Are you sure about that maiden name? It should be recorded on their birth entries I but can't see them.

if she said she never married- how did she explain her name change?

What were the names of the siblings she was raised with?

If you look on ...SEARCH TREES.... someone else has one of Peggy's children on their tree.
Perhaps they can help if you contact them by clicking on their name there.

Have you looked for her birth under MARTIN-just in case she was born before the parents married?

Minnie, the name change isn't relevant really as she could just have taken on his name. Have found the childrens' brith records, they match up. I wonder if she had married before as she was 35 when the youngest was born?

Someone has posted Margaret and her parents on a public tree on Ancestry.
Little information there, but it might give a lead to a possible connection to DawnB's mother in law.

Have you any idea of where mother-in-law and Peggy were living c. late 1930s?
You could check full names in the old electoral lists, ...but no lists kept for war years.

Old electoral lists are kept in an archive or main library local to the address.
They are searched by address, not surname.

They take a bit of getting used to, but are not difficult to search.
The area is split into parliamentary wards, eg. North ward, Central ward etc and each ward has it's own section within the book for the area.
Usually there is a list of streets within that ward listed at the beginning of a section.

Each ward then has it's streets listed alphabetically and the eligible voters at each address are listed by the house numbers in each street.
