Good morning all, that week went quickly, all packed and ready to head off back to Workington. Stopping at Keswick on the way for food for when we get back. Quite chilly here but dry and bright.

That's an idea Mel! I have some plastic beads I no longer use that were cheap to start me off with beading that I could use. I'll have to root through and see what I can find.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 5 Jun 2026 20:23

Annx you'll have to try a beaded curtain for the conservatory to stop that pesky Magpie coming in. I have the hoover at the front door with one of those big furry hats on the handle but I think the Raven is use to that now.

Thanks for the pic from Anng and what a view as Mandy said will be lovely through the seasons. It must have some by a different driver from Evri or some such delivery as all the posties know to come down here. Thing is there's no sign saying the gardens up there so someone new would'nt know I was down here.

I am chancing a meat pie, new pots (Jersey Royals) and broccoli tonight. Last nights weird chilli did'nt affect me at all now I am back on the pills.

Thank you Ann , I can't remember the last time we had breakfast in bed ,when we had our meal tonight Colin said can you remember what we had for our first meal on our first night of our honeymoon , I said I can't remember having a meal that night :-0 :-D
Son and dil bought us some new lights for the garden and some nice chocolates .

Thank you Ann for passing on Anng photo ,what a view and the lovely colouring of the shrubs in the garden to the darker trees in the distance , certainly a lovely view to wake up too each morning .

That was a bit naughty of the postman leaving the parcel with your neighbour, perhaps he couldn't be bothered to come down your drive Mel , do you have the same chap all the while or different posties .

Evening All,

<3 <3HAPPY ANNIVERSARY <3 <3 < to Mandy and Colin! I hope you have had a nice restful day and that it's been sunny for you like it has here. You are right about OH being wary of the next treatment they will try and even the nurse said she didn't blame him.

I think we are due a really wet day on Monday. I far prefer this cooler weather as I feel much better and get far more done.

We had a nice slow start to the day as OH made us both toast and coffee which we had in bed! After a shower we went to the garden centre that's air conditioned in the cafe and decided to have tuna jackets there, before I chose some geraniums. They were a decent size and were 3 for £10 so I got 6 of them, 3 a deep pink and 3 orange. Planting will be a job for in the morning. I can plant my other plants I want to put around them as well then.

I'm hoping there's nothing left in the conservatory to interest the Magpie now! lol. He's really cheeky and sits on the wall pot next to the patio door and cranes his neck to look at us through the glass!

I bet that was a nice surprise for you from Mandy Mel! I'm surprised you didn't know your parcel was with a neighbour though as our postman leaves a card through the door with where he's taken it to if he can't deliver. I was looking up the word 'cob' in my Susie Dent book of curious words, as there were cottages near my grandmother's house called Cob Cottages. Then there are Cobnuts of course. Seems different to the cob in cobweb though.

Vera it sounds like your granddaughter is ready to come home now and will be glad to return once she's finished the shows. It's a long time to be away. It's nice she will have been able to see you all before she goes back though.

AnnG that is a beautiful view from your bedroom. Imagine waking up to that through the changing seasons......wonderful! It's a shame the weather hasn't been as good as you hoped, but at least you've been out and about and had some nice meals up to now.

I had a message that my parcel was delivered at 12.26pm so I went outside and nothing was there. I got a email saying it was delivered and give feedback so I answered that I had not received it and I was in all the time.

Went up my neighbours with her tom plants and others and my other neighbour was there and she said to me I have a parcel for you!!!!!!!!!! It was the things they said were delivered to me. Now why leave them two doors away?????????? Its just as well I saw Hazel when I dropped the plants in to Janine.

Afternoon all,

Thank you all for the anniversary wishes we're just having a quiet day , it's fifty years now as we were married at 12 o'clock, the weather was lovely and sunny .

Today is nice and sunny but there's an awful lot of black clouds about

Oh Mel that was quick ,I didn't think you would get it until at least Monday well done royal mail , when I saw the chicken coasters I thought Mel would like them to stand her coffee cup on ,and then I saw the chicken keyring and thought I'd make one of those too .

Ann that naughty old magpie, he'll be back for another feed if you don't watch out lol
That's good they are making sure OH is feeling better before they try another lot of injections ,he's going to be very weary of trying something else after that reaction isn't he.
That's just your luck they did a fire drill just as you got there and had ordered but at least you didn't have your food on the table ,but not good you then got the wrong food, the fire drill must have upset the system.

They have arrived Mandy and thank you so much for the little extras, they made me giggle.

Sun and showers this morning.

Those baby rabbits have been on the rockery and eaten off all my campanular flowers and leaves. They also ate off the blue flowers and the stalk so thats now on the patio to recover and we'll see if I get any late flowers from it. I am just hoping its not the white one as that was the only white. I can't remember the name of the blue flower but it comes in blue white and pink. I had the blue then one of the seedlings came up as a white. It is a perennial and had sort of silvery leaves.

Happy anniversary Mandy. Enjoy your special day.

Good morning all. Quite bright here since early but starting to cloud over now. It definitely feels colder but at least it is still dry. All being well we aim to go to Ambleside today, it will have been a week of shops and garden centres and a shame the weather has been against going to our favourite hills and tarns.

Good evening all

Son and dil have taken granddaughter and boyfriend to a town a few miles away to catch a late night train back to Manchester. Boyfriend’s parents are flying from Belfast tomorrow to see her so they have to get back tonight. It’s been so lovely to see her and talk about her life in HK. She wants to be home now and look for work in this country but has another four and a half months of her contract to run. We were both nearly in tears saying goodbye again.

It’s been chilly all day with some heavy showers. We’ll be going back home some time tomorrow.

I had to look it up!!

The term "cobweb" comes from medieval England and means "spiderweb". It originates from the Middle English word coppewebbe. The word breaks down into two parts:"Cob": An old, obsolete word for spider derived from the Old English coppe (or attercoppe), which translates to "poison-head"."Web": Simply the netting woven by the spider. The Difference Between "Spiderweb" and "Cobweb"Today, the terms are often used interchangeably, but colloquially:Spiderweb: Typically refers to a clean, active, symmetrical web.Cobweb: Typically refers to a tangled, three-dimensional web that has been abandoned and has collected dust or debris in a hidden corner.
