Mel Fairy Godmother Report 5 Nov 2022 17:13

Sound like it was an interesting day then with friends and lots to see and do. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

BIL came again today and has started clearing up oh's garage workshop. Some bit for the recykling and some for the dump but he takes that back to work with him and gets rid of it there which is good. At least you can walk in there now.

Wind dropped here and I am sure it drops when the tide turns.

Put washing in the machine this morning and charged it up and forgot to turn it on with BIL arriving so it willhave to wait till later now and I must do it as the plumber is coming tomorrow.

BIL was very interested in the Fieldfares in the orchard today and took lots of pics and then just as I was going to wash the dishes from lunch the Long Tailed Tits arrived so he took pics of those too and the Marsh Tits.

Notes for Forties November 2022-11-05

I was picked up at 0850 by my friend Barbara and we then picked up another friend. We drove to the Park and Ride and were soon in Cheltenham Town centre. The P&R cost us £1 each. First stop was M&S for a coffee where we sat chatting until it was time to walk to the Victorian house that was the birthplace of Gustavus Theodore von Holst; 21 September 1874 – 25 May 1934, probably best known for being the composer of The Planet suite. From which we also get I Vow to Thee My Country. Two rooms were devoted to Holst and his works with his piano as the centre piece and his gramophone as well.

The house is a museum in its own right with many Victorian
memorabilia to be seen in each room, these houses were tall and narrow and this one has four flights of stairs with the nursery and nanny’s room right at the top. There were six of us in our group and we were allowed to go round on our own and take as long as we wanted. There was only one other couple there while we were there.

It is not large but is crammed with interesting things to say and information to read. We all really enjoyed it.

When we came out we headed back to town and found a small Italian restaurant where I had Penne Au Pesto which was excellent with garlic bread, and I could not eat it all. After lunch we went to M&S for a quick look round, it is so much bigger and better than the Gloucester one. I bought a pair of trousers. On then to catch the Park and Ride bus back and then home. Got home at 3.30. A long but very pleasant day in great company.

O I meant to say that I thought that the bird pic was a Kestral. we have one that sits in the top of the trees out the back. As you can see it is in lovely condition. Suppose its been feeding on my little birds I feed each day. There dos'nt seem so many of them at the mo.

Morning Anng and all,

Dull and miserable here this morning and 10 degrees and pc says cloudy. It was quite a pleasent day yesterday even though the breeze was on the chilly side.

Enjoy your day out Anng and I hope you don't get too exhausted with all the stairs.

Looking back on the posts this morning it seems funny to me that Anng has thanked me for the pics before I even sent the message saying I had sent some ??? Weird or what?

Hope everyone slept well as I did. I was so tired I hardly remember getting into bed so I must have gone straight off.

good morning all. still dark but it is 7 degrees so not too bad. I am up early as I have to be out of the house ready for a lift by 0855. today we are going to Cheltenham, not far but need to get the Park and ride then a short walk to the Holst museum where we have a tour booked. I did go there about 15 years ago but really don't remember a lot about it except there are I think three or four flights of stairs. then we need to find somewhere for lunch, six of us going and, being Saturday the town will be busy. At least it beats staying home all day.

Glad you have finally tested negative Vera, that was a long time to be positive. Still it sounds as though you have a bit of your energy back which is good.

How is the sciatica Island, hope it is better now.

Mandy, that is good that you are able to do a bit more with your hands. Hopefully things will gradually get better for you, it must be very frustrating.

Thanks for the pics Mel. That was a big bird to hit your patio doors. It must have made a heck of a bang. I’m glad it was able to fly away. Lovely rainbow too.

You are doing well with your wrists Mandy. Just be careful with twisting and turning them.

You’re getting on well with your Christmas shopping AnnG. So far I’ve got something for OH and a joint pressie for son and dil but that’s it. Son’s birthday is December as well so I have to think of something to get for that.

I hope your sciatica is improving and not giving you too much pain Island.

We both had a second negative test today so I feel happier about going out and mixing again now. It was a lovely bright day but there was a really cold wind. We ventured into town, got a new battery in my phone, collected my meds, went to the Bank and popped into Waitrose. There was quite a lot of walking around and I’d had enough by the time we got home.

It’s supposed to drop to 2 degrees tonight so I brought into the conservatory half a dozen plants OH had lifted and potted up and moved all my potted up geraniums into my mini greenhouse and OH covered all my big pots of agapanthus with fleece. The problem is that after tonight it’s supposed to get warmer again so I don’t know whether to put everything out again tomorrow or not.

There have been fireworks going somewhere close by for about an hour now but I can’t see anything. I expect there’ll be plenty tomorrow.

Leccy man phoned today and said he would come on Sunday to fit the shower and guess what the price has gone up ÂŁ30 now to ÂŁ160. He will have to do the kitchen rad for me too as its only heating up about 6 inches on the right hand side and the top. While I have him here he can see if he can find the leak in the little loo as I can hear water squirting out somewhere and the tap in there needs a new washer as if I turn it off hard so it dos'nt drip I have a job to turn it back on again.

Mandy it sounds like your wrists are improving well now if you can press the pegs together no. Still take it easy though and be careful how much you do.

Hope Island is not in so much pain today too.

sudden decision by my friend to go to Dobbies which was good as I had my two free drinks to use. So we had a cuppa and a chat and then a wander round got a couple of bits for Christmas presents and found a lovely little three foot tree which is what I wanted. And the bonus was, instead of being ÂŁ49 it was ÂŁ39 as it was a 20% off everything day.

Afternoon all,

Nice sunny day but a bit nippy out as there was a bit of a blow I did hang some washing out ,got it in now as there's not much dry out after lunch .
I can now squeeze the pegs and I have had the splints off when I'm sitting down but the wrists are still a bit tender when I try and turn my wrists but the excersises are helping .

Mel I hope your man has turned up to do the shower ,you must miss it as I know when I had my shower after my stitches came out it was heaven to get under the water again.
That naughty Otter getting the fish I hope he's not been back for any more .

Hope Ann's OK I expect she's been busy ,I miss her posts .

Anng sounds like you enjoyed your trip out and you managed to get a bit of christmas shopping in too ,I'm so behind with shopping for Christmas it will be a while before I can get out to do any .

Looks like the weekend is going to be a wet one not that we're going anywhere but it makes you feel better when the suns shining .

Good morning all. I slept really well last night, about 8 hours all together. Obviously I used a lot of physical and brain energy during the day.

Vera, the film was at our very small cinema in Gloucester so hopefully it will come to yours. I didn't see anything about the controversy but I can see why it arose. People have to not go thinking 'oh this is a true story'. But more it is a story based on something that actually happened. and just take the main facts. If the University did behave as portrayed it would not be good. But I suspect there is, as often is, a grain of truth in it. But just a grain. I would not say it was a great film but it is an interesting one. Bits I enjoyed, bits I didn't.

I knew Daff quite well, she came here a couple of times for lunch, once with her husband once on her own. and we also met up several more times, went shopping in Cheltenham and, like Gwyn met her in Wales a few times, once at her house. OH liked her as well. It was very sad when she died. such a horrible disease.
I was always going to meet Sharron in Cheltenham as she came to the area sometimes, but that, sadly, didn't happen.

I don't think we will hear from Gill again. I just hope she is OK.

Oh yes, if you choose not to tell us the date Island A Happy Birthday for November.

Morning All,

Bright and sunny out the back and grey and raining in the front and we,ve had a rainbow.

It s 9 degrees and says cloudy so I am not expecting a good day for any gardening.

I wonder if the leccy man will ever come back or do I just go ahead and see if I can get someone else.

Hope you all slept well.

Right time for a cuppa.

I’m glad you enjoyed your day out and the film AnnG. I think there’s been a bit of controversy over it and at one time there was a possibility that there would be legal action against the filmmakers over their portrayal of Richard Taylor and the part played by Leicester University. I would still like to see it. I missed it at the cinema but it might get screened at our tiny local theatre so I’ll keep an eye out.

November isn’t a brilliant month is it? So many thoughts of people who are no longer with us. I didn’t really know Daff but I miss Sharron. She had planned to come to Ipswich and I was going to meet her but we never arranged a date and then it was too late. I do regret that.

Gill’s birthday is November as well. It would be good to know how she and her family are doing now but I don’t think she will be back.

In case you choose not to tell us when your birthday is Island, I’ll wish you Happy Birthday now.

What a horrible 24 hours it has been. It started raining yesterday evening and didn’t stop till this afternoon. At 6 am it was hammering down on the skylight in my en-suite and sounded as though it was in the room with me. It’s been dry this afternoon but very grey and gloomy and quite cold.

I had one of those completely sleepless nights and couldn’t get myself motivated to do anything much today. I didn’t even want to make the effort to eat earlier though I managed most of my meal tonight. On the bright side we have both tested negative today :-D. So it has been 11 or 12 days for OH and 14 days for me. I am still coughing and feel completely drained but at least I know that I am on the mend now. OH sounds a bit croaky but otherwise is OK.

I’m going to get myself ready for bed now as I’ve got some catching up on sleep to do. I hope you all sleep well.

Are you going to tell us the date Island?.

Gwyn oh what a horrid month November is them. I had forgotten it was Daff’s memory month. I think of her a lot. And Sharron another one much missed. It is horrid to think how many friends we have lost since GR started as Genes Connections.

I am not long in from Gloucester. Managed to get a few small presents then we met up and had lunch in M&S only toasties and wraps etc on the menu it doing meals at the moment not sure why. I had a rather tasty Turkey and bacon toastie. Then we saw the film of the lost king. It was very good, I enjoyed it, how Philippa ? Fought to find the body of Richard111. It is, of course based on the try story. Annx if you are reading this, you would like it of course as it is situated mainly in Leicester. Got home at 4.15. It was a good day.

Afternoon all.

OH's birthday was November too, also my Mum's.
My grandfather ( her F-i-L ) died on her birthday :-(
... Last November we heard of the sudden death of Sharron, who posted on these boards and it is Daff's anniversary month too,so it is quite a month of memories.

Such a grim day here.
It rained and rained.....and then rained some more.
Some areas have flooding, as there has been over a month's rain in the last 24 hours.
We are OK, as we are not near any water course, but there is a lot of surface water on some streets though.
I managed to get to school and back in the dry though. I walk and although it's not far, I would have been drenched if caught out in it.
