I have details of 2 Mary Weavers which is confusing. One Mary Weaver born to Robert Weaver 1805 and Jane (unknown maiden name) in 1840 in Coddington, Notts, appears in the 1851, 61, 81 and 1891 census. In the 1891 census she is a spinster, aged 51, housekeeper, in Newark. I have details of another Mary Weaver born to the same parents in 1847, appearing on the 1851 census, aged 4. I had presumed that the first Mary had died before the 2nd Mary was born and was named after the first but Mary was still alive in 1891. Can anyone help me please? |

You say the Mary born 1840 is on censuses from 1851 to 1891..........and that Mary born 1847 is on 1851............. |

Thank you Andrew and Flick - I have been trying to fathom out the discrepancy. I was given the Mary 1847 details by a relative but as you say, there doesn't seem to be a Mary born 1847. I think I shall delete her details. Re the 1841 census where Robert is with a Dorothy of the same age, I don't understand the circumstances. I can see the scenario where if Dorothy had died and Robert had then married Jane but Dorothy didn't die until 1876, years after all the other children were born. Could Dorothy have been a sister to Robert or did it specify her as Robert's wife on the 1841 census? Thank you for helping. |

Looks like she's back to being Dorothy again in 1871: |

I wonder if this is Mary in 1871-the handwriting is quite bad: |

So you didn't actually have a record of this Mary 1847 anywhere.........just unsupported 'info' from a third party. It would have been helpful if you had said that to begin with, rather than stating that she was on the 1851 census aged 4!! |

Thank you again for your help. Interesting that in the 1871 census there is Mary Heaver, who as you suggest could be Mary Weaver and also a Hannah Weaver aged 13 as I have a Hannah Weaver dob 1858 born Moorhouses in my tree. She is the daughter of Wiilliam Weaver 1831 - c1912(my Gr Gr Grandfather) and Mary Cousins and therefore Mary's neice. Hannah is my Great Aunt. |

Do you think Jane is Jane Dorothy? I suppose it would confirm that on Mary's birth certificate? |

Speculation would be foolhardy.......... |

I only meant that if I had a birth certificate I would be able to see if the Mother was Mary Dorothy or not......... |

In that case.........it should! And, of course, you'd learn her maiden surname |
