MIL suffered from rheumatoid arthritis. She had the most serious bed sores.
She died in hospital from dehydration. Her artificial were becoming exposed.
Personally I was of the impression had failed in its duties. :-S

Not everyone ends up like that David. My 91 year old aunt divides her time between her son and daughter, and this arrangement works very well. Having worked in Care for many years, you did hear some sad stories, but also some really good ones. Just depends I guess on what the family situation is or the Home you're in.
We're out all day, We're going to Mole Valley(!!) then to visit friends who live nearby it's a lovely day so it should be good.

Just had a phone call off the Agent. The couple who viewed yesterday might want to come back and take another look. Apparently they were looking at next door but one and now can't agree which one to buy. She wants this one and her husband wants the other one.......so I'm left wondering which one they will go for.

She wants to move into somewhere that's already been done up (ours) and he likes tinkering, so prefers the other one, as it needs work doing on it.

I've not had any feedback from the lady with her daughter yet.

Morning all

Lovely and sunny here today and the wind has finally gone.

Don't forget it's LIBRARY DAY today Mel

It's a shame how some people end up David. It can bring a tear to your eyes.

Nothing planned for today, all the housework is done, so I'm going to carry on with my family tree and catch up with some programmes I've recorded later.

What's everyone else up to today?

A few years ago not long before she died I was visiting my MIL in the care home she was in after her husband died in a tragic accident, The nurse was changing her bedding etc so I went into the day room to find a newspaper. The was one other resident sat in there, a woman. A sad sight to be honest but sadder still what she said to me. IT CAN HAPPEN TO ANY BODY IF THEY LIVE LONG ENOUGH
Didn't know what to say. :-(

Good luck with the house sale gill.

I was lying here playing Solitaire, thinking, as you do about 3/4 hours ago
You bring to mind very old memories. My wife's brides maid, we paid her a visit
donkeys years ago. Her Father had the most unusual hobby. While watching the TV he knits, quite proficiently. And in his back yard he had scores of budgies (sp)
Yes, he had the in all colours. Used to breed them and show them. I've heard of people keeping pigeons, but never budgies. :-D

Yes I could of done with a "Queue Here" sign Ann :-D :-D :-D I'm hoping for some good news tomorrow or the day after, although the second couple looked at the bungalow next door but one, that's on the market slightly lower than ours so I'm not expecting anything positive from them.

The lady with her daughter doesn't seem in a rush to do anything, she did plan how she would change the kitchen while she was here, saying that she can use the space that will be left by us taking our freezer and fridge as a breakfast bar and then put her tall fridge freezer at the end of the worktop towards the end of the kitchen, so that was good.

I explained to her that there are tiles underneath the floor covering we have and they go right back under the fridge and freezer so she wouldn't have to have the kitchen floor re-tiled. This seemed to please her. I just hope she doesn't take to long to make up her mind and lets the Agent know sooner rather than later if she wants this place or not.

We'd like to know if either of the viewings we've had today are going to buy before we talk with the insulation man on Monday, that way we'll all know where we stand. I've got another viewing on Saturday but they haven't sold their property yet, so aren't in a position to make an offer just yet. The lady with her daughter doesn't have anything to sell and the other couple's property is under offer. So I'll just have to wait to see what happens.

The talk sounds like £2 well spent Ann, I do envy you I'd of loved to have gone to it myself, it's my kind of thing, I love history. It sounded like a really interesting talk. They were lucky they missed Richard III's head though.

You were lucky Frank falling onto the sofa, although not so lucky falling in the first place. Pleased to hear you didn't hurt yourself. I'd like to see Ros's hard work too please.

I'm having a go at my tree again and have found a few more people for OH's side of the family. I'm on a roll so I'd better get back to it. :-) :-)

Thats sounded really interesting Ann and I bet the time passed quickly as you were engrossed in what was being said. It did sound worthy the £2 to get in.

Glad it all went off ok for you today Jane. I know what you mean about the headlights blinding you in the dark which is why I go shopping earlier in the winter.

Gill it sounds like your day went off quite well considering people turned up at the wrong times. Perhaps it was just as well. Hope you get some good feed back on those two veiwings. Fingers crossed for you.

It wasn't the fav carvery Jane, that's The Shires at Peatling Parva. This is a new pub restaurant they built last year on part of the Fosse Park development down the main road. It looks beautiful in the summer with all the flowers and baskets in the outside seating area. I think it is an awful shame to lose all that business because they were wrongly blamed. The trouble is it seems to have scared people off from going back as well as the car park had been mostly empty since they re-opened.

I said just the same to OH, that the film was too long! I think Eddie Redmayne is a superb actor though to pull off being Lily as well as Stephen Hawking. You couldn't have 2 more different characters to play!

I am the same driving down the unlit lanes round here at night. As you say, the oncoming lights dazzle so I can't see the kerb/verge edges. My last car had an extra light come on that was trained on the kerb if you turned the steering wheel left or right, then went off on the straight. I'm missing it now!

It's good your scan/xray has been done now, so what happens next? Will you have to go back to the hospital for the results or your doctor?

Frank, OH paid his tax on line over a week ago. He also does his SA form on line too. Just make sure you get on the HMRC site in future because, as you say, there are plenty of sites willing to charge you for doing it! I see you've been skipping the light fandango again with the rug! I'd like to see Ros's blankets too if you manage to get a photo. She's been a hive of activity with that new machine hasn't she......a good present!! ;-)

David you NEED a car or you will go stir crazy!

Gill, it sounds like you might have needed a 'Queue Here' sign outside for your viewers!! I hope they are interested enough to make a good offer.

The talk last night was absolutely brilliant!! The man talked one and threequarter hours without a break and told us some fascinating things about the friary, all illustrated with colour slides and photos, including what they had learned about the 3 coffins they had opened. The high status stone sarcophagus with the sealed lead coffin inside had the skeleton of a woman aged about 60 who was buried in the 1200s. The photos showed a large clump of her reddish hair that had survived all this time. They could tell from her skeleton that she'd been well nourished and hadn't worked hard! The speaker said this particular lead coffin had corroded from water that had seeped in, but that another medieval sealed lead coffin they had opened in the north of England had contained a Knight and the contents were so well preserved they could do an endoscopy!! He said that they had to be careful and call in certain authorities when opening sealed lead coffins because of things like the Plague. The other 2 coffins contained much younger women with poorer diets and who had worked hard in their lives. One must have had a limp because of a hip defect and because she had large muscle attachments on her arm bones most likely used crutches. It seems a small colony of about 18-20 Fransiscan, grey robed, monks lived there and they lived by preaching and begging. The friary had gates to the streets at the front and the back of it and as these streets both led to the market it is thought likely they would have begged from the people passing on their way to the market. 5 of the monks were executed for inciting behaviour concerning trying to get Richard 11 back on the throne. A lot of the talk was about how they identify what they find, what was there before the friary, when it was demolished etc. They think a pit they found was where the foundations of the tower would have been and getting those out missed Richard 111 skull by about a centimetre. They have only excavated a small fraction of the site yet, but hope to dig up more carparks and a garden within the site in future. He said they would find many more graves on the site. It was well worth £2!!.

This is the exterior insulation website I was talking about earlier. This particular one is for the North West, but it's the same procedure who ever you go with. I will check them properly Jane before Monday. OH will be here with me, so I won't be on my own. I wouldn't let anyone in on my own.

We just want a price, as only part of the cost is covered by the government. We've heard of this procedure before so it's not new to us but we'd like to know a bit more about it. We won't be signing anything on Monday as we might end up selling this place, but it would be nice to know more about it for the future as we may have it done on the next property, if we don't have it done on this one.

I'm pleased things went well for you at the hospital Jane, I've been thinking about you all day and hoping everything would go okay for you <3
I know what you mean about the headlights on cars at night, it's bad enough being a passenger, I dread to think what it must be like as a driver.

Don't forget the library tomorrow Mel :-D :-D

LOL David you are on top form wth your jokes today :-D.......Keep looking for a car .You must know what a great difference it will make to your life. You stay holed up in your bungalow forever :-D..Just think of the freedom.

Frank as others have said ,don't worry your head about Lewis not being in touch. As a young 17 yr old he will have lots of things going on in his life.He still loves you to bits.

Well it has been a very long day .I left the house at 8.30.Chris dropped me off at the hospital. After wandering up and down various corridors I eventually found the right place to sign in at Xray.Did that and then went to the MRI Unit. After a half hour wait (I was early) got called through to change into the gown and then wait until it was my turn to go into that horrible claustrophobic tunnel.Luckily my scan only took about 15 minutes.I just kept my eyes shut for the whole time and kept breathing nice and slowly when I felt myself getting a bit of need to press the button to say Get me out of here. The poor elderly man before me had been in there for about 45minutes !!
Then I went to Normal Xray for my hips. That was a doddle.
I rang Chris to pick me up and then it was home for a wee and a quick cup of coffee before going to Northampton for lunch at Pizza Express and then the Cinema.
Chris was bored stiff with the film..Ann what did you think of Danish Girl?.I thought it was ok .Was a bit sad at the end though ,as I hadn't realised that Lily was going to die !!.It was a 2 hour film (bit too long).
Driving home was very difficult for me.We had taken the new car to give it a bit of a first run.Going was fine as it was daylight. But I now find I just cannot drive at night on unlit main roads with streams of headlights from on coming traffic .It got to the point where I felt quite scared as I couldn't see where I was going. The lights just seem to blind me.So we ended up coming off the main road back through some villages Orlingbury /Isham where there is little traffic...No more night driving for me unless it is just around here e.g. going to the station to pick up Hannah or Jess. But the car was a dream to drive and Chris as passenger says it is very comfortable and also quiet for a Diesel car......Parked it no problem Frank :-D :-D

Ann that is a shame for your fav Carvery to have had to shut like that (and then to been found fine) and now loo trouble.I am sure they will pick up their customers again as from what you say it sounds a good place.

Gill ,You have had a busy day with the viewings and then the man at the door If it was me I would be wary of people now cold calling on doorsteps trying to sell any kind of home improvements. I thought they had put a stop to that.(Might be wrong)Please check out the company before letting them in on Monday.
I am going to go now and get a snack. Not sure what ,but I feel quite peckish.

Evening all

It's been quite a blowy day but dry for most of the time until late this afternoon when the heavens just opened ,with the wind blowing the rain it looked just like fog sweeping across the road.
We went to stock up with bits from Makro this morning and called at sons to drop some things off for them.

I wouldn't be too bothered about not hearing from Lewis Frank ,he's a young man now and probably has lots going on, i'am sure you'll hear from him soon .
Ros has been busy again ,i'd love to see the latest blankets/covers that's she's made ,the last one's she made were lovely ,she's making use of the new machine ,did she manage to sell her old one ?

The carvery must have lost a lot of money being closed over christmas Ann ,i suppose they do have to be careful when people have been ill but if there was any thing wrong Environmental Health would have found it ,what a shame they are now having trouble with the loo's , makes you wonder fi they will be able to keep going losing so much money like that, it would take a lot of making up i should think .

How lucky was that Gill everyone just missing each other ,i hope you get a buyer this time .
I wondered what the exterior insulation was too and how it is done .
I did see the Back in Time at Christmas ,they are all good we like them .

Library day tomorrow Mel ,don't forget , i meant to ask how OH's knee pain was now is he walking ok now ?

Frank Report 27 Jan 2016 17:31

Great programme on NAT. Geo this afternoon, also on EDEN.

Gill what is the exterior insulation, is it something they paint on the brickwork. ??

David, where do you find your JOKES. I liked both of them !!

We haven't seen any sunshine here today. The rain was quite heavy this afternoon. Ros went to Tesco and said the rain was flooding across the main road.

She has finished her last blanket/cover. So tomorrow it will be the big tidy up.

I will ring Tony, to see if he's going "Out to Play" tonight. Football at the pub. ;-) ;-)

I hope Jane got on allright this afternoon at the Cinema, and left plenty of room for her new car.

I managed to trip over a rug this afternoon, landed on the sofa so didn't come to any harm. ;-) ;-) ;-)

Might try to get back later.

Gillx Report 27 Jan 2016 16:55

Afternoon all

Funny day weather wise, it's been a mixture of sunshine and heavy showers, with a very high wind. I noticed this morning that some of the roof tiles have come loose and fallen onto the guttering, so OH will have to put them back before someone notices or we have a leak on the corner of the front bedroom. Luckily I don't think either of the people viewing today noticed, or if they did, they didn't say anything.

I'm pleased to hear you managed to sort your tax out Frank, did the link help or had you already done it before I posted it? Yes I agree with everyone else, at 17 Lewis will have other things on his mind. He'll be in touch when he's ready. You know he loves your both so don't worry.

I wonder how Jane got on at the hospital, I've been thinking about her all day. Hope it went well for her.

Yes I think it might be a good idea to keep Cas in Liz with all this wind, she'll end up like a kite LOL.

I like your blonde joke David.

It sounds like the new carvery is having a run of bad luck Ann, at least they have had a clean bill of health so to speak which I'm sure everyone will be aware of. Pity about the toilets now, but once they are fixed everything should be back to normal for them.

Well, what a day I've had, the lady who wanted to bring her daughter with her came an hour later than arranged as her daughter couldn't pick her up until later, apparently her daughter has a 9 month old son, who wasn't well. Thankfully the Agent rang me to let me know. They arrived five minutes earlier than the new arranged time and only stayed about 10 minutes as the daughter wanted to get back to her baby. While they were here the lady asked a few more questions and as they left the daughter said our place was nice.

Then 10 minutes later the next couple arrived, they were early and again were only here a short time too. I noticed they were looking at the bungalow next door but one as that's on the market as well, so I'm not sure which one, if any, they will choose.

At the time the lady and her daughter should of been here I noticed a young man at the door and when I opened it he was selling exterior insulation. OH and I have been thinking about getting it if this place doesn't sell soon, so I've made an appointment for him to return for a chat on Monday when OH is off work. Apparently we can get help off the government for some of the cost. Talk about good timing.

Everyone seemed to miss everyone else. They arrived one after the other with enough time in between for them not to see each other. I don't know what I'd of done if the two viewing's had overlapped or if the first one had been on time. I'll just have to wait to hear back from the Agent now, to see if anyone is interested.

If we do sell then we might need the information about the exterior insulation for the next property. The funny thing is the insulation people are based in Ellesmere Port........I used to live there years ago ;-) ;-) Small world isn't it ???

Afternoon All,

Yes I hope you get on ok today Jane. It will be good to hear from you later. It sounds like your blood results weren't of any great concern so that's good.

I hope the viewings are going well Gill. :-)

Frank I agree with Liz, I wouldn't get in a tizzy about not getting phone calls. At Lewis's age, he will have far more consuming thoughts in his head and will just unintentially forget at times. ;-)

The new carvery down the road was shut for a few weeks twice recently and the last time it was all over the Christmas period. It turned out that several people had reported being ill after going there and twice Environmental Health had gone in and ripped the place apart. Both times the results were that the place had no problems and that the people had picked up their infections elsewhere!! They must have lost thousands of pounds over the Christmas period!!! Today they were closed again..........now they have problems with the toilets...........some people have no luck do they! We have always found the place to be very clean and the chef always checks the meat temperatures with a thermometer before carving which you don't see elsewhere unless it's done in the kitchen.
