Good afternoon ladies
It’s still only 11.30 but I’ve put good afternoon as I keep getting distracted so I suspect it will be afternoon by the time this gets posted. It’s much cooler today and with a pleasant breeze. We’ve got doors and windows open and it’s the first time the house has been cook for several days. (Cook should read cool of course but iPad won’t l et me change it!)
Mandy, those roses are beautiful. I can almost smell the fragrance from here. Our garden is a mess this year so I envy you your lovely roses. 50 years married - that’s an achievement. Are you planning to do anything on the day?
I googled the place you are staying AnnG and it looks lovely. Enjoy your Sunday lunch.
Mel, it’s good you were able to help Em out with the loan of your tractor trailer. That would have made moving everything much easier for them. Are your feet still as swollen now it’s a little bit cooler?
Oh Annx, your poor sides and legs do sound painful. Take it very easy for a few days. I know how frustrating it is when you can see all the things you want to be doing but you will have to close your eyes and ignore them. I hope OH’s windscreen will be fixed this time. The company have messed him around a bit. It’s good that there is a handy pub where OH can wait while it is being fixed.
Organisers of church events are always grateful for volunteers Gwyn so I’m sure they were glad of your help at the concert/lunch. There often used to be lunchtime and evening concerts in a redundant church in the centre of town but then it was closed for a couple of years for renovation and modernisation. It then reopened as an Arts Centre. It sounded great but it has become ultra modern and “woke”. We did go to something one evening and we didn’t even realise it had started till it had been going for about 20 minutes.
I must go and sort out our Sunday dinner so I think I’ll post this bit and come back later to tell you of my day yesterday.

An easy day today. Just sitting at the moment reading and looking out to the lake. We are going for Sunday lunch to the pub five minutes away hoping it is as good as usual. We have black clouds here so looks like we could get rain. We need to take the car even though it is close, it is downhill going so quite a steep walk coming back. Daughter has hip trouble and my leg is not good today.
50 years Mandy are you having a celebration?
That was a help for Em Mel in return for all she does for you.

Morning all,
Nice bright sunny morning here ,there is a little cloud but it still feels quite warm in the sun ,they did say today would be cooler but I didn't think so when I hung the washing out . We're having a lazy day ,I'm doing jacket plates with tuna and salad so that's an easy meal . Son ,dil ,Jake and Lewis popped in last night ,son sorted out the Internet banking as for some reason it wanted me to put in some high numbers and my numbers only go up to nine, anyway he sorted that out and he ordered us a new water filter jug too. I had made them some Malteser ice cream so they took that home. I have a bit of sewing to do ,dil had the hem come undone on a pair of trousers and one of the blankets I made had a seam that needs stitching so I'll get those done today .son can take them on Friday as he's popping in as it will be our wedding anniversary, 50 years :-0
Ann hope your side and back are easing a little ,it can take a few days to get better as any movement seems to set it back .
Anng how nice to see the little bunnies playing ,not so bad if you get the rain overnight ,just don't want it in the day as well, enjoy your day today what ever your doing .
Mel that was nice to help a neighbour out as they do a few odd jobs for you at times ,it must have made it a lot easier for them to get the logs moved .
Gwyn hope the buffet lunch went OK and you managed to enjoy a little of the concert too .

Morning lovely ladies,
16 degrees here so a lot cooler and the sky is a bit grey white and patches of blue.
BIL turned up yesterday he did'nt mow but walked down to me and asked if it would be ok for him to lend Em and Ed the tractor and big trailer as they had had a tree cut down and were trying to stow the logs dragging a big fertilizer sack. I had heard the chain saw going and Em told me they were having a tree down and her dad next door was having two down which they did a couple of weeks ago, £3,000. Of course I said yes. They found it much easier and got in done quite quickly.
Sounds like you had a nice day travelling to the new place with nice stops along the way. Did SIL enjoy his Rugby final?

Good morning all, bright and a bit of sun at the moment but looks like it rained over night. I am sitting looking down on lots of baby rabbits playing.
Yesterday was a lovely sunny day. We stopped in Grasmere for lunch of poached eggs on sourdough. Very busy there as it was a large run of some sort. Hundreds of runners all running together to the start of about 3 different runs. We had a look round then drove to. Hawkeshead another look round then sat in the sun with a drink, I had a shandy as I was thirsty. We then got here just before 3 so so. In law could watch Rugby league final

Evening All,
It's saying 24 degrees here but says it feels like 27 degrees. It's hot anyway. I slept well again, but had a job to get out of bed this morning with my side and back hurting and stopping me in my tracks. OH was good and popped out to get some mixed salad and coleslaw in the village and then cooked some jersey royals in the steamer, with guidance how to test they were cooked, and put some fishcakes in the oven so I didn't have to do anything. After lunch I had several attempts to get up from the settee and ended up leaning right forward to be able to slowly straighten up. I can't see me making an appointment about my results at the docs yet. It is easing a bit now, but I keep standing up to stop it stiffening. OH has had a text to take his car for the windscreen to be done after lunch tomorrow. He's told me not to even try to get in my car to fetch him home and will walk to The Dovecote pub a few minutes away and have a coffee or cold drink while he waits for the car to be done. I hope your back is easing a bit now Mel. My ankles were worse yesterday.
Mandy that is a lovely rose with so many flowers and good that it has perfume as some of the modern varieties don't. We have to wipe down our garden chairs too after they've been in the garage. We have a round glass topped table at the moment that has detached from the base and is very heavy, so we want to get a smaller oblong one, that is lighter to carry and easier to store at some point.
AnnG I hope it's staying rainfree for you at the moment. As you say though, there are plenty of places to visit as well.
Gwyn I keep forgetting to ask if you had any of the Swans nesting this year? It's nice to see the young ones hatch and grow. It's good you still have water where you are and helping serve the buffet lunch while listening to the concert in a church sounds like a nice cool place to be today.
I hope your visit to see the paramedic today was useful Vera. I hope your back has settled again too and that you didn't do too much yesterday. I have a lot of plants to put in and it is frustrating being all behind as you say. ( had a chuckle at what I wrote there!) :-D

Afternoon all
Phew another hot one ,this morning we put our garden table together so we're gradually getting there ,the chairs need a wipe over where they have been stored in the garden box ,they are a bit cob Webby. We were expecting our garden benches to arrive yesterday but no sign ,I rang them this morning and they keep saying they are out for delivery and now it will be Monday :-(
Just picked some roses before we get any rain to spoil them ,I never dead head this one as it would be a never ending job there are hundreds of flowers and buds ,I have sent a photo but it doesn't really do it justice, the rose is taller than me so I have a job to reach the top flowers ,I usually pick the flowers that hang at the bottom .

Still warm in the south east corner. The high pressure is still lingering here, but at the moment it is 20 degrees, so quite comfortable.
A shame about the wet forecast AnnG, but at least you have company and in a beautiful and interesting area. I hope you enjoy your stay. I remember that we were in that area in 2022, when the hottest ever in UK temperatures were recorded. We didn't do as much walking, as we might have done, because of the heat, but the gentle cruise on a boat on Lake Windermere on the very hottest day was a welcome relief and also gave my daughter a chance to view the scenery, rather than be our driver.
Later today, I am going to be out of the sun, when I help out with a cold buffet lunch at the church in town, where there is a lunchtime concert. At least we still have water in our area, unlike some parts of Kent. :-0

A belated good evening to you all
I don’t think it’s been quite as hot as the last few days but still heavy and sticky. It’s still 20 degrees here. I just want some rain now to relieve it.
It sounds as though it’s a lot cooler where you are AnnG. The apartment you are going to sounds very nice. I’ll have to google it. Have a lovely time while you are there.
Sorry your painting didn’t go quite as you wanted Mel. Your raven sounds a bit of a nuisance. I don’t think I could cope with a large bird like that knocking at my door. I can imagine the mess it makes. I get fed up with the mess on our paving but that’s pigeons. And why do they have to poo in the bird bath?
I hope the pains in your sides and knee are easing now Annx. What a faff with OH’s windscreen repair. I hadn’t realised that heat could crack a windscreen. Neither the surgery nor my hairdresser send text reminders of appointments but the hospital does and our dentist always phones the day before. EDIT I have just seen your latest post when you say the pains are not clearing very quickly. I’m sorry to hear that and hope a night’s rest will make a difference.
I’ve been chasing my tail all day again because I was late up. I had a really restless night, just dozing till around 5 am when I went into a dead sleep and didn’t wake till nearly 9, which is very late for me. I’ve managed to get quite a lot of garden jobs done, potting up cuttings, tidying up a few pots and troughs and spraying all the hostas with my garlic spray. There aren’t too many slugs around at the moment but they will come out as soon as it rains. I’ve also got the last of my daffodil and tulip bulbs put away for the summer. These are the ones that fill my pots in the spring but I have to lift them so I can use the pots for summer plants. They increase year on year and I’ve now got so many bulbs that I think I’ll have to give some away in the autumn. I’ve also done a lot of those silly little jobs that we all put off because they’re not urgent. Dinner tonight was a lemon and garlic chicken traybake. It took a little while to prepare but it was very tasty and the chicken, which I thought might be a bit dry, was lovely and moist.
Tomorrow I must be up a bit earlier as I want to shower and wash my hair before going to the surgery to see the paramedic about my feet. I’m hoping it won’t be too hot as I have to go to the main surgery in the practice. They only have a tiny car park and you can seldom get in there so I usually park at the car park in town and walk to the surgery. I try when I can to do most of my jobs in town in one visit but this week I’ve had to go in 3 times for different appointments. Our parking isn’t expensive as such but it adds up if you have to go in several times in a week. Tomorrow is also market day so it will be busy. In the afternoon I have a Tesco delivery.
I think all the bending over pots and compost bags etc has set my back off again. I know I should stop at the first twinge but there seems to be so much to do that if I keep stopping we’ll get to winter before the garden is ready for summer so I’ve plodded on but I have just had to take a painkiller. I am sitting hunched over the computer which isn’t helping so I am going to close it down, do my back exercises, have a wash and go to bed with a couple of pillows to support me and my book to read.

I think it's me getting muddled AnnG. I thought Sawrey knott was the name of the place! I remember you staying before and seeing the beautiful views on photos you took. I've just googled and hadn't realised what a lovely house it is with the Tower and a great place to have lived with extensive grounds too. I'm feeling 'wish I was there' feelings now!
Mel it was you who vanished today! We are still 21 degrees here but that's cooler than last night at this time. It's a shame when things you make don't quite turn out, but I think you always learn from them anyway. My back and knee aren't improving as quickly as I would like, but I hope to go and get the geraniums I saw the other day in the morning if any are left. I've hardly done anything again today, but am off to bed now.

I thought I had said where we are staying. It is an apartment in a very large house (hotel size)called Sawrey Knott There is a bit on line about it. It goes way back to the 19th century when it was a hotel then a large private house. I did once check it out on the censuses. Daughter and her late husband bought a two bed apartment in the house, first they let it out and the. When he became I’ll they lived there and he died there Christmas 2014. There apartment was downstairs but she sold it in 2015 as it was not a good place to live on her own. The apartment we are in is directly above what was hers. We have stayed there twice before. T and I stayed I’m the downstairs one several times.
If you google it we are in the tower.

It was nice to have a coffee and see the harbour AnnG even if the trip was importantly to fill up with fuel. It's cooler at 21 degrees here now and I have swapped to a T shirt from a strappy top. Packing layers was best wasn't it as you say. I hope it's a pleasant trip to your destination and is it a lodge you will be staying in?

It was just a short trip to Maryport first for a coffee and then for a quick drive round the harbour and an even quicker walk as it is very grey and the wind has a bite to it. But it was good to get the sea air anyway the. It was petrol for our journey tomorrow in case it is dearer further south.. I am half packed just tops and trousers to put in, good job I brought layers with me as today I have a camisole a tee shirt and a cotton sweater on.

Morning All,
Slept well with my cold bottle and after a paracetamol and it's cooler, only 19 degrees this morning. I've pain in both my sides now as well as my left knee, but it should ease a bit later with short pottering around and sitting.
OH has certainly been messed about with getting his windscreen fixed by Autoglass. Wednesday when he rang they said Friday and would let him know what time later in the day but didn't. He rang again Thursday, but their Derby branch picked up his call so knew nothing, but sent an email to their people here. OH then got a call from the people here to say they could do it for him yesterday afternoon instead of today. Then he got a txt to say the windscreen hadn't arrived and booked him in for this morning. Now he's had a txt to say the technician is off sick and have re-booked him in for Sunday!! In a way I'm glad as I'm more likely to be able to get in my car by then to give him a lift home. I don't know if I said before, but as the screen was fine and it happened while it was on the drive, OH was told it would be the heat we've had here that would have caused it to crack.
Mel, fingers crossed, our Magpie hasn't been in the conservatory since and now there's no food for him in there I hope he's given up! Your Raven sounds a real pain. I wonder if propping a mirror near or against the door might put him off? Have a look on Temu for bird scarers as there are things for a few pounds that might be worth trying.
I hope you have a nice time with your trip to Maryport and then on to where you are staying today AnnG.
Vera you do well to get so much done! Quite a little group of you for the birthday do to have a nice chat with yesterday. It sounds like you are still having trouble finding out about your OH's appointment and what department you need to go to. I hope you get the letter in time. Our post seems to be weekly now. Sorry you missed your physio appointment, but at least you have another now. Our surgery sends several txt reminders usually as does my hairdresser. It used to annoy me but, even with a diary now I sometimes miss things. I may be wrong, but suffering the same with swollen ankles I have read somewhere that massage can reduce the fluid buildup so maybe that's the reason?

Morning Anng and all,
Enjoy your trip to Mary Port.
Its a grey morning here and it is 15 degrees. Pc says 4 rainy days starting Monday but when I got up and went to the bathroom it was raining. By the time I got out here and made my coffee it had stopped but it was'nt enough to wet the ground though it sounded heavy.
The blimmin Raven is banging on the patio doors again and you should see the mess he makes out there. He started perching on the bottom back bar of the wooden seat out there and so I put things against it and now he perches on the top back and messes all over the seat. The decking out there is spattered with its poo.

Good morning all it is sunny here again but looks like a strong wind. It is more often than not windy here as it is close to the sea in Solway Firth. I think we are just having a short drive to Mary Port this morning as we will then be packing. I think it is just about an hour to Sawrey, it is a slowish drive because of narrow roads. Where daughter lives is near Workington so on the north west coast, where we are going is roughly the other side of Windermere from Bowness. If you have ever crossed the ‘lake’ on the ferry it is very near where it lands. I think next week drops a good ten degrees and it is going to be wet.
