Hi, and thanks, I'm only guessing at this stage but I reckon the Eliza Welling on the 1851 Census born in Wellington may be a good possibility. Will keep on looking. Appreciate your help as sometimes you just never know until you keep digging and thats the best part.

Got me stumped!

Somerset parishes are far & few between on IGI. You need to go to Taunton Archives. I know cos that's where I have to go. Gets a bit expensive from Australia!!

I do think Eliza is a sister, could be of William or Mary Anne. I would say Joseph & she were in service together.

Joseph is actually on the 1851 census twice!!! Once at home, and once at "work" where he is described as Footman

I'm suspicious of the chlildren . There is quite a gap between the two older and the 3 younger.

I've loooked on www.freebmd.org.uk, nothing. I can't find them on the 1841 Census, and I can't find them on the IGI on www.familysearch.org

hmmmmmm ...... no William or Charles Welling on the IGI, nor on freebmd. BUT there is a Charles WENSLEY born in 1839 in Taunton!

My suspicion is that Eliza is a sister (maybe) of Mary Anne, and thta the two older children were possibly born before her marriage to Joseph. Although that is counteracted by the fact that they were witnesses in 1837!!

Joseph Welling and Eliza Welling (don't know if they are married or just related) were witnesses at a marriage for William Hartnell and Mary Anne Wensley in 1837 at St John's Parish of Wellington, Somerset.

I am curious to see where the link is between the marrying couple and the Wellings. Did they live close to each other? Were they related? Or what other reasons there could be. William and Mary, when married lived in Sampford Arundel, Somerset. I have alot of information on the Hartnells, just curious for the Welling (witnesses).

Can any one shed any light on Joseph and Eliza. I couldn't find a marriage for them post Sept 1837 on BDM.
