the computers at ths counter were down as he had to go to the back of the pharmacy to check if they were ready ,pick them out of the boxes and then go to the back of the shop again to check them again so that took a while but at least they had air conditioning so i cooled off a bit while waiting .

It is still drizzly but the sun is sort of breaking through and we can see the lake again. We have been to Lakeland, good that today it was a shorter journey as the ferry was open so we used that both ways. We had coffe and cake, lemon drizzle for me and it was really nice and lemony. Then bought quite a few things. One thing I needed was a telescopic window cleaning tool, not very long but what I need for the kitchen windows to reach across the sink unit etc.

Just starting to spit and spot here as Bridget came with the news letter. We had a chat on the doorstep and she went as the rain started. Came in and read the first page of the news letter and they have cancelled the flower show this year because the Shebbear Village hall is out of action due to to roof. Its been a long while since this leak started I wold have thought something would have been done to it by now.

I was going to put my witches cottage in this year but now thats gone out of the window. Another social event I'm going to miss. Good news is there is a cream tea in the village hall on 2nd August. That to look forward to and that was our aniversary and my dads birthday.

Still raining and not that warm. I do feel sorry for people who have not been here before or who have come up after a couple of lovely weeks at home expecting to do long walks etc. this weather does mask the views. But it will be filling the lakes and everywhere is beautifully green.

Luckily we have wet weather places but will be running out of them soon. Just hope it is raining at home on y garden.

It rained all day but here at 6pm the sun is shining. Driving up the drive coming back from our tea there were baby and slightly bigger rabbits all over the lawns.
We were supposed to go over the lake via the car ferry but unfortunately when we got to the ferry it was closed because of strong winds so we had a forty minute drive instead,

Afternoon All,

We had a bit of fine rain early this morning but it is, dry, sunny and breezy now. I managed better getting in bed and by hanging onto the sink and side of the bath, and raising each leg slowly I managed to get in and have a shower and hair wash. I could use the ensuite shower, but trying to wipe two showers wouldn't help matters either. I decided to try my car and wouldn't let OH come with me to the shop, as I felt I would be ok, so he got me to drop him off in the village to get something he wanted and said he would walk back being as the rain had stopped and he needed to do a walk.

It will be lovely to catch up with your granddaughter Vera and hear how she is getting on. I wonder what sort of costumes she wears? I do admire her confidence to go and do these things in another country.

AnnG it sounds like some pet bunnies have escaped to the wild life and bred with you seeing a brown and white one and a black one! I hope the weather stays fine for your trip today, but as you rightly say, there are plenty of places to go and see or eat anyway.

Mel, the obvious answer would be to have a fortnightly delivery from Asda like I do, but you don't seem to want to do that. The alternative, and what I do sometimes is add things like notepads, pens, baking tins, kitchen foil or rolls or a big pack of toilet rolls. It's good that stopping the ciggies mean the night time wheezing has stopped and means you are sleeping better. You did well to raise the baby goats. What breed were they? It seems your mum didn't fancy having any escape artist goats around!

Mandy you are doing well with your garden again and will soon be having cues, runners and toms ready to eat. We are like you and like no fuss or anniversary dos other than a nice meal together.

I've come across a photo of a cousin's wedding. She is the daughter of the only sibling my mother kept in touch with. ( she had 9 siblings, but 1 died in childhood). I had only ever met the cousin a few times before the wedding and had never been to a wedding before, didn't attend the rehearsal as we lived over 50 miles away, so it was all a bit new to me. My cousin had asked I, my sister and little brother to be bridesmaids and page boy and she had two other girls about my age to be bridesmaids too. I remember worrying whether the long, blue satin dress would fit ok as with the distance I didn't get chance to try it on till the day but it fit fine. I remember it was a buffet afterwards and a nice young man called Ivan was next to me and asked if he could sit and chat to me, so we moved away from the boring parent chat to sit and talk. I remember looking up and my father was looking across glaring at me and red in the face and my mother noticed and managed to stop him making a scene because I was talking to a boy. I was aged 19 !!!!. When we drove home my parents couldn't find the door key, so I had to unpeg my pair of jeans drying on the line and put them on in the outside toilet. The little top window of my brother's bedroom was open a little, so dad got the double ladder propped up the wall and I shinned up it and managed to hold the top of the ladder with my left hand and reach up the glass to hold the bottom bar of the top window and then stand up (notlooking down!) lift the small window pane up above my head and poke my head and shoulders through and slither inside. My aunt used to write to mum and soon told her that Ivan was very taken with me and wanted to go out with me. Of course that could never be if my father got to know, and I had started meeting my first husband secretly by then. I'll send the pic with me as a bridesmaid.

Sorry about the long post................ :-0

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 3 Jun 2026 14:41

Still get out of breath walking far. Mainly because of the hips and knees. I used to buy my baccy once a fortnight so on a week I needed it and it cost £30 odd poundI could only have a small amount of essentials which worked out well. Now I still have to have the forty pounds worth of shopping when I don't always need it as the cupboards are full and so is the freezer.

Afternoon all,

We've had a few showers and some sunshine and it's a bit cooler today, waiting for the benches to come so don't feel as if we can get on with anything .
Did some ironing ,Colin hoovered through and did a bit of washing which I did get dry before the showers started .

Hope you enjoy your afternoon tea by the lake and it keeps dry for you Anng .

Mel you must have saved some money as those presents would have been on top of your normal shop ,that's good too that your breathing is better .

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 3 Jun 2026 10:29

But isn’t the shopping the same as when you smoked? And if you are buying gifts in with the shopping that is what you have saved from the money you would have spent on cigarettes. You may not have piles of cash but you have still saved money.

It is raining here today but we knew it was going to as it was forecast before we came.

Morning Anng and all,

Grey and miserable here and a bit windy too and its been raining in the night.

Had a strange dream but can't remember it, I find that so annoying.

Nothing planned for the day but I may a bit of HW. I have some ironing to do as well.

As to your questions Anng no to both parts. Not saved any money as I have to have £40 on the shopping or I don't get it delivered but I try and buy things for Christmas presents or Stu's cider and have a meat week. As to the breathing I don't wheeze when I lie in bed at night which I always did when I smoked and it kept me awake, O thats broken my dream!!! I dreamt I had a puff and someone called so I had to put it out.

Good morning all, no idea of the temp but it is dry but heavy cloud. This afternoon we have afternoon tea booked by the lake just outside Bowness at 2.30 so will stay here reading etc until time to go.

Enjoy time with Granddaughter Vera it will be good for you all to see her..

Mel I should have said well done on not smoking for all that time. Have you saved the money it would have cost you? Does your breathing feel any easier for not smoking?

Just seen two baby rabbits running around I. Front of the house, one all black and one brown and white.

I didn’t manage to get back earlier and I’ve only just got back from the Ladies Club. I’m quite tired now so will be going to bed shortly. Just wanted to say congratulations to AnnG on the new arrival and of course congratulations to the new parents. I hope Mum and babe are doing well. Ann, granddaughter is over from Hong Kong for just a few days. She’s staying at son’s Wednesday to Friday so we and our daughter are going to see her there.

Mel, you have done brilliantly with not smoking. You deserve a medal.

Eyes are drooping now so I will say goodnight.

ITS GOT CHILLY HERE TONIGHT. i WAS OUT IN THE GARDEN DOWN AT THE SHED FOR AN HOUR OR SO. Sorry did'nt mean to shout must have hit the cap lock by mistake and I have cut my fingernails today too.

The squirrel or the bird are eating my strawberries even while they are still white. Iv'e been backwards and forwards with a couple of pots at a time and put most of them in the little greenhouse. I'm hoping they will be over by the time my tom plants get big.

Robby came and fed at the shed while I was in there today. He had two lots of mealworms and a lot of pink fat sticks, pellets whatever you'd like to call them. He's not touching the sunflower kernels at the mo.

MillymollyAmanda Report 2 Jun 2026 19:09

Some of you asked if we're going to have a celebration on Friday, no were not ones for big do's lol we are having the family here on Saturday for a nice Chinese meal .

Still waiting for these blessed benches to come DHL have them and I now have tracking ,the lady I spoke to again said they should be here by Wednesday and she apologised again saying the courier had had some problems after the bank holiday , so we went out today for a few bits of shopping and then tomorrow we'll be here in case they come but I'm not holding my breath .
