Thankyou for the replies. I have marr. cert. for Joseph Evans and Frances Elizabeth Wenham. and details of them and their family on the 1861 census but can find no trace of either of them after that. Joseph Evans was believed to have been born around 1818 in Middlesex. Frances Elizabeth Evans (Wenham ) was born in Tonbridge Wells in 1833. Regards. Kath.

Their children on the 1861 census were Elizabeth b. 1853, Sarah b. 1856, Ellen b. 1857, Selina b. 1859 there was believed to be another daughter called Deborah Louise who was possibly the unamed child on the census.

So Francis is listed as Elizabeth in 1861

Could this be Elizabeth Evans.......... again she states unmarried

Thanks again for all that information. I will look into the possiblity that the Elizabeth Wenham on the 1881 census is our Frances Elizabeth She does tend to use both her names but we have another Elizabeth Frances, b. 1840, her sister, who was my husband's great grandmother who first married a John Smith and then Alfred Harris. However I have a feeling that the Elizabeth living with the Muggeridge famy is a different one again. The confusing thing is that they seem to use the same christian names over and over again !!

Thankyou to K., PollyPoppet and Lindsey for your contributions. As you will see from my replies, they largely confirm information I already have but thankyou anyway for taking the trouble. The confusing thing is that Frances Elizabeth uses both her names, she also has a sister Elizabeth Frances, my husband's great grandmother. They also tend to alter their ages to suit themselves !!
I am really looking for more information on Joseph and family for a closer relative to that branch of the family but we can't find his death or that of Frances Elizabeth or a remarriage for either. My e.mail address is kathleen.harris4@ ntlworld.com if you wish to contact me there.

Denise, I think that you will find that the Elizabeth Wenham on the 1881 census , sister of Mary Ann, was the daughter of Harriet Wenham.( nee Edwards ) They are on the 1841 census, and the 1851 census. On the 1851 census Mary Ann is married and is now Muggeridge.
