That sounds interesting era, it would be just up our groups' street. enjoy it. Is it likely to be dusty? If so should you have a pair of safety googles handy or maybe your sunglasses would surfice.
Good that your eye feels better today. I am sure the injections work differently on different people depending on the reason for having them. And maybe the dosage is different.

That's a lovely special memory AnnG, one to cherish.
I'm not brave at all when it comes to the eye injections. If I don't have them I will lose my sight so it's Hobson's Choice really. Faced with that choice I am sure you would opt to have the jabs as well. Loads of people have them but it's mostly for macular degeneration and they don't seem to suffer more than a bit of soreness. One chap I know has his injection and then hops on a bus for the 20 mile trip home. I wouldn't even be able to safely cross the road to the bus stop on my own. I think we have the same injection but maybe it has a different effect on me as it's given for a different reason (retinal vein occlusion).
EDIT: Mandy, if you get more rain could you please send some this way. We are desperate. It's still 25 degrees with hardly a cloud in the sky and no rain forecast for the foreseeable.
Anyway it is a lot better today. The eye is still sore and feels as though there is a large lump of something stuck in the corner but I can open it normally and get on and do a few small jobs.
The next thing I have to do is go and post a letter to my cousin who has sadly lost her husband this week. It wasn't unexpected but somehow it is still a shock.
Tomorrow morning we are going on a hard-hat tour of the restoration work at the big church in the middle of town. It closed as a church in the 1970s but the building has been in constant use since then. The Churches Conservation Trust has spent the last 3 or 4 years on a big restoration project and it will reopen in the autumn. On Saturday they are doing 4 tours at different times but the numbers have to be limited. All our friends and people from the local clubs we belong to applied for tickets but they went almost immediately and none of them were lucky. I guessed they would be like gold dust so applied the minute the applications opened and managed to get two tickets for the first tour at 10 am. It is free but safety issues mean they can only take a few people round at a time. I'm looking forward to it.

Love at first sight Mandy, I think we were a bit young for that at 15 and 17 but it was certainly long lasting.

Afternoon all,
Cloudy here today and very muggy ,I took ages to get to sleep last night it was so warm,we had had very heavy rain in the afternoon with thunder and lightning and I had to close the big windows in the bedrooms so they didn't have the nice air blowing through to cool them before bedtime.
Vera I think your so brave to go through those injections in your eye it makes my toes curl and eyes water just thinking about it . I hope the pain and redness is easing a bit now for you .
I just wrapped Laceys birthday presents ready for Sunday she will be eleven ,I got her some clothes and we always put a little money in the card .
A happy memory Anng was it love at first sight.
Oh Mel nothing worse than someone with bad breath, that's when the face masks came in handy , not many people wearing face masks now though.

Morning Anng and all,
Its turned a bit grey here since I was up early for the loo. Its 18 degrees and pc says mostly cloudy.
I wonder if BIL will come today? The grass still has'nt grown much but there is plenty of other things that could be done.I do wish he would ring and let me know but he has always been the same even when he came round to see oh.
Anng thats a lovely memory to have and the day before Midsummers day. That reminds me its Di's birthday tomorrow so I have to do her present up.
Vera I do hope your poor eye is a bit better today. Its so horrid anything to do with the eyes and if you have the smallest bit of something in them it always feels like a boulder. I expect the gritty feeling is where the needle went in. You are very brave as its something I done think I could have done at all. My mum did but she refused to go anymore after a few times it so upset her.
I have two parcels to do up for thigs sold once again on ebay so I better get myself into gear. Arms a bit better today till I start using it or lifting things.

Good morning all already 18 degrees here and dry and bright, no more rain since the downpour on Tuesday. I woke at 0515 and then went back to sleep and woke at 0815 so now all behind.
Vera I do hope that your eye has cleared a bit more today that sounds really painful and frightening.
One of my nostalgia memory days today 67 years ago I started going out with my lovely T. <3 <3

I'm glad you are getting something done about your arm Mel. The physio should help. You got a quick appointment - round here you sometimes have to wait weeks.
I hope your strained side is easier today Mandy. Rest up for a couple of days. Like AnnG says every time I move lately I develop an ache in another muscle that I didn't even know I had.
It's not been a good couple of days for me. I always have a fair bit of pain for a couple of days after an injection and also a variety of odd symptoms but it is bearable and I manage OK. Yesterday was something else. I didn't have my usual lady who is wonderful but the lady I had was very pleasant and she did make sure I had enough anaesthetic in my eye not to feel the needle this time. However, by the time I got home I didn't know what to do with myself. The pain in and around my eye was horrendous and I couldn't open it for about 10 hours which meant all I could do was lay on the bed and listen to the radio. It also watered non-stop but I couldn't risk touching it with my fingers or even something like a hankie. I ended up constantly having to dab gently at it with a clean tissue so I got through best part of a box of tissues. When I eventually managed to open my eye I could see it was badly bloodshot and all round the eye it was red and puffy. I haven't had that before.
If it hadn't improved I would have rung the hospital but it is a lot better today. I'm still getting stabbing pains and I can't see very well and it feels as though there is something in my eye all the time but I felt well enough to meet some of the "gang" for coffee this morning, even if I did have to sit in the cafe in dark glasses. A bit of chit chat cheered me up.
The doctor said he wanted to check me again 6 weeks after this injection and today the hospital sent me the appointment. I had to laugh. It's six weeks to the minute from yesterday's injection.
We've had no more rain since the little bit we had a couple of days ago and there is none forecast. It is so hot and humid, still 21 degrees here; I think it is going to be a sticky, sleepless night. At least now I can open my eye I might be able to manage to read if I can't sleep. I hope you all get a good night's rest.
EDIT: I've just thought - the upside of having a closed eye yesterday and not being able to see all that clearly today is that I can't see the colour of the gate just painted., lol

Morning Anng and all,
Pc can't make up its mind about the weather this morning as first it said 20 degrees and now as I type it says 17 degrees and fog.
Yes Anng it was quite garlicy or some foreign foody smell and it was awful and he should have known better if he was on duty. I felt like offering him a mint!!
I must ring the plumber this morning as he still has BIL's two sets of wheely things he brought to move the lathe with. Plumber borrowed them to move old fashion iron rads but he has had them about three weeks at least now.
Thats it as the arm is starting to niggle.

Good morning all. already 16 degrees here and no more rain since Tuesday so back to watering the two gardens again. Trouble is, Cynth puts so many plants in her baskets including lobelia so it is difficult to give then enough water to last.
Nothing planned for today so maybe more gardening. It is hard now as the brown bin is full so I will have to put stuff into a plastic bag until it is emptied.
Oh that was not very nice Mel to have a doctor close to you with smelly breath. He should know better. Was it a strong food smell like garlic? I used to have a dentist who always smelled of garlic.

He just said muscle strain I think. I saw one young man first then he disappeared and came back a while later with a doctor who pulled and pushed me about and said do this do that etc. he suggested I come to the physio on next Wednesday at 2pm. He had the most awful breath and when he spoke to me and was close to me I had to hold my breath.

mandy the older I get the more muscles I find to pull or tweak, there always seems to be one bit or other of me aching. Take it easy today now then
Vera hope all goes well with the injection, a couple of days of taking it easy for you too now.
Mel, please do phone the doctor, it has gone on too long now hasn't it?
I have a meeting and AGM of the U3a this afternoon. the talk is on aviation in Gloucester. I think it depends how good a speaker he is as to whether or not I enjoy it. Still ir is an afternoon out.

Morning girls,
Woke at 5am for the loo and went back to bed and woke again at 9.49am so you could say I have had a good long sleep. Arm still niggling so I think it is phone the doc today as this is getting boring now. It will be two weeks tomorrow. Anng I have even tried the trick of unplugging Echo and plugging her back in again as that works most times. The kitchen lights over the table is the only one that I can't override as I don't know hwere thats connected as the others all have plugs which I cna take out.
Pc says rain to stop but we hav'nt has any and its 15 degrees. Must get some things ready to go on Ebay today. I like to get them on on a Friday as then I have a couple of days to get to the post if they sell.
Good luck to Vera with her eye injection today I do hope this works for her. Sending love and wishes she dos'nt have to wait too long.

Morning all,
Sunny and warm again a few little bubbles of cloud in ths sky . I seem to have pulled my side I think it must have been when I cleaned the window sills upstairs, I leaned out and stretched to do them and now its a bit painful so I'm having an easy day .
Mel i bet the strawberries went down a treat ,the first lot always taste good .
I see they have heard noises in the search for that little sub that was going down to look at the wreak of the Titanic ,how frightening it must be shut in that not knowing if you'll get out ,I hope they soon find them.
Well I see on the news they are all filing into Glastonbury, my goodness there are some contraptions they are using to take all their stuff in, big containers on wheels ,trollies and all sorts ,one had all his stuff wrapped tight in bubble wrap ,that's going to take some getting off .
Vera hope your hospital visit goes OK this morning ,I expect it will be a day or two before you can look in again with having the injection.

good morning all. It is the longest day today (so all downhill from now then :-D). 12 degrees and sunny, no more rain so back to watering tonight I suppose.
Vera, hopefully, as it ages the paint will darken a bit more and you will get used to it too.
Mel I have the same problem with Echo and Alexa. A couple of things still work but T had it on his tablet. we have managed to get into it but not sure what to do then. I usually wait for daughter to check when she is here. The one that turns the water feature on and off seems very tempermental, sometimes it works sometimes not but I can over-ride it manually.

Its good you have te glasses situation sorted Vera. As to the gate if you have thzt horrid paint colour on it why cold'nt oh just buy another tin of ordinary paint as the protective one is under it so should still work. we have had light and heavy rain here and its filled up both ponds a bit so that was good and there must have been enough to do the garden some good too.
My Echo is playing up and won't turn the kitchen light on and I don't know where it is connected as I only have a switch on the wall. Unless its in the loft. I know he used to get his tablet out and fiddle with that but he did'nt show me how to do it or have it on my tablet or phone.
Had ny first picking of strawberries for dinner tonight.

Mandy, apparently OH didn’t want the same paint again as it was waxy and wouldn’t take a second coat very well. It also seemed to get shabby looking very quickly so he wanted to use something that would withstand the weather better. He doesn’t want to keep redoing it. He decided to carry on with the “red” paint and it has toned down quite a lot as it’s dried. I’m not keen on it but I can live with it so we’ll leave it as it is.
Poor little cat. I hope she recovers quickly. The cost doesn’t surprise me. My daughter’s big dog recently slashed her paw and, with dressings and stitchings and redoing it when she pulled the stitches out, it cost well over £2000.
It is very heavy and humid here. I have showered but can’t face using the hair dryer so my hair will have to dry its own sweet way. OH is cooking (i.e. taking a ready meal out of the fridge and putting it in the oven) and apparently he is about to dish up so I’m off to eat now.

Afternoon all
We had some nice steady rain for most of the morning so I won't have to water later .
Oh Vera don't worry if you don't shower we can soon put a peg on our nose ;-) :-D :-D Hope all goes well for you with the next injection and that's good news about your glasses. What paint did you have on the gate /fence could you not have the same again ,it's getting expensive having to keep getting new tins .
One of sons little cats had a nasty cut on her leg so they took her to the vets this morning ,I nearly passed out when he told me how much it was going to be, £300 if it needed just bandaging up ,£500 if it needed washing out and stitching ,good job they are all insured.

Put out the flags! Raise a loud cheer! We have had rain :-D Not a lot, but enough to wet the ground a bit. It had stopped by 10 am. Now the sun is out but it is so humid that I am sweating like mad. I shall shower and wash my hair later as I have an eye injection in the morning and I can't shower for 3 days after that. If it's still as hot and I can't shower OH will have to walk in front of me with a bell shouting Unclean, Unclean, lol.
Fingers crossed I have at last got my glasses sorted. I eventually tracked down the manager who was supposed to be ringing me back to find the poor woman was managing 7 branches and moving around between them while constantly trying to respond to messages to do this or that or ring various people. Anyway, I explained the situation yet again and she said as a non-medical person she couldn't intervene but she would get in touch with a senior optometrist or dispensing optician and get back to me. She rang back in about half an hour and said she had got agreement to go ahead with the lens change without another eye test and had started getting the paperwork processed. All I had to do was get my glasses to the opticians this morning. This I did and they are going off to the lens manufacturers today. It will be a couple of weeks till they are back but at least I can see an end to struggling on without them.
(Had to stop here for a while as Tesco came with a delivery)
OH went out a few minutes ago to put the new paint on the gate. He just made one brush stroke and said you had better come and see this before I do anymore. Omg, it is way too red :-| When these paints are specially mixed for you, you know that the colour won't be exactly as it was on the chart but I didn't expect it to be quite so bright. We can't keep paying out for tins of this expensive paint so we're not sure what to do. I've told OH that he can make the choice of leaving it sludgy pink or turning the whole thing red and I will accept whatever he does - at least for now. Perhaps in a few months we'll have another think.
It was a good talk on Morocco last night, with some interesting slides. This speaker does a lot of travel talks but this is a new one and we were the first group to hear it so we were his guinea pigs. We all agreed it was excellent but a bit long. It was about an hour and a quarter and people do start getting a bit fidgety after about 45 minutes. Luckily, before we said anything the speaker himself said it was too long and he would condense it for the next group.
I still have some shopping to put away and a few other jobs to do so I had better get on. I want to get ahead a bit as I know I won't be able to do much tomorrow.
