Lucky you Frank
I'd give anything to peer through that 'silly thing'!
My cataract was caused by surgery in 2018 and has badly affected my every day life.
It seems admin dump patients notes but I have now got an appointment via speccie's - in June! Barstewards had better not postpone it - I don't think the realise how miserable cataracts can make people.

Thanks for your comments, yes I feel like a different person being able to see so clearly now.

I have just bought the last of the four Half Sovereigns that were damaged in the Paper Shreader. Thank goodness the insurance covered the cost. All thats left now is for the jewellers to ope. so they can be put in the mounts and attached to the bracelet.

Have just finished my book. I am about to start a new one now. I hope it's as good as the last one.

I don't think I have seen a SNIPE either Mel, I hope the photo comes out nice.

I am so pleased your eye is better Frank. Perhaps I need my left eye done too. I have had a misty eye in the left one about the same time as you did and it annoys me when doing my crafts as I can't seem to focus properly.

Looking out of the kitchen window this morning I thought I saw a female pheasent slowly walking along the top wall. Got my camera out and managed to take two pics but one is not too clear. downloaded them and its a SNIPE. Thought the face looked funny and you can hardly see the long beak but its there against a branch of the figs tree. I'll send the pics later. We have never had a snipe in the garden before so another bird to add to the list. It must have been blown off course as they are a wetland bird but then again there is the lake down from us at the big house.

I have one like that with the duster Vera! He thinks anything with a cloth in his hand means rubbing it in, without refolding the cloth and using a scooping action, and he never reaches any corners! If he wipes anything off cupboards because he doesn't use the handles, or off the floor he just spreads it with the cloth. When I point out that greasy marks are still there he protests that he did clean it and it must have happened since! :-S He does a good job of any washing up and wipes the sink and draining board down, but it never occurs to him to wipe the tiled windowsill behind the sink! Like you say though, we have to let some things pass and be thankful for what does get done in case they lose the will to do it. :-0

That's an excellent result then Frank with your eye! No wonder you are pleased at seeing so much better. Does the other eye need doing too? You read quite a variety of books and murder mysteries are right up my street and now you can enjoy reading even more. :-)

I used to love the weekends and finishing on Friday when I worked too. Before flexitime came in for us in the 70s, we would finish half an hour earlier on Fridays which was good as we missed the traffic peak hour going home! After tea on Sundays thoughts would turn to work though and what I had booked the next week.

Good morning to you all.

Oh what a difference in the sight of my left eye. Having that laser treatment has enabled me to have clear vision without my glass's. I was called in by a nurse who put drops in my left eye, then I had to read the letters through that silly thing you hold up to your eye. I was sent back to the waiting area, and was called by a Doctor. He explained what he was going to do, and said it would only take a few minutes, and there would be NO PAIN. No sooner said than done.My vision was changed immediately. Ros thought I would need a covering over my eye, but I didn't, and could see better than I had for years.

AnnG, will be thinking of you today. At least it's a pleasant morning, I do hope everything goes to plan.

Yea Mel., another working week over for the majority of people. I must admit, I do miss meeting all the people, and selling the cars, but retirement is very nice as well.

Bright SUNNY MORNING here, I haven't been ut yet, so can't say if it's cold or not.

The Roast Chicken was lovely last night, It seems a long time since we had one. Ros has stripped the CARCUS this morning, and will make a curry for tonight, again something we haven't had for a long time.

What are you all upto today,?? I will no doubt sit in the conservatory and finish the book I am reading. Linda Le Plant "GOOOD FRIDAY" A great story about DC Jane Tennyson. Well worth a read if you like a detective story. Ros buys me books from Tesco 2 for £8.00. Very good value and excellent stories. I have 6 or 8 in stock, so plenty to go at.

I really can't get over how GREAT my eyesight is, in my left eye. See you all later. xxxx

It’s snowing again at the moment but just flurries so far. I hope the weather is kind to AnnG today. Even if she can’t hug she’ll want to stand at a distance and have a few words with those she hasn't seen for a while so I hope it at least stays dry for her.

I’ve done all sorts of odd jobs this morning, cleaned sinks and mirrors and watered indoor plants and OH has dusted and vacuumed through. To give him his due he does a good job with the hoover but his dusting is not up to my standard. He wafts the duster around as though it’s going to clean by magic. I don’t say anything or he might stop offering to help.

I’m not sure what I am going to do this afternoon. I’ve taken some smoked haddock from the freezer for tonight so I only need to decide what to put with it.

Morning all,

Dry and very windy again here and we had a few flakes of snow last night before I went to bed but with the wind blowing a hooley it did'nt get a chance to settle before being whisked away on the wind.

Strange you should mention the homeless Anng as they have been in my mind during this very cold spell. They will certainly be grateful for T's lovely warm things.
My thoughts are with you today and the family so sending you a gentle ((hug)) and hope all goes well. Also sending all my love. <3

End of the week again, well the working week anyway. Friday has always seemed like the end of the week to me looking forward to the weekend but every day is the same now.

Morning All,

Another good sleep and no frost this morning. OH is on his way to the hospital. I'll get some bacon ready for a bacon Buttie when he gets back........he'll like that!

Quite right AnnG. OH has 50 odd shirts and I wouldn't want to keep all those! The gloves, scarves etc will be much appreciated just now. We have contact details and people interested in OH's footie programmes now so hopefully those will be greatly reduced this summer.

Ouch, I'd forgotten he'd done that Mel!

Better shower next and I must get on with painting today! My friend has been doing a zoom course on embroidery. She sent a pic yesterday of a little hedgerow scene embroidered on layers of thin scrap bits of fabrics to make a background.

Shower next ...........hope everyone slept well and is ok.

Hope all goes as well as it can today AnnG. Not an easy day for you all.

Good morning all, dry, no frost but -1 degree at the moment. Up early to shower and clear the bathroom for the others. I have to say I am not looking forward to today at all, it seems more final than final. It is going to be hard not to be able to chat to the grandchildren as well, so long since I have seen one of them, the others not so bad as I saw them more recently (still a while ago though. Not sure how Inara will react but they had no-one to leave her with so have to bring her. She does understand about keeping a distance though.

Good morning everyone

It was a very cold night last night again and it’s -2 at the moment. No more sign of snow thank goodness

AnnG, I’ll be keeping you in my thoughts today <3 <3

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 11 Feb 2021 22:27

There is still plenty here to keep. I don’t feel the need to keep all his clothes to remember him, just a few sweaters, and some light jackets and Gillette’s. Most of the stuff today, warm sweaters, hats, gloves, socks will be distributed to the homeless, much better than leaving them in drawers and cupboards. T doesn’ need them any more sadly.

Ann i think he bought them when he cut the top of his finger off.

Annx

Annx Report 11 Feb 2021 20:16

Yes I can imagine it would be hard to watch the car go AnnG. It's all a big adjustment isn't it. I think I would want to keep the odd thing, but you can't keep everything anyway. It's good you are finding good homes for things as I expect T would like that and that they will be put to good use by others. It will be nice to wear some of his jumpers you can still use as well. It sounds like most things are in hand now, so that's good. Once the funeral is over your mind will be freer too and there will be less left to be done. I think they made a change with ISAs some time ago and allow them to be transferred without losing the tax free status now which is good.

Fancy you remembering the blue bauble Mel! I must admit I have wondered who has it now! My word, you were wrapped up well against the cold so it must be bitter where you are. Your poor thumb, but I did smile at your OH's Gnome condoms! It's chilly here and we had the heating on more today but we haven't been outside. There's no breeze here and it has been quite sunny. I never did any of the painting I intended to do and have messed about on the computer too. OH has said he will go for his scan on his own tomorrow as he doesn't want me getting cold sitting in the car waiting for him. He knows where to go and there are 6 carparks and the one he needs is out of the way, This is good as they are vaccinating there as well so they will use the bigger carparks I expect.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 11 Feb 2021 18:40

Is it really two years since your sister died Ann? I can't believe it it only seems like yesterday you were telling us. You are bound to miss her even if you were'nt that close she was still family and I remember you telling us about the beaded bauble you made for her.

The wind has been that cold here today I have had a scarf under a fleece hat and gloves on and a coat with a fleece sleeveless a thick cardi, polo necked cotton long sleeve and a round neck long sleeve on today. The old wind is sooooooo very bitter. Still done all the outside feeding and shutting away so now its time to do dinner which is lamb chops and veg so not too taxing.

My thumb split open down the side as it nearlly always does in cold weather and its been a real pain today so I have been putting vasaline on it all day and one of oh rubber finger stall things which has seemed to help. He calls them his gnomes condoms!!!!

As to housework I hav'nt done any today. Just could'nt get into anything so have sat at the pc nearly all day.

Hope Frank got on ok with his laser treatment.

AnninGlos Report 11 Feb 2021 16:24

I didn't/couldn't watch him drive it away but it is a relief that it has gone, the same with the clothes. I can't stop feeling guilty that I am here getting rid of his clothes doing his gardening etc and he is not here. But I know that is a noemal progression of grief and I will come through it. I will be pleased when the funeral is over and I can get closure on all the things (official things) that need changing. The bank is progressing well and they didn't need probate. We have the ISAs to do that will probably need probate but we haven't found out yet. We are halfway there with his company pension, except we have told them but they have not come back with what proof they need. So much of everything is done on line these days, even the bank.

Annx

Annx Report 11 Feb 2021 15:47

I hope the lasering works well Frank and that you don't have to wait long. I think they will probably put a cloth pad over your eye afterwards. I can't remember if OH had one when he had lasering done.

Well lunch was disastrous today! I couldn't find the tube of tomato paste so added a squirt from a tube of pepper puree that I thought was like salad peppers. When I tested the gravy in the chicken stew it seemed a bit warm so I realised it was chilli peppers, so I added more water and gravy stock. After 10 minutes of tucking in I had beads of sweat on my brow and my lips felt big like I imagine botox would make them. OH managed to eat his, but the 2nd portions for freezing have been chucked away!. I've chucked it out now so I can't mistake it again! On the back it said they were Scotch Bonnet peppers which are pretty hot ones I think!

I've managed to dust the lounge and dining area but that's it HW wise today.

OH had a call from the hospital to go for a DEXA scan tomorrow morning to check on his osteoporosis. I'd sooner it had been 2 weeks after his vaccination, but at least it is early in the morning.

AnnG it must have been both sad to see it go and a relief to see the Lexus taken away. You are getting more done in the garden than we are! What do you use to cut those thick Buddliea stems with? We bought a small curved saw bladed tool for small branches that works very well on the shrubs.

Thank you Vera, it was today she died, She was only aged 62, had been unwell with a leg infection that was healing and back at home from hospital. She just didn't wake up in the morning, totally unexpected so quite a shock.

Thank you AnnG. We were totally unalike and I didn't see her that often, but we shared an interest in crafts and animals and you have that shared history and memories from childhood. She used to make cards and was very good at drawing. I have kept some of her cards and a pretty eggshell Christmas decoration with metal butterflies stuck to it. We tended to swap things we had made for each other at Christmas.
