Mel the first Christmas is always going to be hard and strange whatever you do If I were you (and I am not of course). I would choose to go to Em, she has the boys there to take your mind off things (as boys do), and if there are several people you won't have to chat You will at least get a nice meal that you don't have to cook and you are close to home so you can excuse yourself as soon as it becomes too much. You could also probably explain all this to Em beforehand as well. Good of them both to think of you.

Morning allo,

Dull and dreary here this morning and its raining a bit as it was last night so no frost today.

BIL asked me over for Christmas dinner yesterday whichever day I wanted to go he would come and get me. Then in the early evening Em came for eggs and she too asked me for Christmas dinner. Don't know if I want to go to either now I have been asked. I knowe SIL takes the decs down the day after Christmas day as they are only up for Isla the sort of grandchild.

Em could have her inlaws there too, Ed's parents who I don't know very well. I shall have to see. I have never not had to cook on Christmas day for years and years.

Good morning all overslept this morning, went back to sleep at 7am as it was so dingy looking out. Not dressed yet so better get on. Mel hope the keyboard works OK for you.

Mandy yes still playing up a bit but BIL came today and he has bougbht me a new one the same as the one I am using nad said its another early Christmas present.

BIL helped me do the pond filter and as I forgot to get diesel the other day when I went to Holsworthy he put the four cans he had in the garage in my car and will get them filled up at Sainsburys and I will pay him when he gives me the bill.

Em popped in later for eggs and had 2 dozen and we had a long chat so I have been occupied all day.

I also sold two more things on Ebay to the same lady so had to send an invoice to combine the postage.

Also put three more bits on Ebay so I have had quite a busy day. Had to scrap the ice off my car to go to the shop. I had it running to help defrost it and then wiped all the windows and screen, side mirrors aand inside the windscreen too. You should have seen the water that came off. Its all frozen up again now.

Evening all

What a dreary day its been ,very frosty all day and very foggy, I think the frost did lift a little but not the fog ,awful for those who any journeys to make .

I have just loaded the dish washer ,we don't use it that much with just the two of us but we had a nice roast chicken dinner tonight so I thought I'd load it up .
I bought two chickens from the butchers where Jake works they were on a tray two for 7.49 so I cooked one and put the other in the freezer .
We both full up now ,Colin is now looking at the back of his eye lids :-D and I'm watching the weakest link, I see in the dancing Nigel Harman has left as he injured his ribs , shame as he was quite good .

Anng thats sad the lady has passed away and you didn't know ,is there anywhere else where you could make and take your lovely cards to, would any charity shops take a few ,they always seem to be crying out for any donations now so I'm sure they would be glad of some homemade cards .

Mel is your key board still playing up ,give it a bit of a hoover you might have some tiny bits of dust getting under the keys and making them stick .

Hope Vera is enjoying her family time ,I bet she'll sleep like a log after all the chatting .

Might get my tree up indoors tomorrow, to cold to get the real tree outside sorted with thd lights on ,hopefully next week will warm up a bit so we can get it up.

I checked on line and it looks as though she died intestate as there is a request for people interested in her estate to contact certain solicitors. How strange to not make a will when she has been ill with various things at least since I have been making cards for her, must be at least 5 years. Apparently she died on 7 April (I was in the Lake District) I had taken cards to her the week before.

Good morning all, can't see if it is frosty but it probably is as it is only minus three at the moment (8pm).
I don't have any plans for today so will see where it goes. I still have presents to wrap and may start to get the decs out.

Mel, difficult to make the cards for charity that I used to as the lady who used to take them sadly passed away. I have no idea when, only found out when I saw that her house had been sold. Well, I think she rented the house actually from a family member. she had been ill with heart problems for a long time and more recently other problems so it was not a great shock.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Dec 2023 17:17

O meant to say glad you liked the card Anng and can use it again for the charity.

What a lovely surprise to have the granddaughter coming too. You will be so pleased to see her after 6 months.

Finished the ring and took it up the churchnput it in place and went and had a word with oh and mum and picked up some conkers under Sheila's tree. Sheila is our reader and often takes the services up there and she has just had a lot of hospital visit. I don't expect she was able to get some conkers so I found some today so brought them home and I shall pop them in some moss to give to her or leave them in the church for her to collect with her card. She likes them cos she thinks they keep the spiders away but it dos'nt work here.

Then just before dark I went up to collect my scripts from the shop as I had run out of the blood pressure one two days ago so thought I better get them so I can take one today.

Its been -1 here since this afternoon and maybe all day as I hav'nt had time to look.

Just having a cuppa and a chocolate brownie I treated myself to at the shop but I shall only eat half as its huge.

Oh that will be lovely for you to see your granddaughter as well as your grandson Vera enjoy the weekend together .

No more snow here ,the suns shining but the sky looks very black out the front .

Would you believe there is yet another change of plan. Grandson texted early this morning to say his sister, the granddaughter in Edinburgh, is now able to come as well so she was on her way to him in Yorkshire and he would drive the rest of the way, but it will be late afternoon when they arrive. It meant a quick rethink of the sleeping arrangements but we are all sorted now. It was short notice but I am pleased she can come as I haven’t seen her since June and goodness knows when we’ll next meet up.

We both popped out first thing and got the extra bits we wanted but we were back here before 9 am. Stifado went in a very low oven at 11 am to eat around 7 pm and OH and I enjoyed the soup for our lunch and are freezing the rest of it.

It’s been sunny all day but the frost hasn’t cleared much. It’s still white everywhere but we haven’t had any snow, though the yellow warning is still in place.

Going to have a quick shower now while I’ve got the chance.

I have printed off a couple of copies of the robin to put in my made cards box to remind me to use it next year.

thank you Mel for your card yes could easily be re-usable next year.. Gwyn I would like to send you a card if you would message me your address, however it is entirely up to you but you feel part of this group now.

Gwyn yes the rented trees have been going for some years now. seems a great idea if you want a real tree.
It is a beautiful contrast when you come upon the window suddenly, especially if you are not expecting it. I am regretting that we have not made more effort to get out into the forest in the past 30 years since living here. it was always going to be 'later'. so pleased that we visited a lot when we lived in Lydney in the 70s though.

Mandy please keep the snow over your way, none here so far still only 0 degrees though.

I am making the bows and wiring the 4 Christmas roses indoors but still have to do the holly berries and some hedgehog holly so that will be done in the shed and its quite warm in there this mroning with the sun being out and the ring was not frozen so thats good.

I have knocked off the fingernail on my left hand opening the bird food tub and now I am having trouble typing and picking things up. Wildies are all charged up with food as are the big girls. I just have to thaw the bird bath but have put a bowl of water on it for now.

Morning all,

We had a light snow shower last night and a heavy frost this morning so it's a bit white in places ,we've just had quite a heavy snow shower with big flakes but now the suns out and there's lovely blue sky .

Mel have you got a little flask you could take with you into the shed so you could have a sip of a hot drink to keep you warmed up while your doing your ring .

Anng the robin photo would make a lovely Christmas card ,your photography group will enjoy looking at the photos from yesterday I'm sure .

Vera I hope all your visitors arrive safely and you all enjoy the get together .

Gwyn we saw the bit on the television about Christmas tree renting ,I expect its pricey but it helps to keep the tree going for the year and how lovely to have the same tree again each year .
Did you enjoy your Haggis .

Coffee time now so I'd better get the kettle on .
