Mel Fairy Godmother Report 17 Jun 2020 17:17

Rang the docs and spoke to the receptionist and she's going to tel the doc and she should come back to me.

So Frank you have a day off preparing the meal tonight so only have to cook the veg and heat the chicken.

It seems to rain every afternoon here and today is no acception as it been thundering down and stopped oh mowing this afternoon. He did some this morning.

Glad your having a rest from the hard work you have been doing in the garden Ann. It will all be there when you want to get on with it again. G's cough sounds nasty and I hope it is only hayfever and something can be done about it.

Gill I can't find the valance as I have had the cupboard out with all the bedding in it. I may have it up the caravan but if I find it I will send it to you. Its brown so should go with the quilt cover as I think that has a little brown in the leavs of the roses.

Hope the thunder passed Vera and her internet did'nt go out.

Its the F & C van tonight so I may just have some chips and do myself a couple of eggs to go with them.

Gillx Report 17 Jun 2020 15:06

We have lovely sunshine, OH has just watered the large conifers down the bottom of the garden, we noticed some of the branches are going brown, we're not sure if it's lack of water or they're just not getting enough light with other branches in front of them. Being evergreen trees those branches won't go green again, but if it is lack of water then the other branches should be okay now they've had a drink..

We've had weather like you Ann, rain later in the day and into the night and lovely sunshine most of the day. Pleased to see you're okay, hope the rock lifting aches and pains stop soon. Yes, painting the eyes rather than sunglasses for your winter scene would look better lol. I hope you manage to visit a garden centre tomorrow and it's not to crowded. I'm still a bit nervous to go out as I think it's to soon at the moment. The virus is still around and not gone anywhere and some people don't care how close they get to one another, which makes it difficult for the sensible ones to shop in safety. It's difficult to know where's the safest places to go. Hopefully in a few weeks it should calm down a bit, so you should be able to go to the places you want then.

I hope the storm isn't to bad by you Vera and it doesn't put your leccy out.

That was nice of Ros to do the veg for you Frank, that'll save you a job later. It sounds like the storm is heading towards you now, if you can hear the thunder. I don't know what time Jane's treatment is, just that it's sometime today. I hope it's all going as well as it can for her and she's not in to much discomfort over the next few days.

AnninGlos Report 17 Jun 2020 14:56

Just had an hour of very heavy rain could hear thunder in the distance but not here.

went to Norton Garden centre, our small local one, very quiet there but no new plants and a bit disappointing really. I wanted Sage, Thyme and basil and they had none of them so we will have to go elsewhere for those We did buy a sedum and two Sempervivum so now have to find containers for those. Unfortunately they were left out so have been caught in the heavy rain.

Annx Hope all is well with your OH when he sees the doc. My OH sounds like some smokers in the mornings sometimes as he gets a lot of catarrh in his throat. I have suggested the doctor but he has not been yet.

I have found that our hairdresser has a facebook page so have tried contacting her on there. It says that she is not making appointments until she has a date and will then first contact all the people whose appointments she had to cancel and then work through the remainder. so we have to wait and see.

I do agree with you re schools and exams. I think there will be those who have studied and managed to progress and those who have not bothered who have not progressed. But there will also those who although they tried to study the subjects had no support at home and are not bright enough to work things out without the constant support they seceive in class. difficult for the teachers.

Mel. the upset tum could be part of the infection or the antibiotics. If that red has spread further I don't think you should leave it, you don't want to ens up with sepsis.

Frank Report 17 Jun 2020 14:14

Yes Vera, It has come over as BLACK AS YOUR HAT HERE. Ros has been cutting back the Wisteria, I have told her to leave it, as BARRY can do it when he's next here. Will she take any notice. NO. !!! I think we are in for a BIG STORM before long. I can hear the thunder in the background,

What time is Jan's treatment this afternoon,?? I hope it all goes well, and she doesn't feel too poorly after it. xxx Ros's Mum had a real rough time of it, with her treatment, but I expect treatments are a little different to 40 years ago.

I have read yesterday's paper, and now starting my book again. It is so dark indoors now, I think I will need the rating light on.

Unbeknown to me, madam has done the veg for tonight, with roasts and Parsnips. So all I will need to do is cook it. I will carve the chicken and wrap it in tin foil to heat up in the oven.

I have had a couple of small pork pies and a coffee. I will now see if Ros wants anything.

Stay safe everybody. xxxx

I was about to start posting but the storm that’s been promised for the last two days has suddenly hit us so I am going to turn the computers off in case the leccy goes.

Morning All,

Dull here this morning but boy the rain again last night and thunder! That's two nights of rain giving the ground a good soaking, but sunny in the day which is just what you want. I think more rain is forecast today, but I hope it isn't at lunchtime so we can eat outside again. With doing word wheels and crosswords after lunch, we have persevered and managed for the first time ever to complete or almost complete a few cryptic ones lately. That wouldn't have happened without the lockdown!

We are fine thanks, apart from the rock lifting aches and pains! OH did ring the doc yesterday who then wanted to see him about his hoarseness he keeps getting some evenings since that cough he had for ages. He had to wear his mask (hated it!) and said no-one else was in the surgery. As a precaution she has referred him to the hospital but couldn't see or feel anything. He has started to get streaming eyes some evenings too so I am wondering if it may be hay fever causing it. I am glad he is getting checked out.

I have been busy getting on with my painting as we both needed to rest our backs and knees after the rock moving and lifting. I need to paint some more today as I now have a face with no eyes which isn't a good look! I said to OH I could always paint sunglasses, but they don't look right with a wintry scene. We did set off to another local garden centre yesterday thinking everyone would be at the shops that have opened up instead........wrong! There was a queue outside so must have been up to capacity inside, so we came back home again and may try another tomorrow. I need some bug and fungicide spray you can use on crops.

I've said what precautions my hairdresser is taking and he is hoping to open on the 4th July. My appointment is on the 14th July, but I received a colour test patch to use in the post the other day, so he is thinking ahead and removing the need to go to the salon and get one.

OH has internet meetings every day this week and I have a Focus Group meeting on line now with the research centre which will be a first! It suits me fine as I haven't been able to go to any for a while, as the place they hold them now has the carparks being dug up and building work done and it was too far for me to walk.

Frank you really should have gone to the doctor's if Ros thought you'd had a stroke. I hope you feel a bit better today.

Mel I hope you can get some different antibiotics for that bite as it seems to be getting worse now doesn't it.

It's a shame you had to go to A&E Jane, but good they didn't keep you in as you say. <3 <3 Best wishes for today <3 <3 You must be fed up with the hospital walls by now.

It seems we are all doing the right thing in being a bit cautious and wiping etc. Some friends that met up last week decided to stay inside with a door open, but an expert I watched on tv yesterday said the risk of getting the virus is 19 times greater indoors! She said it is safer outside with social distancing if you meet to chat, but take your own chair and plate and cutlery if you accept food.

That was nice to be able to see your sister Mandy. I still chuckle at Lacey asking for a Tea Party! The surprising things they say.

I don't really know the latest on this, but there has been talk of schoolchildren in some years redoing a year because they have lost the last few months and I think it was a third that have not been doing their schoolwork on lockdown. But why hold back the good children who have done their work? I feel strongly about this as I took and failed my 11 plus aged 7. (I was just told it was a test and was kept in at lunchtime to do it, so was upset and rushed through it). I coasted along doing the same maths etc and helped other children with their reading till I was the usual age 11 to take the exam again. Of course that made it hard for me at the next school as I had got used to finding everything easy for the last few years. :-S :-S

Better get lunch in the oven now and the sun is out!

Morning all,

Cloudy start here but its not raining and quite bright. Don't know if rain is forcast for this afternoon.

Thinking of our Jane today and hope this dos'nt upset her too much. Sending hugs and kisses and you are definately in all our thoughts. <3 <3 <3 <3

Had a really gurgley tum last night just before bed and had to go to the loo. I think it may be the pills as my tum has'nt rumbled like that for years.

Sorry Frank, forgot to proof read, stupis predictive text. yes I meant doctor. Please you seem a little better today but just take it easy. That is a nice lot of presents you have had in advance of Father's day.

Just walked round the garden, the large poppies and the poor Peonies didn't like the rain. In fact it finished the peonies off, they will have to be cut back now as they look awful. So pleased I took photos of them before.

I made a bee drinking place earlier in the week, not seen any bumble bees in it as yet but I did catch a photo of a thirsty snail this morning.

Good morning to you all,

THINKING OF JANE THIS MORNING AND SENDING LOVE> xxxx

AnninG, it would be nice to contact my "DAUGHTER" which I haven't been able to trace in over 20 years. I know you meant DOCTOR. lol lol

Had a reasonable night last night. I have had my COTs. No breakfast, so might have some lunch later. I am going in for a shower and shave soon, and put on a pair of shorts and T shirt. Then read yesterdays paper and my book.

My on My, didn't we have a THUNDER STORM last night. It started as a low RUMBLE and then all HELL was let lose. The rain was so heavy, that it was hitting the road, and bouncing onto the pavement. I bet it didn't last 5 minutes, and I doubt it did a lot of good. We need a nice gentle rain for a few hours during the night.

Ros had a phone call from her hairdresser yesterday, giving her a time and date for an appointment. As she tried to bleach her roots, she has to have a test on her hair, before she will treat it again. Something to do with the bleach in the product.

Harvey's Father's Day Present arrived yesterday. A CASE OF CRAFT BEER of all different sorts. So that will go down nicely, over the next week. Conrad and Jan gave me a pack of three. T SHIRTS. He had ordered them for himself, but he needed the larger size. Simon also rang yesterday. He and Sally are out on the Narrow Boat again. They set off last Saturday, and will be home Thursday, as Sally is working Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Eos bought a cooked chicken from Tesco's yesterday, so we will have that this evening, either will salad or Roasts and veg.

Very hazy sunshine this morning. There is so much cloud around, that I am sure we will get some wet stuff later.

Right mt dear friends, I am off for my shower. See you later.xxxx

Good morning all, a grey start to the day but dry so far. I think the garden had enough rain yesterday but I suspect there is more to come.
OH has gone to B&Q for a few bits while I wash the bedding. He went with all sorts of instructions including carrying a mask but I bet none of them are followed! Hopefully he will be safe.

Yes Gill I noticed Anx was not on yesterday so I too hope she is OK. Jane I am thinking of you today <3

Not sure what I have to do today, we may call round to the local garden centre for a couple of herbs as we emptied out some old herbs yesterday.

Gillx Report 17 Jun 2020 09:20

Morning all

A bit cloudy today but so far it's dry. We had thunder and lightening for ages yesterday afternoon and into the evening along with some rain, so the garden is happy. We watched a Blackbird collecting worms this morning, he was so busy he didn't notice us standing on the patio.

Good luck today Jane, I'll be thinking of you <3 <3 <3

How's your arm today Mel? What a mess you had to clean up, I hope all the sticky mess is cleared up now and you're not to achy. Thanks for the offer of the valance sheet, it would be easier to put under the mattress instead of struggling with the one I've got now. I have to keep straightening it each morning as it slips around while we sleep. I think we must move around a lot in the night lol.

How lovely to have an outing to look forward to Vera, I hope the weather is nice enough for you all to meet up and your Granddaughter has a wonderful birthday. It sounds like the Salon has everything in place ready for your hair appointment.

It must of been lovely to meet up with your sister Mandy

You were lucky managing to get your plants sorted before the thunderstorm AnnG. Our's went on for ages and the thunder was really loud, it kept making me jump.

How are you feeling today Frank, I hope you had a good nights sleep and feel better for it today.

No Ann yesterday, I hope everything okay and she's back on here today.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 16 Jun 2020 21:28

Mandy it was hot here this morning but this afternoon it rained and we had a thunderstorm so it was lucky we got all the plants in this morning. It must have been lovely to see your sister for a chat.

Vera I looked into the salon and nothing seems to have been done differently in there.. maybe it will be a good idea to phone and see what is happening, I will get OH to try.
I am pleased that you went to the garden centre, plants and their aquisition do cheer us up don’t they?

And I am sure that you will have a lovely time at the barbecue, I am quite envious.

I still have lots of photo albums that want wedding, one job on the list that has not got done yet.

Oh well back to Midsummer murders. Strange how I can watch these that I have seen before and not know who ‘done it’.

SuffolkVera Report 16 Jun 2020 20:52

Well, the promised showers didn’t materialise; we haven’t had a drop of rain all day. It’s been hot and humid and I feel as though the sky is pressing down on the top of my head. It will definitely be the fan on in the bedroom again tonight.

I’m sorry to hear that you are not very well Frank. Please let your doctor know. If it was a slight stroke that you had than he needs to know and put it on your records and if it was something else that was giving you these symptoms then he needs to find out what’s going on. Take care and look after yourself.

Ugh! That sounds a right mess in your cupboard Mel. I shouldn’t think you were very happy at having to clear it up on top of doing all the wiping down AND having a sore arm. I hope the antibiotics start to get hold of the infection soon.

AnnG, I did make myself go out to the local small garden centre. We made a joint decision not to go to our favourite large place as it’s a little distance from us and we would only have been able to go in, buy what we need and leave without even having a coffee. The local one was fine although some of the shelves were a bit sparse. I was able to get some fungus killer and bug killer but not the sort I usually buy. I also got some wallflower seeds. I thought a few plants in pots by the front and back doors will look colourful in spring and smell nice. I used to grow them at our old house and had them all in a bed that led up the path to the front door, but there I had plenty of garden space to start them all off in a proper seed bed. I’m not sure yet how I am going to sow the seeds here. I don’t have room for a seedbed and ordinary seed trays are too shallow so I haven’t worked out yet where I can sow the seeds till they are ready for transplanting. I expect I will manage to work something out. Of course you can’t go to a garden centre and not buy plants, can you? I only got a couple, a pink Argyranthemum and a lovely blue Scabious, and I have just the spots for them.

We had lunch when we got back and I did a couple of jobs and then I sat at the garden table under a big sunshade and sorted the last of the photos. At some point I need to go through all the ones we are keeping and label them with who they are but I reckon that’ll take weeks so might be a job for the winter.

Mandy, hairdressers can start again on 4th July under quite strict conditions. AnnG, have you tried phoning your hairdresser? Mine didn’t have a notice up but as soon as I heard that they could reopen I rang the salon number and the call was diverted to the owner’s mobile. As it happens she is the one who cuts my hair anyway. She told me that she was opening on 6th July and as I got in so quick I got the first appointment at 8.45 am. She told me everything that had been done to make the salon safe and what I need to do. I have got to buy or make myself a mask with elastic that goes round the ears. The ones we’ve got have the elastic right round the back of the head. I can’t wait to get a haircut.

I have a real outing to look forward to at the weekend. Granddaughter is 23 on Friday so my daughter suggested that, weather permitting, she does a birthday barbecue for her on Saturday. It will all be within the permitted boundaries; six of us socially distanced in her garden. We’ll be 3 lots of 2, daughter and granddaughter, grandson and his partner and OH and me. I’ve seen them all on Zoom at the weekly family quiz but haven’t seen them “in the flesh” for between 4 and 6 months so I am quite excited about it. I think it will feel strange to be going out for a social occasion after so long.

Jane, I hope the day goes well for you tomorrow. You’ll be in my thoughts.

I’m going to go and get yet another glass of water and then watch the last episode of “The Salisbury Poisonings”. I hope you all manage to get a decent night’s sleep tonight. Sweet dreams

Evening all,

Phew it's been hot today ,we went to spend an hour with my sister this morning ,sat out well apart under two garden brolly's ,i took a nice bunch of flowers as it was her birthday back in March and we hadn't been able to meet up ,we had a good old chat and a walk round their garden which was nice ,came home with a huge cucmber from their green house .

Jane i'm sure you know we will all be thinking of you tomorrow ,i hope it's not to long a day and it all goes well for you ,sending hugs and love <3 <3 <3 <3

Oh Frank you really should ring the doctor and get a check up, you have been falling about a lot lately and the slurred speech doesn't sound good ,look after yourself.

Mel ,i would see how the arm is in the morning and if its no better ring the doctor and just mention your arm is worse the sooner you can take some stronger antibiotics the better ,i hope it doesn't keep you awake at night .
I buy those marmalade mix tins where you just add sugar ,they are good ,i'm sure you use to be able to buy strawberry jam tins too .

AnnG i'm not sure when the hairdressers are aloud to start again ,ours comes to the house and she rang and said she was hoping to start again the second week in July so i have an appointment then but we will just have to wait and see if she will be able to come ,i do hope so as my hair is getting a bit hard to manage now it keeps coming forward into my eyes ,i think i need some clips !!!

I had three tins of marmalade mix in the uti room cupboard and two of them had leaked and made an awful black mess on other things and the bottom of the cupboard. They are now all in the bin. Lots more of my preserves to throw away too.I had forgotten they were in there.

O Frank I do think you shold get to the docotrs or somewhere they can maybe give you a check over. Take it easy and enjoy your book while the girls are doping their thing.

We have had thunder rumbling around most of the afternoon after a lovely warm sunny morning. I was just rescuing my strawberries from the water troughs when the van arrived with the shopping. Wiped all that down before lunch . Oh was cross it was raining this afternoon as he has been outside again working on something to do with the mower. Its raining steadily now and I wanted to clean the chickens out too but they won't get done now. If I go out there he will send me in again I know it.

Had three subs I did'nt want which the driver took back and credited our order.

Ann I had my Wiltshire ham hock and leek bake last night and it was very tasty and I had loads of ham in mine.

As to my arm I can't ask for stronger tablets yet as I have only taken two so must give those a chance. Its so hot and itchy though its driving me up the wall cos I am NOT going to scratch it.........

Gill I may have a valance that goes under the matress but at the mo I am having a sort through in the uti room cupboard. I just came in the kitchen for a little sit dopwn as my back was aching.

AnninGlos Report 16 Jun 2020 12:34

Good afternoon Vera and Frank. We have just driven round to see if there is any notice or any signs on the hairdressers window but there is nothing at all. We then very easily got our prescriptions but mine was apparently the last for the moment so will have to contact the nurse pharmacist to get more put on the pathway. I have at least 8 weeks supply so no immediate rush. We were surprised that the pharmacy was almost empty. OH went in with the prescription and I waited outside, then he came out and waited and just as it started to rain the assistant brought the order out to us. forecast is for thunder storms and it is certainly muggy. (I hate storms), rain has stopped for now but it is a good thing that we got all our planting done earlier. Yesterday we bought a couple of plants (a Nemesia and a diascia to put in a pot with a very small conifer in place of the pansies which have dies. It might be a small tree but it has huge roots so there was just room for those two plants, luckily they don't need a lot of space. We also bough a mint and a Rosemary as both of ours that we had have died, they were both quite old, so the herbs are looking quite fresh again now, if a bit small.

Frank did you ought to contact your daughter to get yourself checked over. It sounds a bit worrying to me. Do take care.

Vera, I think a combination of this muggy weather, not enough sleep and all the not knowing what is going to happen next/where the new infections are/how safe we are when we do go out makes us feel lethargic and tense. I hope you made yourself go to the garden centre. So far we have preferred our smaller local ones but we wondered if the Blue diamond was busy yesterday because people had not realised they were open before and thought they had just opened when the retail shops did. Also they had advertised to card holders that their clothes were all reduced. I did manage to get two pretty summery tops. Handbags were also good bargains at reduced prices. I resisted a proper handbag but did buy a small one similar to my 'bum' bag which I wear to town all the time and also wear out when walking as it holds my camera. This bag will do the same and will go across my body too.

Afternoon all

Another bright and sunny day today, next door has just finished cutting his lawns so it's nice and quiet again now.

If I was you Mel, I'd ring the doctors back it sounds like you need stronger antibiotics after all.

Good luck for tomorrow Jane. Sorry to hear you had to go to A&E but pleased you didn't need a transfusion in the end and could go home.

Sorry to hear you may of had a slight stroke Frank, take it easy and look after yourself. Maybe you should ring the doctor for some advice if you're not feeling up to par.

My Valance sheet is one of those that lay on top of the mattress, it has a bit of material before the valance, that covers the depth of the mattress, so when I put it underneath the mattress I had to push the excess material to the middle, otherwise the valance would of been on the floor. I have seen the ones you all have, like a flat sheet with the valance attached, if I had one of those it would of been easier to put under the mattress. It looks much better now with the valance just touching the floor as it was a little to high before with it going over a memory foam mattress topper as well as the mattress. Now it's where I want it, so you can't see under the bed where I've stored a few things.

Going to find something to watch off my set top box now, I have so many programmes on there is takes ages for them to load. There's a programme on Chernobyl I'd like to watch while OH is in bed off his night shift. He's' not keen on programmes like that, so I might watch it now while it's quiet.

Ros thinks I have had another slight STROKE, as my speech is slurred , and my movement isn't very good. I had a terrible night, and don't feel I had any sleep.

Dear old Martine in here ,with Ros, sorting out the conservatory. They have managed to get the "BED CHAIR" out into the garage, and she has taken photo's of it, and put it on a Selling website. It's hardly been used, and will do someone a good turn. She has now taken Ros to B & Q to buy some plywood panels to line the inside of the conservatory. B & Q will cut them to size. So I hope she has measured them correctly. I am the preverbal SPARE WHATS IT at the wedding. I have been sitting down the bottom of the garden, out of the way, but it looks like we might get rain, so I have come indoors to my armchair and book.

I do hope everything does well for you tomorrow Jane, my love and thoughts are with you. xxx Bless you. xxxx

Good morning Mel, AnnG and all

At the moment it’s very sunny and quite hot but it’s also very humid. We are supposed to have showers again this afternoon. It was a very sticky night and I had a fan going and sat up in bed reading till about 4 am. I got up about 8 but feel very lethargic.

I did think of going to our favourite large garden centre which is some distance away but it seems a bit of an effort if we can’t really mooch about and we can’t have lunch there as we usually do, so I think we are just going to pop to our small local one. I do need to go out as I am beginning to feel that I don’t want to be bothered.

That tick bite sounds as though it’s left a nasty infection Mel. You might need the stronger antibiotics. Have fun with the wiping down.

Enjoy your day everyone.
