Looking for any information on Williams ancestors. John Williams (1840-1901?) married Elizabeth ?? (1847?). Northop & Hawarden, (Flints, Wales) areas. Children: William (1869); Vincent (1871); Daniel (1872); Emrys (1874); Phoebe A (1877); Mary F (1878); Thomas (?); Harry (?) Family moved to Prescot, Lancs some time after 1878. John was a coal miner before moving to Prescot. His sons appear to have left mining to work in the watch-making trade. On 1901 Census Elizabeth is stated as being a coal merchant. Unusual for a woman to be a trader in those times? Daniel (watch repairsman) married Alice Dickenson (1870) in 1900. 1 known child, John Alfred Hebert (1901), possibly others? John Alfred Herbert emigrated to South Africa & is my grandfather. Any info welcome! |
