Mel Fairy Godmother Report 25 May 2026 14:21

My pc keeps throwing a wobbley and telling me I need more space so I turned it off for a while when I had lunch.

Its 30 degrees here so I am staying inside till it cools down later and then I will go out and do some watering.

Thats awful they hav'nt got your water supply back to normal Mandy but it sound like you are getting a bit through to stock up on some for during the day.

I need to wash my hair which is always nice when its hot just to let it dry and I also need to wash some pots so I can pot up some of my cutting into bigger pots.

Stay cool all. thinking of our Vera in this heat.

Morning all,

The sky looks quite hazy with cloud so the sky doesn't look so blue today but my goodness it's hot .
Still low water pressure and apparently its not just a leak there's also a problem with a pump so some places are still without water ,I also read that tge men doing the burst pipe went home at eleven o'clock last night and still weren't about first thi g this morning.

Anglian water are now going to deliver water to the vulnerable as the water shouldn't be fixed until about 4 o'clock this afternoon .
When I turned the cold tap on this morning it hummed and vibrated, so it's air in the pipes .
We have all our windows and curtains closed to keep the heat out then I fling the windows open later in the evening to let the cool air in.

Ann is it one of those tops on the weed killer that you have to get hold of and nip and pull forward then turn , I had a job with a nozzle on a spray, I didn't realise you had to nip and pull and was just trying to turn it like most spray bottles

Gwyn I hope your getting my email photos OK as you haven't mentioned them ,I don't want you to think I've missed you out .

Coffee time now bit late this morning as we've been chatting to Colins sister.

Annx Report 25 May 2026 11:12

Oh I managed to miss you somehow Gwyn. Yes we do the same with the curtains to keep the sun and heat out. OH was up at 6.00am and opened the bathroom windows wide and patio door, but they are closed now the sun is moving round and it is hotter than inside. We are staying inside now till evening. I nipped to the Co-op first thing and it was bliss in there with their air conditioning, so I lingered a bit.

I hope Mandy has the water back to normal now and that they fixed the burst main.

Morning All,

I slept well with the sheet up to my waist. Our bedrooms face south east so get hot in the morning and the back of the bungalow faces north west so gets hot in the afternoon. I got up at just after 8.00am and went out and watered the new plants and the potted Hostas and a Camellia in a pot, pulled a few weeds and couldn't get a weedkiller nozzle to work at all. OH then appeared and as usual it was 'what did you do to the nozzle' and 'you must have done something' etc. I hadn't used it before, so told him it could have got knocked over in the shop for all we know, but I think he preferred to think I'd done it somehow. Anyway he couldn't get it to work either, so I think we'll have to get another and then we can unscrew the nozzle on this one and empty the contents into the new one once it's empty. Oh he does make a song and dance over trivial things at times and I'm always in the identity parade! lol. Next time something goes wrong I think I'll line myself up with our four teddy bears on the settee and ask him if he recognises the one responsible for the crime.
:-D

Oh Mel, they were very tiny seeds and it's good they germinated so well but it sounds like you will need some magnifying glasses on to prick them out. My duvet is the same and soon gets a 'thin' end despite giving it a shake when the bedclothes are changed.

I see what you mean about the probable fluctuating temperatures at your daughter's AnnG. I hope you get your packing done before it hots up much more. The PC is saying 28 degrees here now and I expect it's the same where you are.

I'm washing a throw Vera and doing some admin, but like you won't be doing much else.

25 now. packing is a slow job today I think.

Gwyn in Kent Report 25 May 2026 10:48

Good morning all.

25 here so far, but indoors it feels cooler, as we've had the north facing bathroom window open overnight and the south side of the house has curtains closed.

I hope you all manage the heat OK today., especially Mandy with her troubled water supply.
South-East Water are in the news again, as yet another of their areas are having to rely on bottled water, at the moment.
I will be staying indoors and not venturing outside until this evening.

Mel
Was it definitely a queen wasp you saw?
With you mentioning hornets in the same post, I wondered if you had seen the dreaded invasive Asian Hornet, which needs reporting, so that the nests can be destroyed before the hornets destroy so many pollinators.

Keep safe everyone.

Morning girls,

Its 23 here at the mo clear blue sky and not a cloud in sight. My pc says a cooling trend over the next four days.

Slept wellish woke for the loo very hot and went back to bed as it was 6am and threw the covers off.slept then till 8.30am. I think I may have put the duvet on another way round as usually the bit over me has hardly any stuffing in it. May have to take it all off again and find my thin bit.

Anng you're the same as me then the front of the house faces north so stays nice and cool and I don't open any windows as htat make it hot in here.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 May 2026 09:00

Good morning all. 21 degrees so a bit below Vera but it already feels sticky. I slept OK finally woke at 0815 and now have towels in the wash.

Packing today and tryine not to get over heated. luckily the front of the house faces north so doesn't get full sun like my bedroom at the back.

Good morning ladies

8.20 am and it’s already 23 degrees. It’s going to be a hot one. I need to do some washing but I won’t be doing much else. Try to stay cool and have a good day.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 May 2026 22:01

It is just under three weeks Ann. Some of the days in the second week are forecast 13 degrees. Other days 20 so you can see the problem.

I can”5 pack last minute as I need to do everything in the spare room and daughter will be in there on Tuesday. So packing tomorrow it is.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 May 2026 20:59

Annx I have just watered as its a lot cooler out there now and when I did the shed your seeds have come up like mustard and cress. I sowed them thickly but this is manic the amount of seedlings to prick out. I shall have to ask a neighbour if she wants some. I'm so pleased.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 24 May 2026 18:53

Still unbearably hot here and it’s going to get hotter over the next two days. I think I could cope with the hot days if it cooled down a bit more at night.

Mel, please keep your hornets and wasps down there,

I hope you still have a water supply Mandy. We do rely on just being able to turn a tap on and get clean water and it’s a shock when we can’t.

I’m a last minute packer. A couple of days before I go away I have a think about what I am going to take and make sure nothing needs washing but I never actually pack anything till the last minute.

I managed to do another hour in the garden first thing this morning and now I must go and do a bit of watering. I’ve just had a shower but there’s no way I could face using the hairdryer so goodness knows what my hair looks like now.

I hope we all get some sleep tonight. I’m not optimistic. OH, bless him, has offered to swap rooms with me for a couple of nights but it doesn’t seem fair to turf him out of his room.

Annx

Annx Report 24 May 2026 17:48

Yes Mandy's knitted bunnies are very cute! What a nuisance you have a burst pipe nearby Mandy. I hope they manage to repair it tonight and that you don't run out. Interesting all the causes AnnG, but not an easy job for the workmen in this heat.

It's 28 degrees here now and I asked the Asda delivery driver if he was nearly done and he said he'd only just started! At least it should hopefully be a bit cooler later for him.

I think you are doing the best you can packing an assortment of layers to mix and wear AnnG. It may be a few degrees cooler further north. I hate packing clothes and can never decide till the last minute except with underwear which I usually get packed a week before along with whatever else I can. How long are you going for this time?.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 24 May 2026 17:18

I keep meaning to say I have had a queen wasp in the kitchen today and the first time I swatted it I missed and I thought it went on the floor. Now you can never see things on the kitchen carpet as it has such a busy pattern and I was worried I would'nt find where it fell. Then I heard a buzzing and it was back on the window so the second time I hit it I made sure i'd got it and took it out the back door and squashed it on the patio. Twice been out on the patio today and twice seen a Hornet, one under the cover of the patio and one flying across the pond. I think its time to get the jam jars out with the hole in the lids, they never fail with a nice bit of cheap jam in water inside.

My weather thing on the pc tells me today is a record high but tomorrow its going to be 29 degrees and Tuesday its going to be 30 degrees. Its still 27 here now.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 May 2026 16:38

always Mel, always. Never could pack sparingly.

I did go and sit down the garden under the shade of the tree and it was pleasant thne I cut off some long suckers reachig for the sky on a rambling rose, using the lopper. now come indoors as it is still 27 degrees.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 24 May 2026 14:42

I have not been outside as I have been trying to sort out clothes for Lake district Not an easy task when it says it is 26 degrees out there and I have to pack knowing it is quite likely going to be 17/18. so I have sorted a selection of long and short sleeved tops that can be wore together a couple of sweaters and a cardigan. good job I am not flying as my small case has overflowed into a carrier bag.
