Wow I've just watched the live launch of Tim Peake on his way to the International Space Station, can't wait for the live update at 7pm on BBC2 tonight, It's great to watch history in the making :-D :-D Did you watch it Jane?

Sorry to hear you and David feel unwell today, hope you both feel better soon.

Yes Mel I'm doing my village but can't put all the houses in this year as it's a smaller space. I got my measurements wrong yesterday so the framework ended up to high, luckily OH isn't in work till 2pm so he re-cut it for me this morning. The lights are now attached and I'm in the process of putting in the sparkly backdrop, then I can put the houses, church, people etc... in.

Dull and dreary day here too :-(

You can get very thin brushes Mel, Supermarkets sell them as well as the.dentist surgery. I never got on very well with flossing, although OH swears by it!! He doesn't have periodontal problems though and has virtually no trouble with his teeth. Just a six monthly check up, with very little treatment needed - lucky you know what!!!!
We're in bed, watching the news - yawn!!!!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 14 Dec 2015 22:15

Iv'e done the dental floss stuff as my own teeth were so close together I would'nt have been able to get those brushes inbetween Liz. I have an leccy brush too.

magpie Report 14 Dec 2015 21:22

Mel, I've got the same problem, periodontal disease, and I think Ann has the same problem too, luckily I've had an excellent hygienist for years, both here and in Somerset, and they've managed to stabilise my bone problem. I have a regime that I have to keep to every day which involves using those indental brushes and the electric brush three times a day!! It's a bit of a nuisance, but has been well worth it, as I've only lost three teeth, and the other loose ones have tightened up, so for the time being they're ok.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 14 Dec 2015 21:15

I did consider having implants in the top 2 at the front. My SIL had them done as she could'nt get on with her denture.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 14 Dec 2015 21:12

I'll give you all false teeth........

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

David if you can keep as many of your own teeth as you can by having them filled then do so as there is NOTHING like your own teeth. I have bone degeneration which is why my teeth come loose. There is nothing wrong with the actual teeth and all of them that have come out are in perfect condition apart from staining on some from smoking. I can't have these implants because of the condition. They are £2000 a tooth.
I think I was charged £18 something to have my three teeth out but I am a national health patient.

magpie

magpie Report 14 Dec 2015 20:52

Sounds if you need a dentist David. Your filling would have been loose in the first place for it to come out like that. I've used an electric toothbrush for years and it's never caused me to lose a filling or any other disaster. It's certainly saved my teeth both from decay and gum disease, and I'd never go back to using an ordinary one.
We're watching a program on history channel about, would you believe it, false teeth!!!!! It's fascinating!!

David Report 14 Dec 2015 19:40

I'm pleased your denture now feels more comfortable to you Mel. Wait until your moth heals before any further adjustments. £800 for a complete set of dentures is probably the going rate Mel, but, what about her fee ibn addition to extract any remaining teeth?
I've so many teeth filled, or pulled I've considered having them out. I could stand that sort of charge. It's a decision you can't go back on. A few months ago I treat myself to an electric tooth brush. I was standing in the bathroom giving them a good seeing to with this electric
gizmo when whoosh, it brushed out a very large filling on the upper left. Gave it away to the electrician, the electric tooth brush, not the filling.
What would you do? Find a dentist that would accommodate this leg, or keep them?

Afternoon All,

It's been dull here too although it was brighter this morning. I was awake till 4.00am this morning, so got up and made a COT and took an apple back to bed with me! Then I woke at 8.00am for my tablet and got up and showered before going to Nuneaton for my click and collect parcel at Debenham's. It was some cardigans I'd ordered. :-) I went early so I could get a good parking space but the carpark was quite full at the end where the shops are but someone pulled out of an end space just right for me. My back is improving so I managed not to aggravate it sliding the seat back and squeezing through the crack when I opened the door.

I've noticed the indicators on the car don't seem to cancel straightaway and I have attempted to cancel them again by moving the stalk again. This has then put the opposite indicator on and panic sets in and I move the stalk back again, setting off the the other indicator again!!!!! :-0 :-S It happened a couple of times this morning and I must have looked like a Christmas tree with lights flashing all over the place!!!!! lol. Goodness knows what the drivers in cars behind me thought with my indicators flashing one side then the other and back again. Now I've sussed that when you cancel them they carry on and flash 2 or 3 more times and then stop on their own so I shall leave well alone in future!!!! I got a nice letter from the garage this morning thanking me for buying a car from them, saying they will always be there to assist me and will do everything to ensure my ownership experience is as rewarding as it can be and that if I have any issues or problems to speak to their Sales Manager. I can't remember getting a letter after I have bought previous cars.

I'm glad you went back to the dentist Mel, your teeth need quickly sorting so there are no problems with them.

I bet Cassie loves going beating with Ian Liz. I can just imagine her zigzagging in the undergrowth with her nose to the ground and coming home dead beat. :-) Good luck to Ian with his PSA test.

Frank a girl I worked with once used to faint sometimes like that with her monthlies. She cut her nose quite badly once. I must say I was glad I didn't have that happen as well. OH is watching the same match as you tonight........I saw your post and asked him if he was watching those teams and it flabbered his ghast that I knew!! ;-) It's good you have extended the olive branch and I expect you will all be pleased to be on better terms again.

Jane I had a tuna jacket with salad for lunch today!! :-) I'm not so keen on fresh tuna though as the texture is more meaty. I used to love the tuna mix sandwiches they did at work......tuna with a bit of mayo and grated cheese and chopped red onion.....delish!! What a shame about Chris's flatbread. It sounds like a bit of practice is needed to get the dough dry enough not to stick. I think we have all had 'stuck to the pan' experiences so he shouldn't be put off.

Gill it sounds like you will have your village now that your OH has found a unit you can use. It's great he will be get the Thursday off now and be able to take you and Sandra to Ellesmere Port.

There was an article in the paper tonight about the Barwell meteorite I went to see on Saturday. Unbeknown to me it seems the chap I was chatting to for ages was the Curator at the Space Centre in the city! The meteorite, which is the largest known one to fall in the UK, fell 50 years ago and the explosion could be heard in Coventry. According to the paper this meteorite is formed from rock that is older even than planet earth. The paper says they were overwhelmed by the number of people who came to see it, which included a couple that travelled from South Devon. They think more bits of it may be lying buried in local farm land. I took some pics so will see if I can send one. The surface that didn't break is dark brown and molten from when it rushed to earth.

I did get a squeezed in appointment at 2.45pm. I went off on my own as I did'nt have to have anything done. Arrived in Torrington much too early so popped down to the indoor market and had a quick look around there. Thats where I found those Santas Pants last year and I was hoping they would have more there this year but there was'nt any on the same stall as last year. I did get a pair of ankle warmers which actually go right up my legs to cover my knees which is what I wanted them for and they were only £1.60 so I was pleased with those.

She took some off the front of the bottom of the denture as when I lift my tongue thats when they came out into my mouth. She also told me to use some fixative and I said I did'nt want to try that until the gums had healed over a bit. They are still a little sore from the extraction. Anyway I came home with them feeling a bit better and I have had a little fiddle with them since and they are more comfy now but still need some adjustment. My next appointment for reveiw is still Jan 5th. I did ask how much it would be for a complete new set and she told me £800 for the top and bottom thats £400 each set. I would have no problem in paying that it is just the pricipal of not having a good fitting set in the first place that annoys me. She admitted it was her fault the first lot of top ones did'nt fit over the lower teeth after all.

Now I don't know what to get to eat tonight now as tomorrow is shopping day and not going to Morrisons last week has thrown me a bit. Shall ahve to go down the freezer and see what I can find.

Funny the things you remember. When I lay so long in the RVI I didn't wear pyjamas. Mainly because I don't own any but more importantly with the 2 fixators on my L leg I wouldn't have been able on any way. I tried a pair of the hospitals and trying to get them over the fixator was an extremely painful experience. if I'd taken much more morphine I would have become an addict. A few days into the stay I was hopped with a walking frame to the shower, just beyond the WC. Was a total wreck. I couldn't stand, so I was sat on a stool up against the cubicle wall under the shower. Getting up and dried to return to the ward was hazardous, but I survived it several times.
The nurses were a God send, I couldn't have done it on my own. They never batted an eyelid and were everything from caring and compassionate to humorous. When I took ill needing the drip one of them gently kissed my cheek and said "the end of an era" I thought she might lay me oot But, here I am, in a different bed, remembering..

No Jane, he's already had a blood test for the 17th! which was to check for anaemia, which could point to a bowel problem. Apparently it's quite usual before a colonoscopy. Tomorrow's is his six monthly test for his prostate!! Ever since the cancer, he has to have a PSA test twice a year. It's been very low which is good, but could rise, which won't be, so it has to be kept an eye on! We shall be glad when all these tests are over, but having had a brush with cancer, it has to be done. Good luck for Wednesday Jane, like us, you need to know what the story is.
Supper's ready!!!

It certainly pays to query something that been pricedup wrong then Frank.Especially that Beef :-D :-D.Well done you. That will be a lovely dinner for you all on Sunday.
I don't know if I have mentioned this man before.I think I have.
Well his name was Ray and he was working in Tesco right up until earlier this year at the age of 87 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.Such a lovley man.He was on the checkouts.Tesco was his second home and he just loved all the company.Sadly he has now just passed away :-( :-(....There is to be no funeral at his request ,but ther will be a memorial service on the 7th Jan.I might just go along as I am sure lots of staff and customers will. Not sure what family he has except a son in the USA who wasn't very close by all accounts.

I have finally finished wrapping James's presents now.Just got Chris's to do.I was thinking of doing them this evening while he is out but by the time I do dinner for James and Me there won't be time. We are having giant Ravioli stuffed with Chicken and Rosemary.I will probably just have Parmesan Cheese grated on and James might have some kind of sauce.(he is not a fan of Parmesan).Might pop some Garlic Bread in for him too as I know he will be mighty hungry as he always is when he gets in from work.

Liz i actually felt really sorry for Chris when those flatbreads didn't wok out.He has spent 2 hours making them .The problem was that they had completely got stuck to the Greaseproof paper !.Neither of us could really understand why. As I said he cannot stand to fail at anything.Hannah is exactly the same.I remember when she failed her driving test on the first go.She was so upset and said she had never failed at anything.
As I said 'it happens' and sometimes it is not a bad thing. It happens to everyone at some time or another.

I am not a Tuna fan Liz.I can eat tinned Tuna if pushed. But it has to be a hard shove .My Sister does Tuna Quiche quite often.I have never tried that one.She knows I never will lol

Tomorrow I am going down to Fitz for a bite and to have a look at the Tree :-D.It is Chris's day to be out for lunch .I saw Fitz this morning in Tesco and he didn't look great. He is having sleepless nights because of really painful arthritis in his hands.

Liz is it a blood test for Ian tomorrow? and then the bigger appointment on the 17th?
I have my Drs appointment on Wednesday 5.30.That will feel so weird for me :-S

Gill I did see Strictly :-D :-D..I will keep quiet too just in case as you say peopls still haven't seen it.

Chris has just rung to say he has only just arrived at the Derngate. So that was well over an hour :-S :-S..He said he is going to have a glass of wine before the film starts.

I have no idea where Thomas is.Probably sheltering somewhere from the rain.he has been out since about 12.20.So a long time for him these days.
I found him standing on top of the woodburner last night !!!!.Good job it wasn't lit LOL
He was investigating the flue and came down with a good few cobwebs on his head :-S..I have now had a dust up there :-D

Mel how is that split on your thumb?Painful I bet.Can you slather it in Savlon or something and cover it with a plaster tonight.I do hope that the wreaths sell after all that hard work you put in.

Frank Report 14 Dec 2015 16:57

I have just had one Jane. lol

After getting showered and shaved Ros asked if I wanted to go to Tesco with her. I said YES as I needed to get her a Christmas Card.

While walking around, which is unusual for me. I bought some Marmalade and runny honey for when I do the HAMS next week. I also looked on the meat counter to see the price of RIB of BEEF. Sitting in the cabinet was a piece with FOUR RIBS. Prices at just over £35.00. I said to the assistant I would like TWO RIBS. which would be ample for Sunday Dinner. She cut it in half and asked when one I wanted. She then weighed it and said that will be £37.48. My mouth must have dropped open as she asked what was wrong. I said how come the four ribs was only 35.00 odd Now you want £37.48 for half of it. She then went on to say someone must have missed priced it. So me being me. I said THAT'S NOT MY FAULT. WHERE'S THE MANAGER. Out came this woman, and said it was a mistake. I again repeated myself. I said are you going to sell this to me for half price or not. The long and short of it I came home with a joint weighing almost FOUR KILOS for £16.00 odd. It looks a beauty !!!! When Ros paid for her shopping the girl on the till said YOU GOT YOURSELF A BARGAIN THERE. Customers behind Ros were trying to see what her bargain was. So I am well chuffed ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

It is raining quite hard here now. So poor old Chris. will have a wet drive into Northampton, to see his film. I must try to remember to take Ros to that Cinema Jane, not that I go very often.

Carolyn and John have invited us over to Tenerife from the 8th to 15th January.. She sent an email and said the return flight from East Midlands was £131.96 for both of us. I am going to check the flights and get them booked. Conrad will have to bring us home from Devon on the 6th. I just hope the price is right.

So it all go at yours then Gill. when are your getting your village put together ??

Poor old Ros, see keeps having a little weep. She has been writing to Nancy since she moved to the I.O.M. over FIFTY years ago. Nancy and her husband did make the odd trip to see relatives in Earls Barton. This was when I first met them. She has written to her daughter this afternoon, so that's upset her again.

One of my favourites for DINNER. Cold Pork, Chips and Pickle. Ros will have coleslaw with hers.

Tony is taking me to the pub tonight. Leicester play Chelsea. So should be a good match.

Have a nice evening all, I might pop in later.

We're having baked potatoes tonight with cold lamb and salad. We both love Tuna Jane! and often have it either with salad or as a bake!! Our youngsters have it from time to time with salad cream in a sandwich! Its actually quite delicious, and filling!!
Yes, it is awful what some animals have to suffer. Quite shocking in fact, so Cas is a fortunate little girl, particularly as like all youngsters, she is a lively girl, so you have to be pretty patient and firm with her. I think all that early training when she was a baby has paid dividends, as she is fairly(!!) obedient, clean as a whisker, very affectionate, and she certainly loves a cuddle! (don't we all?!!)
I smiled about the super chef!!!
