Will this rain ever stop? It’s been more or less non-stop since mid morning.
It’s good that your blood tests results were OK Annx. I have to go for mine on Monday but I’m not expecting them to show any real problems. That lady is doing very well for 94, particularly if she is still driving.
I laughed at your stories of back to front tops and price tags hanging out. I got dressed quickly one morning in a pair of pull on trousers. I didn’t feel comfortable at all till I went to the bathroom and found I had them on back to front. It would have been fine if they had just been a cheap pair with an elasticated waist but they were an expensive, beautifully cut Italian pair just with elastic at the sides. All the material that was meant to fit smoothly over the bottom was bunched over my stomach and the flat front was stretched to the limit over my rear. I’m very careful to check where the label is now.
I told the BG man this morning that I thought there was a problem with the boiler as it seemed to be coming on too often considering that the heating is turned right off and the hot water tank is only heated for an hour early morning. He knew straightaway that it was a particular valve and fixed it and I haven’t heard the boiler come on since so that’s a good job done.
After he had gone I hoovered and dusted right through downstairs. OH got us a bite to eat and then Sainsbury’s arrived. He was a bit of a miserable driver which is unusual. He brought in 4 crates and when I started unpacking one I realised it wasn’t my order, so there was a bit of muttering from the driver and he had to go back on the van and find my order. Even then I had something in one of the crates that I hadn’t ordered so I had to give that back to him. Sainsbury’s seem to have got very slip shod lately.
My eyes are sore at the moment so I’m going to put some drops in and then I might have a nice pre dinner glass of wine ;-). It’s time I was thinking about cooking our meal anyway. I hope you enjoy your Turkish tonight AnnG.

Some of these older ladies are really spy for their age. We used to have an old lady drive around here like she was on a race track she went so fast on the country lanes.
well I had a good clear up in the kitchen and hoovered ready for Stu tonight and I have just this min had a message from him to say he can't come as he has to get ready for the weekend, whatever that means.

Afternoon All,
More of the wet stuff this morning which wasn't forecast till the afternoon. I had a doctors appointment about the blood test results and ankle swelling this morning and which were all fine, including the heart ones. Just the usual blood glucose slightly higher. It seems there's only the stockings they can help with, so I'll have to do what I can myself that will help. While I was in the waiting room I heard the receptionist ask when someone was born and I couldn't be sure whether the lady answered 1931 or 1941. She came in the waiting room using a stick and sat down carefully, but was chatting away to the rest of us about the weather. She'd had her hair coloured and wore makeup with neatly pencilled eyebrows so I thought she must have been born in 1941. OH and I went to the farm shop afterwards and as we came out I saw the same lady at the other end of the shop. OH recognised her and said he saw her in the doctor's a few weeks ago too. He went on to say she was in the queue at reception ahead of him and that he'd heard her say she was born in 1931!! So she was aged 94 and still driving herself and pottering around.
OH is home from yet another meeting and to collect his mouse he left behind last night, so I'll get something to eat now and BBL to read the posts.

It was so wet and I felt so cold that I decided to stay home. Nothing I needed but I am a bit disappointed not to have got to the shops. So zi have put on a fleece and made a coffee and have sat reading. They won’t be long anyway.
That was a shock Vera as long as you remembered to put all your undies on! :-(

Just started to drizzle, I did manage to plant out a few little French marigolds that I grew from seed ,I noticed the slugs had had a go a one or two so thought I'd better get them in the garden ,only had about a dozen but they are in now with some slug gel squirted round them ,they will have to take their chance
Easy done Mel in a hurry , I remember having a new pair of cropped trousers on when we went to one of the parks with the grandchildren ,they weren't inside out but did have the price tag hanging on the outside at the back of the waist ,if it wasn't for one of the girls telling me I might have been parading about with the price tag out telling everyone they were 19.99 all day lol

Mandy that reminds me I had a roll neck cotton jumper on the other day and when I took it off at night i'd had it on back to front! I had the seem of the neck in the front. I thought it was a bit uncomfortable all day. Told myself I was a silly b*tch.
It feels really cold here this morning, suppose I better get dressed.

Morning all
Very dull here ,don't think the rain is far away ,I have the second load of washing in the machine and two more loads to do , I have put my thick coat in and then that can go in the wardrobe for the summer ,I have Colins coat to wash too.
Oh dear Ann its so annoying when the washing gets soaked and you have to spin it all again ,I see you and OH had to sit in your cars because of the rain ,I got stuck in the shed yesterday because it tipped down .
Anng enjoy your Turkish meal later , hope it stays dry for your wander round the town ,at least if you get a shower you can shelter in a shop or a coffee shop .
Mel, that's annoying the oil man was so rough pulling the pipe out ,now you have to sweep it all up again .
Vera I hate getting dressed in a hurry ,I always worry I might have something on inside out lol
Better get the hoover out now and do a bit of dusting

Morning Mel, morning all
Had some horrendous rain last night. Now it’s dull and dry with more rain forecast for the rest of the day.
Man was coming to service the boiler between 8 am and 1 pm today They normally turn up at about 12.30. 7.55 am I had a phone call saying he was 5 minutes away. You’ve never seen anyone get dressed so fast in all your life. I was impressed as he put a pair of overshoes on as he stepped into the house so he wasn’t treading any dirt in. It made him look as though he was walking around a crime scene.
Sainsbury’s are coming between 2.30 and 3.30 pm but they haven’t yet sent me the bill so I don’t know if there are any subs or missing items
I’m sitting here wasting time watching the goldfinches on the bird feeder They are such pretty birds. I had a cuppa first thing but I haven’t had any breakfast yet and I’m getting peckish but will wait till boiler man has finished.
Have a good day whatever you are doing and stay dry.

Good morning all, I slept ok last night but woke at around 6 with painful legs.
Vera I suppose it was good of the electrician to order the part as OH had got it wrong once but he could have told you. Did they take back the wrong part. It seems it was wet for both you and Ann and you both got a soaking. Good old British weather. We must be hardy souls.
Ann how annoying to get home to wet washing. Reminds me of shtick mine always goes in the drier.
Not sure what I am doing today L& J have hair appointments which don’t take long so I might go for a wander round town if it is dry. Looks like rain at the moment though. Tonight we are going to a Turkish restaurant for a meal, my treat.

Grey and dreary and wet I think that just about sums it up today and its only 11 degrees.
I'm hoping Stu will come tonight for dinner so I am going to do a chicken dish and if he dos'nt come it will do me two days.
Hope you all slept well and are all bright eyed and bushy tailed today.

That was a nice little outing and nostalgic too as you say AnnG. Good to get some fresh air too.
I had a coffee at the garden centre and while I was there the heavens opened so I hoped it wasn't doing the same at home and soaking my washing. Then it stopped but on the way to the village shop after, a storm with thunder and lightning started with hail stones and I could hardly see to drive. I had to sit in the shop carpark for about 15 minutes till it eased and I could get out of my car. Needless to say once I got home the washing was soaked. When OH got home I saw he was sitting in his car waiting for the rain to stop, so I unlocked the front door so he could walk straight inside without standing out in the rain.
I am amazed too Vera, but it's what he enjoys and wants to do. Your long row of troughs must make an impressive display each year. It would be nice to see a pic this year when they are blooming. Yes I hoped to plant up a couple more pots but it's impossible to do anything outside just yet.
Mel it sounds like the oil man thought your plants in the tarmac were weeds and didn't matter. He didn't sound very careful though as he must have seen your swept up soil pile!
Did you find something different to cook in your recipes Mandy? I think we all run out of ideas at times and don't fancy the usual things we've been doing.

Sounds nice there Anng.
I had a sweep up out the front of the bungalow, only about 15 foot but the moss that came off and the gravel off the tarmac I had quite a nice pile. Went down the shed and potted another tom plant and put that on the patio. Got hungry so came in and had a small bowl of bran flake then fed the robin who asked for worms the moment I stepped out the back door.
Next I fed the fish and later the girls. they had a bag of small spinach I forgot to eat last week but they enjoyed it.
The oil was supposed to come this morning so I could'nt go down the shop with the parcels. Came in and had a little lunch, tomatoes on toast, enjoyed that and then the oil lorry came just before I had finished. What a twonk the driver was, no sense I told him where the tank was and he pulled the pipe off the lorry right over some of my plants growing in the tarmac round the drain. He did'nt care just plodded along pulling the pipe and past the steps to the patio and then pulling the pipe across the patio he managed to spread all the dirt I had in a nice pile ready to sweep up roight across the tarmac again. I need'nt have bothered!!.
Then I had a call from the doctor and she said she noticed the other male doc had put me back on Omeprazole and that it was ok. I told her about my feet swelling up and she said that happens sometime in hot weather and not to worry about it. Had a word about something else and she is putting me on a three month trail of something else which will be ready to pick up next Monday.
Then I had to ring the library to renew my two books as they were due back tomorrow but at least I remembered this time.
Now I am going up the shop with my three little parcels now and then I can get back to the gardening.
O just on the last of the oil going in the tank it fell out of the sky so I suppose the silly man let rain get into the tank.

That sounds like a lovely little trip out AnnG and a walk down memory lane for you.
Annx and Mel, I know just what you mean about thundery weather giving you headaches. When it's thundery I always feel as though the weight of the sky is sitting on top of my head. However I know it was stress that caused my headache the other day. Never mind, we all have problems and we get over them.
I hope your oil delivery has arrived Mel. When we had oil heating in our last house we always used to get a tank load in the summer as it was often a bit cheaper then.
Your OH does lead a busy life Annx. I admire him for carrying on when he has had so many problems.
While I was out yesterday the electrician we use came to do a couple of jobs for us. He did one and then found he couldn't do the other one because OH had bought the wrong size part. Today I went with OH to the electrical place he bought it to get it changed. It's a trade place but will sell retail. When OH went in and explained what had happened they told him the electrician had already ordered the correct part for us. If they hadn't known about it OH would have ordered another one.
Near to this electrical wholesaler is a B & M store so we went in and I had a wander round their small garden centre bit. I wanted a few more basic annuals for another trough and a couple of small shrubs for yet another one. Up the side of our house, going up past our back door is a long, narrowish path. When we moved in I thought it was so dreary that I put a row of troughs along there - there are 19 or 20. I've been filling them with annuals every year which are colourful and easy but it does get expensive so I am now starting to put a few small perennial shrubs in some of them. I've had some Christmas box in 2 troughs for a couple of years and at B & M today I got 2 nice small hebes that can go in another one. I still want colourful annuals as well and I also got a box of Busy Lizzie, 20 plants for ÂŁ3.50.
This afternoon I've put an order in with Sainsbury for delivery tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow morning British Gas are coming to do the annual service on the boiler so it will be another day of waiting for people to arrive so you can't really get on with anything much.
We're still alternating sunshine and heavy, thundery showers and it looks like the same for tomorrow. It's difficult to do anything much in the garden but the combination of sun and rain is certainly making the weeds grow!!
Time for an afternoon cuppa and biccy I think and then I must decide what to do with some mince I've taken from the freezer for tonight.

We had a nice run out to St Bees, had a coffee first then down onto the prom for a walk. The tide was out and being term time the beach was empty except for dog walkers, the sea in the distance was calm with just small waves rolling in. It was cloud and sun so not cold. Quite nostalgic for me as the last time we were here was August 2020, T was already unwell but we had driven up to daughters for our diamond wedding. He managed to walk around and I have a photo of him sitting on the wall seat along the prom.
St Bees is the start point for the coast to coast walk that finishes at Tobin Hood bay.
It was really good to get the sea air.

Morning All,
Hopefully our rain isn't due till this afternoon as OH was up at 6.00am, showered, put the washing out and had set off into the city by 7.30am to attend some hearings. He's not a happy bunny as the carpark he used to use to go there has been taken over by Euro carparks and you can only pay using an App on your phone and we don't, and don't want to do, banking on our phones. So this time he's gone to John Lewis's carpark but it's further to walk and he's carrying his laptop and briefcase which won't be good for his back. He told me he'll be tellig them he won't be doing any more if they carry on holding them in the city. He's at a school meeting later today so I'll be on my own all day so hopefuuly can get lots done. I'm off to a garden centre first. They have nice cards there too and I need to get one or two. The gate's open for the window cleaner, if he decides to come and I'll pop in the shop on the way back.
Yes I used to get migraines before thunderstorms. I think it was due to air pressure changes if I remember right. BBL

Looks dull and damp out there but I don’t think it is raining.
