Morning Anng and all,

Slept well and I am up having a coffee before ringing the docs at 8.30am. Its 17 degrees here and grey sky but pc says partly sunny so we'll see.

AnninGlos Report 22 May 2026 08:10

Good morning all 17 degrees already so it is going to be another warm one. Apparently it was wet and cold where daughter lives yesterday. I hope that is not going to be the case while I am up there. cold and wet there and sizzling at home (so the garden suffers).
I slept ok, it was very warm in bed at0600 but I did doze off and didn't get up until 0715. Leg was pinching a bit then.

U3a Photography this afternoon but might get a bit done in the garden this morning. I did sort a few pots out and moved some around a bit on the gravel about 6pm yesterday so I know where some of the new plants are going.

Annx was it Bidens the daisy?

Well I was a naughty girl this morning and I took a pill. I have been much better today and hav'nt had that horrid pain in my chest and a hot feeling in my tum. I had a plain ham sandwich for lunch with a glass of water and two digestive lights and another glass of water. After cleaning the girl nest out I cam ein and had a cup of half milk and half hot water.

Tonight I had a fruit scone with a spred of butter and an even thinner spread of jam and a tin of rice pudding and a glass of water and then another glass a bit later as I had'nt taken my pill and jointace.

I have to ring the surgery at 8.30am in the morning to get the doc to ring me back later in the day.

SuffolkVera Report 21 May 2026 20:34

Good to hear from you Gwyn and to know that you are OK.

Mel, you should try to have another word with your doctor about this indigestion you get so much. If he doesn't put you back on the tablets he might at least give you some advice on diet. Would it help if you ate at more regular times? That was nice of your neighbour to give you a bottle of rose.

I'm glad your optician's appointment went well AnnG. I've never heard of the Amsler chart so I'll be googling that now. Your new garden patch will look a picture when everything is in bloom. I haven't got a blue penstemon so I must look out for one.

Annx, I am pleased that the doc isn't too concerned about DVT but that rheumatology department needs a good overhaul by the sound of it. I am sure they are busy but for the phone not to be answered and not to get a call back when promised is not acceptable. It just adds to the stress for the poor patient. It's sensible of your OH to put everything down in a letter. I'm a great believer in getting things in writing. I hope he gets seen very quickly now.

It has been a dry day of sunshine and clouds. This morning the temperature was comfortably warm but this afternoon it got very warm and quite humid. I'm so behind with all the jobs I need to do in the house and garden that I decided after lunch I'd have to get some work done in the garden even though it wasn't comfortable working outside. I managed to garden for about an hour and a half but I was wilting and headachy by then but I feel satisfied that I made a bit of a difference. I went out again about 7.30 to water the pots and it was a more comfortable temperature by then. I'm going to try and get out into the garden for an hour early tomorrow before it really hots up.

We just had pizza for our meal tonight. OH will occasionally have it if I've gone out for a meal with the "girls" but I rarely do. However I had some in the freezer and didn't feel much like cooking so I thought it would be quick and easy. I ate it very slowly as that's something that will give me indigestion if I'm not careful.

It's like an oven in my bedroom at the moment so I think I'll get out my big floor standing fan so I can just switch it on if the heat is keeping me awake. I hope we all sleep well with no aches, pains, indigestion or restless legs.

Annx

Annx Report 21 May 2026 18:55

Evening All,

Another day of cloud or sunshine, but warmer again. I did a post last night but lost it somewhow and lost the will to do it all again as it was quite late for me!

OH saw the doctor yesterday and she wasn't worried about DVT with his legs, but couldn't say why they ached so much. ( we ourselves wonder if it is the new medication as it says it can be one of the many side effects) She, like the nurses, said not to do any more injections till he has seen rhuematology, but that the antihistamine wouldn't cause it and that the rash may come back and to take them again if it does. (it has worsened to some degree now, and the circle of red jamjar lid size where he did the injection is very pink again, so he has today). He left another message with the hospital yesterday, but still no response, so I am driving him there in the morning as it's been 6 days of attempted calls and messages left now and he can't carry on like this. In case he can't see anyone, he is going to type out a letter of all that's happened, the attempts to contact them with no response and the nurses and doctor he's been to see who have advised him he needs to be seen by rhuematology urgently and leave that with them.

I decided it was a grey area about the 'face to face' appointments when I looked it up as well and wondered if it was nurses as well as GPs. The NHS site said surgeries should explain about these appointments on their websites and to write to the Practice Manager if they don't. Ours doesn't.

I remember about those awful floods AnnG and the talk would bring back memories for you! No water for two weeks is a long time. Fancy that cloud hanging around, very strange. I haven't heard of that Amsler chart so perhaps it's new. Yes we have the boy racers on pavements here, some on EV bikes too. It's very dangerous.

Our farm shop sells the bunches of watercress. Asda sell it, but just in the bags. That was nice of your neighbour to give you a present Mel. I hope you didn't start the wine as that can cause indigestion as the alcohol irritates the stomach lining. As Mandy said, it could have been the gluten in the bread as that can affect some people as well. Maybe you should get a telephone appointment as it's not getting better and you just stopped them because they didn't say it should be gradual.

The schools here have just the week off like where Mandy is. Yes it does lead to all sorts of problems when children in a family attend schools in different areas. It leads to the increasing school appeals when a child doesn't get a school place in the same area as other children in the family too.

I went to the Garden Centre in the sticks with OH today and bought some Petunias for three pots, Bacopa in white and pink and a yellow petalled daisy like plant I have forgotten the name of now. I need more, but they were in a sweltering greenhouse and I couldn't bear it any longer. They are in our greenhouse now ready for hardening off and bringing out in the day.

Cleaned the girls nest boxes out and done some weeding out the back and the front of the bungalow.

My runners still hav'nt come up in that compost so I bought some more seed and am going to do them in the new stuff. Just come in for a drink as its 20 degrees here now.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 May 2026 16:03

I have just walked back from the opticians and it is sunny and 22 degrees out there now. and taking your life in your hands time bith boy racers on bikes on the pavements I dread to think what will happen if they hit anyone.

A slight change in my sight so new glasses ordered. My glasses are never cheap strange astigmatism correcting lenses and go dark in the sun as well. However they are not very much dearer than last year. In fact the actual frames are apparently still at last year's price.

I have been given an Amsler chart. Anyone else had one of these? It is a grid 4 inches square, small squares 20X20 small black dot right in the centre. Wearing normal glasses cover each eye in turn, hold the chart 12 inches from your face look at the dot in the centre. if any of the grid lines appear to be 'wavy' or if there are any broken or distorted lines or any blank patches. go straight to your optometrist.
I have to say it is different to previous instructions to check the door frame.

Cataracts hve grown slightly but not yet reached the NHS level to stop driving. So agreed to leave that for another year.

Spent 40 minutes in the garden. Planted out into my new garden area (cleared by Jake) one blue Pensteman and on Nepeta Magic Dragon. Also transplanted into there a Honesty which a frien gave me. There are already two of the arge sedums which look lovely in late summer/Autumn. It is not a very large patch and I have one more Nepeta (Pursion blue) to plant there as well. I already a month ago planted a blue Aquilegia and a peach coloured Geum (Mai Tai).

This morning I also potted on and out three tomatoes. two garden centre bought and one from seed. Money Maker and Alicante for medium sized tomatoes from the garden centre and one a small one I grew lasy year Sungold (I think).

Resting now before my walk to the opricians.

Yes, you can absolutely still buy watercress in a bunch! It remains a popular, traditional way to sell the leafy green, particularly in the UK.Traditional bunches are sold at greengrocers, farm shops, and select supermarkets. You can also easily find them through online delivery services:Online Grocers: You can order fresh bunches (typically around 100g) directly from online greengrocers like Online Fruit & Veg or Finestfruits.Specialty & Organic: For high-quality or organic bunches, you can check out platforms like Abel & Cole or Fine Food Specialist.Direct from Growers: Many dedicated growers, such as those listed by Watercress Bunches, offer delivery straight from the farms. If you prefer shopping in person, your best bet is a local independent greengrocer or market stall, where bunches are often displayed with their stalks intact or lightly banded.Bunches — Watercress | Health, Recipes & More.

Mandy's children round her are only getitng a week off, I wonder if they get more on other holidays?

Suns out here now and it all looks brighter. I need to do some housework like hoovering and dusting and I need to tidy the kitchen badly! When I am into my miniatures everything else goes out the window. I think its because I don't have anyone else here to do things for. I feel sometimes I have no purpose.

Glad we've heard from Gwyn as I posted the other day we had'nt heard from her lately.

Watercress in a bunch now thats a memory as Iv'e not seen that for a few years now. I bought some last week as I like it in a ham sandwich.and I have a bit over so the girls will get that.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 May 2026 10:18

Gwyn yes it was an interesting talk remembering an uncomfortable time. We were luckily provided with bottled water. Thousanda of volunteers were used to provide this. I can remember there was a small very local to us garden centre where the bottles were kept, we had to drive in to this GC, even if we were just going to Gloucester on the road that went past it as the road was diverted. whether we wanted water or not as we drove past where the bottle were somebody opened the car bott and threw in two or three bottle. (Litre bottles). Even if you said you didn't need it you had li like it or not.

Some places further out in the country had water bowsers.

I was thinking Gwyn when you said about your local schools, one taking two weeks now and one in October. that would be hard if parents had one at each school. Or maybe that is not likely to happen.

Gwyn in Kent

Good morning all :-)

I'm OK thank you. I don't know where the time goes sometimes.
When I hear people talk of doing something 'to help pass the time' I think
"Well I could do with a few more hours in the day, some days"

Sorry to hear that you are still suffering indigestion problems, Mel.
It certainly sounds like you need some help and advice, as that must be so uncomfortable. I hope you feel better later.

I hope Annx's OH has got rid of the rash. That sounds a severe reaction. I too was advised to use a high factor suncream, after I had that malignant melanoma removed from my face several years ago. At first, I bought one specifically for the face from Boots, which came in a small tube. I was getting through them quite often, so spoke to the pharmacist there about the efficiency of their other range and now use Soltan 50, Protect and Moisturise, which is suitable for face too.
I use it summer and winter, whenever I'm going outside.

Poor Vera, you do have such broken nights, but always seem to just about get by, as you have such a busy life. I hope you can be more rested and well, so that each day is easier for you.

AnnG,That sounds an interesting talk about the flood. What a terrible effect on your water supply too. We take these things for granted don't we, until something happens.? I wash my hands dozens of times a day, so would really miss not having a ready supply. Having said that, in our early married life, we lived in Cyprus and in the summer months, our supply was restricted to just part of the day. Our supply was cut in the afternoon, but you soon learned to get up, showered and get the washing done, then draw off a few bottles of water to get you over the restricted time. You knew not to waste it, a habit that has stayed with me, which helped, when we were one of the first areas in the country here to have compulsory water meters many years ago.
I hope you have some gentle warmth and not severe heat, so that you can get your lovely new plants sorted.

Mandy., Good to read that poor Max is now so much better and his usual self. You must have been so worried about him.
Yes, the local school is on 2 weeks holiday, at the moment. I think some of the staff and several families rather like that, as they can go for their annual family holiday, while it is a bit cheaper than in the full height of summer. Another local primary school has their 2 weeks holiday in October instead, so I think to a certain point, there is some flexibility in individual schools, about what suits them, as long as the required number of days in school are completed.

Yesterday it was so cold, when I was waiting for a bus home from another town. They are infrequent, at the best of times and when I came out of the opticians, I must have just missed one by a minute or two. The wind was really cold and The Channel really choppy, when I was on the coast road. Today it is supposed to be warming up, but I will take a coat, if I go into town. I don't really want much, but fancy some watercress and there are not many places that sell it in a bunch, these days, so I'm going to see if the weekly greengrocery market has some, now that it's in season.
I have some newsletters to deliver too, so hopefully will get at least some of them done. There are not that many, but they are widely spread addresses, so quite a bit of walking to do them all in one go.

Morning all,

Overcast again and it's 14 degrees ,should get warmer later and really hot over the bank holiday weekend, children break up tomorrow for a week .

Thinking of school and children ,we haven't heard from Gwyn lately so hope she's OK and Ann didn't post yesterday so hope everythings OK with them .

Mel I would ring your doctor today as it's a Bank holiday weekend and you don't want indegestion pain all weekend ,I take Lanzoprozole to calm my tummy before i take my tablets ,so maybe its one of your tablets that's casing the indegestion.
Could it have been the bread you had with your soup as bread gives me indegestion.

Anng hope you get on OK at the opticians .

Shopping day so we wnat to get off a bit earlier if we can .

good morning all. 15 degrees here according to Alexa, that is a big jump.

slept quite well last night, only got up twice for the loo.
Might sort out the pots for the new plants this morning, opticians this afternoon, so that is a walk there and back as well.

Mel, you need to see your GP now I think, the indigestion suggests that you need help to get rid of it. Hope it eases for you soon.

I only drink boiled water anyway. I boil a kettle in the morning and then lunchtime I have a glass of water from the kettle when it has cooled. When I moved down here from Suffolk I could'nt stand the water. I loved the suffolk water. Got a filter jug but still boil it and cool it to drink.

Hope you all get enough sleep tonight to keep you going for tomorrow.

I have had raging indigestion since having my soiup fr lunch. I looked up about Omeprazole today and they say you should'nt be cut off from it but it should be a gradual process. The doc never told me that just said to stop taking it and use Gaviscon Yuk.............................. it makes me heave.
