Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 Dec 2020 16:22

We had no damage from the storm last night but Em has just emailed me to ask if a compost bin that blew into hers last night was mine. She sent me a picture fo it! We had hailstones this morning and then the suns came out again but now it has disappeared and its getting dark and raining.

Our turkey is still in the fridge and there's still half of it untouched. I must admit it was better cold.

Afternoon All,

Boy wasn't it windy and rainy last night! Dry now though and still a little sun.I managed to sleep really well though

I wonder what has happened to your arm Mel? Maybe you twisted it somehow lifting pans the last few days. I hope it soon settles down. It might be worth trying a book under the back of the keyboard to create a slope and see if that helps.

It sounds like you enjoyed your Christmas outing Frank.

I wonder when your OH will be back at Stroud AnnG and when they will let your daughter know. I bet she had a bit of a panic the hospital waking her at that time! I hope the rain that came in the conservatory has all drained now. It happens with a friend's conservatory when the wind is in the right direction.

We had a strange combination for lunch today but it was what we fancied..........poached eggs on toast followed by Christmas pud for OH and sticky toffee pud for me! :-)

I see your Turkey remains have bit the dust now Mandy! I used to slice some and freeze it when it was cooked to have on sandwiches despite OH protesting. His eyes are bigger than his tum when it comes to food and there would still be some left to throw away.

There is no sign of my next Asda order yet so I hope it will go up in the next few days or I shall be scrambling for a slot.

Not sure whether to paint or start beading now? The jigsaw hasn't been started yet either and OH has just suggested our Christmas Scrabble match later.

I have somehow wqrenched my left arm and I* can't lift it up without it hurting. It dos'nt help with this new keyboard as its has a big bit at the bottom and my left hand dos'nt reach the keys properly.

Morning all,

Well it was quite a blowy old night but the wind has dropped now and we have lovely blue sky and sun .

I hope T is comfortable and that's good you had a good night's sleep AnnG, hope you can drain the water from the blind .

Frank nice to see you sounds as if you enjoyed your Christmas .

What have you done to your arm Mel ,hope it eases as the day goes on .

We have tidyed round put the spare chairs back down in the shed ,I have put some mince pies in the freezer as we'll never eat them all and I've sliced the panatoni and put that in the freezer too it will be handy to get out to make a couple of bread and butter puddings .

The rest of the turkey will go in the bin ,we're not keen on turkey pie or turkey curry and there's only a little left of it so not wasting to much .

Gammon tonight with chips and pickles so again nice and easy .

Sometimes I wonder at the thought processes of some people. OK we need to know where OH is when they keep shifting him around but last night at 12.30 (bearing in mind it was 6pm we were told he was moved to Gloucester), My daughter was woken up to be told he had been admitted to Gloucester AMU (acute medical unit). They couldn't even tell her which ward, just the unit. That really could have waited until morning. I suppose I should be thankful they actually read the note that Stroud put on his records that said to phone L.

Well the fencing is fine but the conservatory had a couple of leaks, not too serious it is a bit like a sieve when the wind is blowing the rain inwards. We have individual blinds over each pane of glass in the roof and one was sagging so I knew it had water in it, Just draining it through a hole I punched in it. Luckily I have watched T do it on other blinds.

Good morning to you all, I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas.

I don't know where the time went. Christmas day we went to Kerry and Mark's at Weldon, Corby. Conrad and Jan, Jo and Ella were there also. They stayed in a local hotel. They drove back to Devon, Boxing day.

We had John and Carolyn round for dinner yesterday. A lot of preparation, but enjoyed by all. They went home around 6.30 pm. Leaving Ros and I a nice evening alone.

Nothing planned for today. We will have the remains of the Rib of Beef for dinner later today.

I hope you are all keeping well, and well way from this COVID. Will try to get back later. If not it will be tomorrow. xxxx

Good morning AnnG and all

Much the same weather here. Really dark and gloomy. All I have planned for today is sorting out a Sainsbury order which is due to be delivered on Tuesday and answering a few Christmas emails from friends and rellies .

I am glad you got some sleep AnnG. It must be so confusing for T constantly being moved but I am sure the hospitals will keep him comfortable and not let him be in pain. It’s so hard on you not being able to spend time with him. Look after yourself and stay strong. Thinking of you <3

AnninGlos Report 27 Dec 2020 07:33

Good morning all 5 degrees here but still very dark so can't see what the weather is doing. Hoping all the fencing is still standing as it was blowing a gale last night when I went to bed. I didn't expect to sleep but I did sleep very well, woke at 6am. Just hoping my poor OH is comfortable wherever he is.

AnninGlos Report 26 Dec 2020 19:36

It may be that it was evening on Boxing Day and a skeleton staff.,it is particularly hard as he was anxious when he got to Stroud and moving in the evening is disorientating fir them. So he will be anxious again as he us apparently confused. As with care homes the rules are pretty tight on no visiting. Goodness knows where he will end up that is the trouble these days the two hospitals specialise but all emergency ambulances have to go to .gloucester.

Annx

Annx Report 26 Dec 2020 19:17

Oh the poor chap being taken to and fro from one hospital to another AnnG. Still at least his x-ray will be done while he is there. but he must be really fed up by now. You'd think the community hospital would have been able to do it as a lot of their elderly patients in the same situation would need a catheter at some point. Let's hope it will be a quick round trip. I too was wondering if you will be able to see him at some point

Some dogs do love things to chew don't they Mandy and at least he leaves things he shouldn't touch alone which is good. The flashing ball sounds good. My friend with the cats bought one of those fish that flip for them and she got a little train that has a flashing light and circular plastic rail to run round for them. She got it from Poundstretcher!

MillymollyAmanda Report 26 Dec 2020 18:41

Oh no AnnG poor T was the cathiter taken out to stop infection I wonder .
Would they let you in to see him if you had a covid test ?
If he's poorly surely they would allow it ,oh I do feel for you its an awful situation to be in .

Vera Olive sounds as she's getting there with her training ,have you any more photo's of her .

Ann that was a nice sum off the jacket good job you waited .
Colin said he would get me a new phone but we decided to wait until after Christmas and see what's about in the sales ,son will pick one as he always sets things up for us but now we're in tier 4 it will now be a while before we can meet again .
Yes Max had one of those squeaky balls that flash and I bought one of those balls on a rope with the suction cup that should stick to the tiled floor but he's started to chew the cup bit so there's no chance of any suction now :-D
I might get Colin to cut the cup bit off so he just has the ball on the rope but that won't last long I know .
He just chews any toys that are soft ,he has no cuddly toys like our other dogs I've tried but he just rips them up .
He's good in the house he doesn't touch the furniture or mats ,rugs carpet but if he can run off with Colin slippers he will ,he doesn't touch mine ,I wonder why :-D
And of course he still goes for the loo roll :-D

AnninGlos Report 26 Dec 2020 18:09

How much more can the poor man take? Nurse just called daughter, OH had a blood test which is indicating kidney problems apparently before leaving Gloucester they removed his catheter, now it needs to be inserted again and Stroud can’t do it. So he is being taken immediately back to Gloucester.bstroud will keep his bed open a couple of didn’t say how long he will also get his chest X-ray while there.

Evening All,

Quite sunny today but didn't make me want to go outside.

I'm so sorry to hear your news AnnG, and that your instincts about T seem to be right after all. All I can add is that five years ago when MIL had cancer and had palliative care in a community hospital, they looked after her very well and kept her free from pain. It is such a shame after he managed to recover from Covid. We are all here to help in any way we can and just listen.

It sounds like you had a nice time Vera and it's good that Olive is coming along nicely and learning her manners!

Mel I threw our Turkey away today which is most unlike me to waste something like that. We just didn't fancy it! I hope the other, different one in the freezer will be better or it will follow suit! A chef on tv recently said that as long as a frozen Turkey was good quality when frozen it should be fine. Maybe ours weren't, but like you, in future we will buy fresh like we have in the past.

It sounds like we had some nice presents we like. I had 3 books, including 'The Official History of Britain' which is a story in numbers as told by the Office for National Statistics. I had some lighter reading too. I had some of my favourite perfume, some 'art' stuff for my classes, the wildlife camera and a black jacket. I waited till today to see if the jacket was in the sale and it was and £21 less so I have ordered it!

I bet it was nice to see the family Mandy and Max sounds like he gave them a good welcome! lol. Did Max have a pressie from Santa?

Sandra will have to make sure her camera is charged ready for 'snow' pictures Gill. I shall be out with my camera too if it snows here. lol.

I think the wine OH has had today has made him sleepy. He's been dozing while watching footie! I do wish our big TV was working as neither of us are very comfy watching either of the bedroom ones together. We are watching The Repair Shop tonight and watched 'Call the Midwife' this morning. I recorded the Tiger programme Mel and thought it looked good.

Yes, where is Frank? I hope he and Ros are ok.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 26 Dec 2020 17:10

Sounds like you had a great day Mandy, did they like the gingerbread house? I assume it is on display.

Vera good job Granddaughter is doing a good job with training. Can’t afford to have a big dog not trained.

I am very much up and down at the moment I had a feeling that all was not well with OH and it was hard to have it confirmed but at least we know what to expect now.

You are right Covid makes a bad situation worse and may, of course, have contributed to his rapid deterioration, but Inthink things may well have been the same without Covid, obviously the cancer may have been lurking for a while. He is, of course, an ex smoker.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 26 Dec 2020 16:56

I am sorry that this time of year holds so many sad memories for you AnnG. That and this b....y Covid must be making it doubly hard for you, but you know we are all here for you so rant, rave or cry as much as you like on here. <3

I hope Frank is OK.

I forgot to mention earlier that I finally got to meet daughter’s puppy Olive. What a heart stealer she is :-). My granddaughter is doing a superb job with the training and socialising and Olive is a friendly, happy dog who rarely barks, mostly obeys the basic commands and is learning things like fetch and drop, though so far she thinks that only applies to tennis balls. As she is a big dog it’s very easy to forget that she’s not yet 5 months old.
