My great great grandfather Richard Williams was born in Ellesmere, Shropshire in 1858. From his birth certificate I have the names of his parents Humphrey Williams and Sarah Williams (maiden name Thomas). I have a marriage certificate for the parents but no ages are given. This was Humphrey's second marriage. I have found entries in the censuses of 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 for Richard but have been unable to trace the parents. In 1861 Richard (aged 3) was living in Ellesmere with an uncle and aunt Thomas and Emma Baker. In 1871 Richard (aged 12) was a servant working at Duddleston Hall. In 1881 he was a wheelwright and living with a different uncle and aunt, Peter and Martha Barlow, at Duddleston Heath. I have since discovered that Sarah Thomas and Martha Barlow were sisters. I would love to hear from anyone who has any information on Humphrey and Sarah, or who can shed any light on the relationship between the Barlows, Bakers and Thomases. |
