Thanks Elouise but but my William Winstanley was born 1794 or 1795 so It could be either the Rotherham or the Newcastle Under Lyme. As you say pot luck I think.

Thanks Elouise I have tried Lancs and Cheshire the only match I can find is Yorkshire although I am only guessing.

Carol Ann

Carol Ann Report 27 Sep 2010 20:25

William may have married 1st time round in another county, as in the 1841 states not birn in county....at a guess I'd say Cheshire or he came over from Ireland...Wales

Although Winstanley does seem to be a Lancashire surname...

Susan - William Winstanley seems to be a very popular name in Lancashire during that period. There are numerous birth and marriage records on Family Search - http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch.

You might find it interesting to have a look on there (it's free and easy to use).
