Mel Fairy Godmother Report 4 Aug 2023 20:03

Had a bad afternoon. I went down the shop for my scripts and they still were.nt there so I went own the doc but by this time it was nearly 6pm so on the way I stopped and rang them and told them I was coming. When I went in the receptionist said I had only ordered them on the 2nd so I had to explain that I ordered them on the 25 July but because I put in a special request it had taken out all the scripts I had ordered. Anyway she said the cardicor was missing but would be in on Monday but thats ok because I have some of those. Then she told me I could take the dispersable asprin with water and swallow it that way to whicjk I told her I have problems with tastes and smells (CSS) and she said well you swallow the gastro resistant ones so I explained they have a coating on them so no taste. I had never seen this receptionist before.

Came home and corned the chickens very late and as I went to go in the big girls pen there was a bird stuck in the netting over the run. I counted the girls and they were all there and by the looks of it I thought it may have been the buzzard but on inspection it was still alive and tangled in the plastic netting and it was a lovely owl. I rang Em to see if Ed was in but they were all in Westward Ho so I rang Dave round the corner. A shooting man and my local builder. He said he would be round shortly so I waited round by the pen. He is a tall man and the pen was too low for him to stand upright and he got his head in the net and then I got hung up in it too by my ear would you beleive!!!! Anyway with him holding the owls feet and myself cutting away at the netting and the owl suddenly moved so Dave had to hold his head away from me we managed to get it out of the run with netting still attached to places round its wing. and then free Dave put it on one of the post out the back to which it fluttered and landed in the long grass. Good job Dave has long legs so he just went over my fence and picked it up again. I got my carrying box out and put it in there with some water and put him in the orchard. I will go and check it later as it had been upsidedown for a while in the net and was not itself. I may ring the owl trust but I am worried it has young about that its feeding. There are rabbits running around all the time around te chicken run so he could have been after those.

Now I have bored you with my antics I shall go and get myself something to eat, I thinkj it is going to be beans on toast with cheese on top as I can't be bothered to do anything else.

I like Anthisan too though neither of us have had to use it this year. Other than ants, slugs and snails which are always present we haven't had much problem with bugs and mossies at all. They must all be round your areas.

I hope all your hip, back and arm pains ease soon Mel. It's very tiring being in pain.

Things are improving slightly here. OH seems pretty much back to normal - I can't believe how quickly he has recovered from such a nasty upset.

I had an appointment early this morning with the eye doctor. My eye problem seems to have stabilised which is the best I can hope for. He told me on my first visit that it wouldn't get better but the treatment was designed to stop it getting worse. The upshot is that I will have the injections on an "as needed" basis. They will continue to see me at lengthening intervals and if at any visit there are signs that things are getting worse again they will do an injection there and then. I'm fairly happy with that, It's about as good as I could have expected. My migraine has drained me completely but I am now beginning to eat a little more so I'm clearly getting better.

Things are also moving with the car now. Would you believe that after messing us about for 2 weeks the dealership body shop came back and said they "couldn't accommodate" us. They really only deal with land rovers there and their Volvo body repairs go out to another company. Fine, but why couldn't they have told us that straightaway? They offered to send our details on to this other company but OH told them not to bother. What they didn't know was that OH had already found this company himself and they saw the car Wednesday afternoon and sent us a quote this morning. OH has emailed them with a question that needs answering and once that's sorted we'll tell them to go ahead and order in the body parts that need replacing.

Next problem is that it won't be done till well into September and they need the car for 2 weeks. The MOT is due this month. So OH rang the servicing section of the Volvo dealership. They have been looking after the car for years and have always been very good to us. They asked him to take the car in for them to look at and that happened yesterday. There doesn't appear to be any structural damage, the car drives the same as before, the doors close properly and there are no sharp edges so they can legally do a full service and MOT even if the bodywork is a bit of a mess. That's now booked in for 16th so things are looking up.

It's a funny old day, heavy rain one minute and sunshine the next. Every time I think I'll try and do a couple of garden jobs the rain comes down again.

Now I've bored you all silly with our health and our car I'd better get on and answer some emails that have come over the last few days and decide what to feed OH on tonight.

There's no good years for mossies. Done a white wash and have just washed the washing line. Its just finished so I should get it out but my arm is starting to ache so I thought I would pop in and see who's posting.

Picked a lb 2oz of blueberries this morning so need to sort those and make some blueberry buns for when BIL comes. May see him tomorrow but will see as it is only a few days since his op and I don't want him mowing and getting dust in his eye even though he says he has an eye patch. There is'nt much he can do here that dos'nt envolve dust and dirt. Iv'e just thought I don't think I looked at the stuff Mandy sent a pic of!! I seem to remember seeing some tubs with stuff in but it has'nt registered so I better go and look through my emails.

Hope Vera is a bit better today.

Me too with Anthisan cream Mel/Island. I am using it all the time at the moment. I think it is a bad year for mossies this year. (or a good year if you are a mossie).

Island Report 4 Aug 2023 10:54

Ann, Jakemans are widely available too - newsagents, petrol stations..... and won't break the bank if you don't like them or they don't work for you, although I would be surprised if the latter. :-D
Morning Mel. I swear by Anthisan cream for bites, takes the itch away quickly.
Next! :-D :-D

Good morning all. 13 degrees at the moment and dry. but who knows when it will rain........... Because it will!!

Mandy hope you got your washing dry yesterday. I have bedding washing at the moment but it will get put in the drier as usual.

Mel, did you find anybody new, or are you just tidying up information that you already have?

Slept ok last night. Still coughing a bit but it is a loose cough and doesn't often end in a coughing 'fit'.

AnninGlos Report 3 Aug 2023 08:56

good morning all grey skies but dry so far, slept well and cough not too bad so far so hopefully on the mend. 16 degrees so not cold. If it stays dry I might have a potter in the garden. I am showered, washed hair and dressed but better go and get some breakfast.

As my weekly shop order is standing at over £70 (one of those weeks when it all needs replacing) I have not ordered the pastilles. I really needed them 3 days ago so will get them with a later order.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Aug 2023 16:27

O dear Vera we thought something must be wrong fo ryou not to post. I do hope you feel better in the next couple of days and that oh can get your car done before its MOT. That reminds me I must ring and book mine in as its due in August.

Forgot to ask for my pills when I went down the shop so I rang this afternoon and they said they were there so down I went only to find that the Co-codamol was the only one there to pick up and I had ordered the other days before that. I have had to ring the surgery this afternoon and they are going to try and get htem down the shop for tomorrow. I put in a request for the gastro resistant Asprin as they keep sending my the dispersable ones and I don't like those. Apparently if I put in a special request it cancels out the ones I had ticked before so now I shall have to email them twice with the scripts and then if I want extra things email again. What a palava!!!!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 2 Aug 2023 16:17

ordered some of the pastilles to come with my Tesco order. However that is a bit late for this cough. But wow £6. Things are so expensive now.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 2 Aug 2023 16:05

Oh dear Vera, I did wonder if the migraine had taken over after you last wrote. It sounds horrid and I hope that you will continue to recover. I hope the rest of august is a better month for you both, and for your car.

No I have not heard of Bronchostop but will look out for it, although hopefully it won't be needed now. Having said that about an hour ago I had a really bad coughing fit. I was actually quite frightened as I couldn't catch my breath. I dawned on me that I am alone here, but I did fairly quickly recover thank goodness. It was not long after I'd had lunch and I think maybe a piece of tomato skin had got caught in my throat and aggravated it. Hopefully onwards and upwards.

SuffolkVera Report 2 Aug 2023 15:35

Good afternoon all

Thank you for your concern ladies. I haven’t been very well and am still not too good but I am pleased to say that OH is making a really good recovery. I can’t believe it was only last Thursday that he became so ill. Our GP rang on Monday and was pleased with his progress and today he seems to have really perked up.

Unfortunately, not only did my migraine come back but it’s been the worst one I have had for years. I spent all Saturday evening and through the night being sick and all Sunday in bed semi-conscious convinced my head was being crushed in a vice. My digestion is always affected by migraine but this time I’ve been really struggling to eat anything and have lost 5 lbs in weight over the last few days and I can’t afford to lose any weight. I’m scraggy enough already, lol.

I had to miss another afternoon tea yesterday. This time it was the Ladies Club, held in the Chairman’s garden, and apparently it was a really good event. We have missed so much this year and at the one tea we did manage to attend I couldn’t eat anything because of my broken tooth.

We are having real problems getting our car repaired after the trouble we had at the funeral we went to. A couple of weeks ago the body shop of the main dealers saw the car, took photographs and measurements and sent the details to their estimator for a quote. In spite of emails and phone calls from OH and promises from them we are still waiting. The local body shop that we used once before has recently closed. Someone else is taking it over but won’t be open for business for a while yet. Today OH has found somewhere else and they have just rung to say they can take a look at it this afternoon so he has gone dashing off. It is getting desperate as the MOT is due in 3 weeks and we don’t want to be stuck with the car off the road because we can’t get the MOT.

Your tomatoes are ripening better than mine AnnG. I’m glad your cough has eased a bit. Have you ever tried Bronchostop? They are a herbal brand of cough mixture and pastilles. I’ve only used the pastilles but I was surprised at how effective they were. They do have a strong taste of thyme but I don’t mind that.

That is a lot of craft stuff Mandy. I look forward to seeing any cards you make.

This bit of typing has exhausted me and my eyes are going a bit blurry so I am going to close now. I’ll be back in the next day or two.
