Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Jun 2025 11:33

Morning girls,

Got up at just light for the bathroom and then went back to bed and lay with the covers off but the corner over my tum. Its 23 degrees here nw and I have seen a little rain and pc says heavier rain soon.

Just the shop to do today for a few bits like my paper and their nice ham and then it may be try and get some bits on ebay. ~They keep changing things and it takes me ages to get the listings right and I now have to put my postage in the title as they keep putting a much lower postage on it to get me to get their labels with tracking.

I do feel for you Vera in this heat with your poor head and not getting much sleep it drains you so much in normal circumstances but this heat makes it so much worse.

I did'nt like Death Valley I thought it was copying McDonald and Dodds with Jason Watkins. I watched all of those and thought they were good. Has'nt Timothy Spall lost a lot of weight.

We had a short sharp shower about 10.45am just enough to show on the car but not enough to wet the ground and now pc is telling me light rain and thunderstorms.

I started this post ages ago so I think I better post it before it disappears. Have a good day all whatever you are doing.

Morning all,

Little bit of cloud today but warm already and it should be scorchio later
I slept until about 2.45 and got up for the loo then laid there for about an hour woke again about 6.30 and then through till 7.55 so not a bad night I wasn't really hot as the bedrooms had cooled with opening all the windows in the evening.

Vera I think you cope well with all your headaches It can't be easy and all this heat doesn't help ,I hope all goes well with OH's appointment you'll have to find a shop with some nice air conditioning while you wait .
When I went in the co op yesterday it was lovely and cool ,I asked the cashier if people linger in the shop to cool off and she laughed and said you could bring a chair in and sit and read your book lol .

Ann fingers crossed its third time lucky with your cabinet hopefully this one is just the ticket .

Anng yes it would be just your luck it will rain now Cynth's back after all your watering

Going to have my cuppa now then hang some washing out. .

AnninGlos Report 21 Jun 2025 08:47

There is a sign on the bottom of my computer that says "rainy days agead" The garden would be pleased about that but it would be s*** law as Cynth is due back tomorrow so if it rains she won't have to water her garden!!!

25 degrees here now and I am just about to get dressed. I have spent an hour reading the mail on line. Or at least the bits I can read for free as many items are for subscription members only.

Morning Vera, AnnG and All,

I had my cold water bottle under my sheet tent last night and managed to sleep about 4 hours, went to the toilet and dozed a bit but got up at 6.00am and went outside and watered the plants I put in and the pots. I had the hose in one hand and the 'nasty weed' spray in the other as it is popping up somewhere every few days. I went round the front and sprayed some more bits in the drive.

I haven't watched those progs, but think they are recorded. I usually like Timothy Spall, he plays some good parts.

I don't think the sleep we get is good sleep when it's hot either AnnG and I seem to have no energy. I shan't do much today when it hots up more. As OH parked next to one when he popped in the pharmacy yesterday I noticed I could see right along a 'jitty' as we call them here. One of those paths/shortcuts that run behind a row of houses. They might be a good subject for your photography group, if there are any where you live of course!

I think you are often a couple of degrees cooler where you live Mel and tend to get more breeze. It can be sticky and stifling in some places. I think I would hate living in London where it can be very hot.

I hope you head is better today Vera and you don't complain, you suffer a lot with your headaches and I think you do well to stay as cheerful as you do. I hope it is all good with your OH's appointment.

Shower next and pop to the shop and then I must open and check medical cabinet No 3 that's arrived.

Morning AnnG and all

It’s going to be a hot one. I slept from about midnight until 3.30 am but have been reading and dozing on and off since then. We have to go into town for OH’s eye appointment at 10 am and to do some other errands but I don’t think I’ll be doing much else today.

Funny how we all have different tastes. I’ve watched all 6 episodes of Death Valley on iPlayer and enjoyed it.

AnninGlos Report 21 Jun 2025 06:57

Good morning all 20 degrees at the moment and sunny but not yet 7am. I woke around 0530 and it was too hot to try to get back to sleep so I came into my office. Not dressed yet of course. I did sleep from 11 to 0100 and then waking every couple of hours. I don't think any sleep we get when it is so hot is good sleep. So another day with little energy. Good job I have not planned any trips out. Tesco due 4-5pm that is all I have for today.

I recorded that death Valley thats on sunday night with Timothy Spall in it but I didn't like that .
We sat out this evening until about nine then it turned quite chilly again

Its been so hot today I hav'nt done anything much just fed the chcikens and fish and went round to Stu's for something he had got for me. I can't find the beef dripping chips he uses so he got me some.

Vera I hope the head eases off during the day for you and you can manage abit more sleep tonight.

The heat saps your energy and makes you feel tired.

Its the longest day tomorrow and then its all down hill after that and I have been enjoying the long days of daylight and when its hot like this I garden in the evening when its cooler. We did have a good breeze today but still very hot and even now its 22 degrees.

Builder has finished :-D. I offered him a sandwich when we had one but he wouldn’t stop to eat anything. He has left us a very reasonable bill and asked if he can come and see how it turned out when the walls are painted as he’d not done a job quite like this before. Next thing is to tell the painter we are ready at last and see when he will be able to fit us in.

Yes, AnnG, the pain is associated with my migraine. It has always been centred above one eye but can spread all round my head. I wake up nearly every morning with pain round my eye and over my head but it will usually ease after I have been up a while. In the past I have wondered about the pillows on the bed and have tried every variation of flat ones, fluffy ones in ones and twos and a very expensive, special Tempur pillow that was so heavy I could barely lift it to put a pillowcase on. I think I moan about it so much out of frustration that it stops me doing a lot of things but it is what it is. You all have your pains too and don’t complain half as much as me.

I can’t remember our koi ever producing eggs. We certainly never saw baby fish. Perhaps we didn’t give them the right conditions for breeding.

I took some salmon from the freezer this morning so I had better go and sort some vegetables to go with it and see if I can produce something light but filling.

Annx

Annx Report 20 Jun 2025 16:04

I expect a lot of the eggs do get eaten without tons of weed to hide in Mel. It's nice if a few survive each year though and interesting to see what colours they eventually become. I used to breed some tropical fish and eggs and baby fish would disappear unless they were in a seperate fishtank.

Vera those head pains sound horrid and you lost a lot of sleep last night. I think it was a good decision not to go into town having had a bad head, especially with the heat today and also saving you an extra trip. I hope your OH's post op check and eyetest are early tomorrow so you won't be out in the worst heat as I think tomorrow will be a bit hotter still. It's good the builder turned up and is making progress fuelled by strong tea! :-) I am the same with the tv and don't like exploring it much although I have had to go into the settings in Sky before now to follow their instructions. OH is the same with his car. He changed something a while ago and ended up with the screen that tells him which road he is on instead of the usual one. When the car came back from being serviced the garage had changed it back again, but he hadn't asked them to, but he was glad. He's lost the beeps that warn him about speed cameras now. No-one tells you it is free for three years and then you have to pay when you buy the car. He's happy without it though as the beeps could be annoying.

It is 26 here and overcast with occasional sun and a coolish breeze. I sat out for a while with my coffee then swapped a couple of pots around, changed a couple of cushion covers in the conservatory and binned one cushion that had disintigrated. Well I think that one came from my Mum's so must have beenover 20 years in the heat and sun of the conservatory. Strange that I have cushions on lounge chairs and the settee, being not very tall I need a cushion behind me for my back but I have noticed daughter and SiL and people who come for the monthly meeting always push the cusions off.

Vera that pain sounds nasty, is it connected to your migraines, it sounds more like sinus or tooth pain. Hope it soon eases for you.
Good idea to leave everything in town until tomorrow, get it all done at once but if it is still hot don't go rushing and overdo it.

The blackbirds obviously like it not so sunny hot as there is one here singing away.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 20 Jun 2025 12:44

Thats nice you have started going out with friends for lunch now Gwyn and a little walk each day will be good for you too.

Annx you asked about the fish. The kio do ay eggs but they are soon eaten up by the others as there is nothing in the kio pond for them to stick on. Not a scrape of weed. The goldfish and shubbies in my pond have been laying eggs but there are so many of them in there I think they eat most of the eggs too. I did see two of three little black ones last year that must have been last years brood that got away. I have taken a lot of weed out this year but theres still a corner that baby fish could hide in if I am lucky enough to get any this year. I had to release a fish stuck in the weed where they like to lay their eggs and had a devil of a job to get it out but did in the end.

Its 26 here but we have a lovely strongish breeze today.

My hand is itching like crazey this morning.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 20 Jun 2025 12:23

Good morning

It’s good to hear that you are managing to do a little more each day Gwyn, and it’s sensible to walk early before it gets too hot.

It was a bit cooler here last night. I did keep the fan going and the temperature was bearable but the pain going up one side of my face, round my eye and down the back of my head kept me awake. I got up at 1 am and wandered around the house, went back to bed, got up at 3 and made a cup of tea, went back to bed at 4 and eventually fell asleep till 7.30. The pain is much easier this morning though it’s still there in the background.

At the moment it’s 25 degrees but it’s cloudy and there’s a breeze so it doesn’t feel too bad. I was going into town while it feels a bit cooler but then remembered that we have to go tomorrow for OH’s final post op check and eye test. There’s not much point negotiating the road works and traffic lights and paying for parking 2 days running so while OH is in the opticians I’ll trudge round town in the heat.

You ladies are putting me to shame with clearing your wardrobes. I know I need to do mine but can’t seem to motivate myself to get started.

I can’t advise anyone about TV set up as since daughter gave us hers in February and she and granddaughter set it all up I haven’t really got to grips with it. I mostly just watch BBC News on it and OH watches films that are on the Freeserve networks anyway so we haven’t bothered much. Granddaughter bought a Firestick so that’s plugged into the TV and there is so much downloaded that we are never likely to use. I have promised myself that when I have time and OH is doing something else I’ll sit down and have a play with it but I haven’t got around to it yet.

I forgot to say that our builder/handyman turned up at 8.30 am and has been working since, fuelled by a regular supply of strong tea. I’m not at all sure how long the job will take but hope he can finish it before too long. We have a couple of other jobs lined up for him but we’ll get the outside painted first and give him time to get over all his problems.

I started this quite a while ago and then got distracted so it should now start Good Afternoon and not Good Morning. I’d better get on with one or two jobs. Keep out of the heat and enjoy the afternoon ladies.

Well I missed Mandy as well. We have the sun on the back for most of the day where the lounge and kitchen are. It moves from the front in the morning and down the side next and where I am in the study so is hot for me now. I remembered and got my little 6 inch cube fan out that you put two little bottles of cold water in (or you can freeze them) and it is blowing on me with my strappy top on cooling me nicely. I need to do the chicken stirfry next and add some mushrooms. That won't be cool but is fairly quick to do. I heard the Blackbird again this morning and still couldn't see him!

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 20 Jun 2025 10:48

Well done on the short walk Gwyn, good to get it done while it was still cool. It is 25 degrees here now and starting to feel sticky again so, after watering both lots of pots and baskets and about 20 minutes in the garden tying back a rampant perennial sweet pea I am inside for the day

My Wifi is separate from the TV. Although it is asmart TV (an old one now) I have no idea if T ever put anything onto it and I am pretty sure it is not connected to the Wfi. HDM2 is what the TV is on. I am pretty sure that once in error I pressed on the in Demand button and it wanted a code/registration but as I had done it by mistake I didn't follow that through. I think I was loking for something for SiL when they were here and didn't want to be searching with him breathing down my neck trying to be helpful.

Mandy I still have a couple of unsorted wardrobes and they are both coats and jackets.

Annx Report 20 Jun 2025 09:31

Morning All,

I hope your builder manages to come today Vera but the poor man is trying to do so much with having so many things to do and sort out. Hopefully your head is much better now too.

That makes more sense that you didn't mean the iplayer Mel. I have never watched Outrageous but might see if I like it now. Trying the other HDMI inputs won't mess anything up as you can just swap back to HDMI1 if they don't work. My Wifit works on a different HDMI input to the telly and I just change it when I use Wifit and change it back afterwards. I just think of the HDMI inputs as different plugs you use for different things like the dvd player or Wifit.

It's reached 22 degrees here now so getting warmer, but I opened everywhere up and it's cooler inside now. Last night I slept well, woke at around 6.00am but went back to sleep and got up at 7.45am. I had a thin sheet over me with the very cold water bottle next to me and that seemed to cool the air in the sheet 'tent' over me. I must remember to put it back in the fridge for tonight. I seem to have a pain in my side this morning, probably from reaching to cut the Acer growth yesterday so haven't done anything outside today.

I plan to start emptying the ensuite wall cupboard after we've popped out but it may be later when the sun's moved round. I have no idea what to do for lunch! I don't fancy more salad just yet.

Edit: Missed you there Gwyn and I'm glad you managed a nice little walk. It lifts the spirits when you feel you are steadily getting better. I do envy you your nice freshly caught fish and chips meal and it's good you were able to order children's portions. Adult portions can be 'Desperate Dan' sized meals can't they.

Gwyn in Kent Report 20 Jun 2025 09:08

Well done for being so neighbourly and reporting that tree, Mel.

Just back from a gentle walk round the block, after going to the post box.
It was quite pleasant on the first part, just warm with a light breeze blowing, but when I turned direction and the road is narrower, I couldn't feel any breeze and the sun was on my back.
Having started to get mobile again, I wanted to get a short walk done before the full heat of the day. I'll probably be indoors for the rest of the day now. 22 degrees here now.

Yesterday was another 'first' and I went out for lunch with friends at a cafe right on the beach. They specialise in fish in it's many forms, although other choices are available. We like the fact that we are able to order from the children's menu and their child's fish and chips is more than ample for lunch. It is all freshly cooked and only yards from the fishing boats, which probably caught the catch.

Take care in this heat everyone.

Morning all,

Had a good night it was quite cool late evening and that cooled the bedrooms down ,I always keep the bedroom curtains closed at the back as we get sun there all day .
Should be another hot one and we're off in a while to do our shopping .

So your clear out in the wardrobe was good then Anng I still need to do some wardrobes here especially the wardrobe with coats and jackets .

Right better drink my cuppa and get ready to go .
