It could have been the thunder around that gave you the headache Vera. I used to get a headache when it was around.

Yes we were lucky to get the wood away before the rain came ,the old wood on the wall and the boxes had been up there for quite a few years and they were made with secondhand wood , it was wood from utility room cupboards that Colin had built for a customer ,she used them for a few years until they decided that they would use the utility room as an office so got Colin to pull all the wooden units out .
We took the boxes down a few weeks ago but left the back panels on the wall to cover the screed blocks as people can look through into the garden.

Anng that will be nice to have your daughter with you for an extra day so you can get the plants you need ,I expect you'll have a bit yo do in the garden when you get back , why is it the weeds seem to shoot up when you go away .

Vera hope you managed to get to the post box in the dry , my goodness the showers have been heavy here today with several claps of thunder .
That was a nice thought to take the mango to your friend ,something a bit different and I bet it went down a treat .

Suns shining but the sky is as black as your hat again ,just waiting for the thunder clap. .

Afternoon ladies

I was just going down the road to post a card to one of the granddaughters when it came over really black and in the space of 10 minutes we had thunder, really heavy rain and some hail. Then it suddenly stopped and the sun came out. There is quite a strong wind blowing and I can still hear thunder in the distance. Funny old weather isn't it?

My headache cleared up, thank you. OH is happier today so I'm not so stressed. This morning after I showered and hair washed I did the ironing and we had a slightly early lunch, then I went into town and did some shopping at Waitrose. Decent quality products but they are expensive compared to Tesco or Sainsbury. Then I continued on to the other side of town to visit a friend who is recovering from a fractured pelvis amongst all her other illnesses. I stayed longer than I intended as she was a bit down and tearful. She lives alone and, although all our group visit her from time to time, she does get fed up. I remembered her saying once that she liked mango so I took her a pot of mango chunks from Waitrose which pleased her as everyone else takes chocolate or grapes.

You timed getting your wood under cover just right Mandy. It would have been annoying if it had all got wet.

It will be nice for you to have your daughter and sil for an extra day AnnG as it means you can get to your garden centre for some plants. I could do with a few more plants as well so we must try to find the time to get to our garden centre.

Mel, I would have ironed the pillowslips for the charity shop as well. Even if people wash them when they get home they are much more likely to buy something that looks crisp and fresh than something that looks all crumpled.

I'm now going to run down to the post box and get this card in the post before it starts raining again.

Annx Report 9 Jun 2026 16:05

I missed you there AnnG. Yes it's nice to look around places even if the prices are offputting. The garden centres have plenty of plants just now, so you will enjoy picking some to plant up when you get home.

Afternoon Everyone,

Well it can't make it's mind up whether to be sunshine or rain here either and we keep getting a dose of each. It put me off doing some washing or gardening, but I need to do washing later or I'll be running out of pants! An Openreach man was walking down our end of the close early this morning, so I hope it doesn't mean more road digging soon.

Mel I can't believe you ironed pillow cases for the charity shop. If people buy them the first thing they would do is wash them. I'm trying to clear some dumped stuff from the study, but daren't leave spaces on the bookshelves where I keep craft stuff. I've noticed OH's books seem to be coming back when I'm out if I do! You've made me wonder what dates are on things lurking in the back of my kitchen cupboards, especially the top ones.

Mandy you got your wood put away just in time as there isn't much warning with these heavy showers! I remember years ago when my first OH got a wood barrel and cut it in half to make two tubs to go each side of the front porch. We lined them with double layers of thick polythene, but despite being oak eventually they still went rotten. You could always hang some plastic pots up if you wanted to in place of the boxes if you miss the flowers.

It still seems magical to see a lovely rainbow doesn't it Vera. Goodness knows what our ancient ancestors made of them. I hope your headache has cleared up now.

Good afternoon all. We have sunshine and showers here and it is not too cold. This morning we went to the Lakes shop for coffee. It is a large department store but very expensive. I actually only bought a couple of very small items. Nice to have a good look round. We then went to a small garden centre as daughter wanted blue lobelia. I couldn’t get anything as there would not be room in the car for travelling home. No problem though as I have just been updated that they will stay an extra day when we go home and take me to the garden centre. I need a few more plants as I didn’t want to leave too many for Cynth to water.

Mel, sounds as if you need to have a good sort out in your dumping ground lol who knows what else is lurking in there ,you never know you might find something you've been looking for for years :-D

The wood delivery came and we had just put it away in the shed when five minutes later down dropped the rain with a loud clap of thunder , we had lightning too , now there's sunshine and blue sky again .

I'm brilliant sunshine again now the shower only lasted about 5 mins.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Jun 2026 11:16

I must tell you this I have been ironing in the uti room ( known as the dumping ground) and on the top of the counter in there was a pile of ironing that I had'nt done for ages as it was pillowcases I was going to give to the charity shop so I gave them a quick iron and when I went back there on the counter was a jar of Uncle Bens chilli sauce and guess what the use by date was? yes September 2019. That is definately going down the drain and the jar in the recyleing.

What am I like...........................

Baby has a pretty name. Some of these old fashioned names have come back and sound lovely now. That was sensible of you to enjoy her without breathing all over her. My son was 9lbs 4ozs at birth and looked a few weeks old already.

If your door is still under warranty, Annx, I would expect the company to have a legal obligation to put it right. It’s a bit of a cheek expecting you to do their job for them.

I’ve had a fraught afternoon with OH who had got himself into a right tizzy over something or other and wouldn’t let it go. He eventually calmed down a bit but I was left with a headache so a little while ago I thought I’d go for a short walk and get some air. By the time I’d got jacket and shoes it had come over black and then we got thunder, rain, hail and more thunder and rain so I didn’t get out after all. But the weather is forgiven as I glanced out of the window a few minutes ago and there was the most beautiful double rainbow I have ever seen. It was low in the sky, just arching over the house and the colours were so clear and bright that it looked as though it had just been washed. It even made OH smile.

My neighbours twin only weighed 9 lbs together. The little girl was 4lb something and the little boy first born was 5lbs 1oz. Thats smaller then my son who came int o the world at 5lbs. 3 oz.

Must have been lovely to see the baby even if you did'nt hold her and I think that was very wise. I shan'nt see the twins till they say I can go . they will tell me when I can pop up there. They need to get themselves sorted first with the other child under school age.

What a cheek asking you to do the door yourself. :-| :-| :-| if its still got that long warranty on it they should come and do it themselves not ask the customer to do it.

What a sweet gesture to find you a copy of the book and buy it for you Vera. A lovely surprise for you.

I found the email from Anglian on my spam eventually and can't believe what they say! If they consider it is an easy repair they will send instructions and a video for us to do it ourselves! It's still under warranty for 7 years, so what if we damaged the door trying to fix it ourselves? Would the warranty also cover that? I doubt it. They are going to let me know whithin 5 days whether they will send someone out or not.

That was nice for you to see the baby AnnG. I think you were sensible to protect her and you have reminded me that my mother wouldn't even take my sister or brother out among people till they were a few weeks old because of germs they could pick up. Their hands and fingernails are so tiny at that age as you say. It sounds as if she is already too big for newborn size clothes, but they usually have plenty of those anyway so I expect you got something that will fit or she will grow into. They grow so fast don't they.

I have started having a sort out in the study and chucked some things out and tidied up a pile of all sorts. I found the painting I did of the two gipsy ponies tethered on a grass verge and had completely forgotten painting it.

How lovely of your granddaughter Vera, very thoughtful. I hope that you enjoy the book.

Es baby was beautiful, so tiny, you forget how small they are at one eeek old. Such a placid baby as well so far.
I didn’t hold her by choice. So. In law (granddad) did as did daughter but I declined when daughter offered her to me as I thought she wa too little to have us all breath on her. I was next to daughter when she was holding her so had a close look and a touch of her little hands. She is about nine pounds now after a week. Three of my great grandchildren were over nine pounds when born

Baby’s name is Maisie Iris.

I missed you there Annx. What a performance you are having to get your front door sorted out. I sometimes think companies deliberately make it difficult in the hope that customers will just give up.

I am sure you are enjoying seeing the new baby AnnG and new mum will be pleased to get your baby clothes present. Has she got a name yet?

While we were eating our lunchtime sandwich the doorbell rang. By the time OH had put his plate down and got to the door there was no-one in sight but there was a package in front of the door in the pouring rain. A delivery driver had put the package down, rung the doorbell and gone without even waiting to see if anyone was at home. I would complain if I could work out which company delivered it but there was nothing on the pack to indicate that.

The parcel was a nice surprise for me. When our late friend's house was cleared his sister found in the loft a load of plays and theatrical books which had been my brother's. The only one I wanted was an old book on Victorian theatre which I know my brother had. The rest of the books were divided between my 2 theatrical granddaughters and we took F's up to my son's last week for him to store for her till she's home from HK.. Of course, the only one that couldn't be found was the one I wanted and it is long since out of print. I was telling F. this last week and, bless her, she has gone online, found a used copy of the book and bought it for me. Wasn't that sweet of her?

F. flies back to HK tomorrow, a 14 hour flight. Rather her than me.

I was looking at my strawberries that I put in the big probagater, put the lid down against the garden bench seat and it toppled onto the decking and spilt down the middle but not quite right through. I am hoping I can glue it back together as I can't find a big one anywhere. I don't want a heated one just a tray and top. I have lots of little ones I used to use when we grew lots of veg and flowers but this one was given to me by the lady who moved back to France.

I shall have a nice picking of strawberries tonight after dinner.

Well it is a beautiful sunny day and the wind is just light now. It is a. It chilly though. Stayed in until 1130: then went to Asda as I wanted baby clothes as we are calling in to see the new baby ghis afternoon. A pity as this is going to be the best day but baby’s mum suggested this afternoon.
