Find Ancestors

I am trying to find out the date that my great great grandfather died. He emmigrated to the States in approx 1920ish, and i know that he sent my great grandmother her wedding dress from there when she married my great grandfather.

Is anyone able to help, or have any information on where i can find this information.

The only way to be to order his birth certificate and see what his actual DOB was and then cross reference it with Ann's findings.

Just a note of caution, I dont think the Arizona death is the right one -that date of birth is JULY whereas yours is in the 3 months to March

Ancestry has a James Whitty taking out naturalization in US in New York in 1929 but you need Worldwide sub to Ancestry to see the record which I dont have -maybe some other kind researcher does have it and can help?

I 've found that record and unfortunately it only shows his name.

The Ernest James Whitty seems to come from the same place and looks like his birth would have been registered the same time as the James Whitty birth reg I posted.

I think I would order the birth cert and find out his DOB, this will help with a search in the US for his death and may rule Ernest in or out of the equation???

Leah Hussey was indeed his wife and my great grandmothers mother. James Whitty was her father and it would seem he re-married when he went to the states. But I cannot find his birth recorded as 21.12.1881

did you order the possible birth certificate registration that I posted for James Whitty in the 1st quarter 1882, if not this maybe the only way to confirm whether or not he used Ernest when he got to the states?

Presumably he didn't divorce Leah........... it was very uncommon for a divorce to happen back then as it could cost a huge amount to the everyday man. Now if this is correct this maybe the reason for adding Ernest to his name???

I havent yet. I think i will visit Yeovil at some point when i am next on holiday from work, as i live in Somerset. Then hopefully, i will be able to see the birth certificate or i will order it direct.

Thanks for all your help, will keep you updated.

I know that Leah also had more children after James had immigrated, and these children have the Whitty surname, but not sure if this is to another Mr Whitty or they used their mothers name. I can see from one of the census that she was living alone with her elder children, one of which is my great grandmother.
