I feel that I have researched my family history thoroughly, however, recently another relative told me she feels that I have got my Grandma Jane's info wrong and I can no longer afford Ancestry.co.uk to check things out. Is there anyone who could check the folowing
Jane Walsh born 1877 died 12/4/1914 in Heckmondwike
married John Brearley born 1867 in 1898 in Heckmondwike
had 6 children William, Gladys, Rose, Florence, Elizabeth and Joseph.
I only have Joseph's date of birth which is 16-4-1913.

I am sure that I have the right Jane Walsh but would welcome confirmation from someone
Many thanks
Sue

When you say you have the right Jane Walsh do you mean you have traced a particular Jane Walsh back, her parents and ancestors. But we don't know what you have found.

If so does that mean you have the marriage certificate Kucinta added above and it gives you Jane's father's name, because without that I don't know what we are looking for.

Births Jun 1912
Brearley Clifford Walsh Dewsbury 9b 1075

Births Jun 1913
Brearley Joseph E<<< Walsh Dewsbury 9b 1093

Dewsbury includes Heckmondwike

............. this is the death you mentioned

Deaths Jun 1914
Brearley Jane 37 Dewsbury 9b 750

I wish I understood what the question was, lol.

wow thank you everyone for all your help.I really am amazed by your kindness. Kucinta , you are amazing Ihave been trying to get the dates of birth of my Dad Joseph's brother and sister for a long time from a relative and now I know them. My Dad died when I was six and it was only two years ago that I found out the name oy Grandma and that I am of Irish extraction. I know I am being very cheeky asking but would there be any chance that you could find out the details of the two children that died. I didn't even know that Dad had two other siblings and it would mean so very much to me.

Closmum

Closmum Report 31 Jan 2011 00:14

Also I had been under the impression that all Dad's siblings were born in Heckmondwike, however the census entry you have Kucinta shows places like Batley and liversedge - does that mean that they were born there rather than Heckmondwike

chrissiex

chrissiex Report 31 Jan 2011 00:20

Before 1911 the mother's surname is not shown in the births index so it is not possible to pinpoint births to any particular couple

you can do the same search as anyone else at freebmd to find Brearley births that could be the couple's children and see whether there are deaths for those names before 1911

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl

I guess i will never know what information you are looking for or whether you have your grandparents' marriage certificate etc etc, but you are welcome all the same

Sorry Chrissie, I wasn't meaning to ignore you earlier, I was just so thriled with the information that I did receive which answered my query. Simply that I had the right Jane Walsh in my family tree. I did not know of the website that you mentioned , so thank you. I need no longer bother people on here. Thank you again for your interest in my query

Chrissie Re:- above message. I have quickly scanned through the BMD website for details of the Brearley siblings but have found nothing, which was disappointing. Also I imagine that I would not be able to find the names of the two children born to my Grandma that died before 1911 without using a site such as Ancestry.co.uk. Also Chrissie, no I don't have my grandparents birth ertificate all my research was done on Ancestry.co.uk. I would like to thank you for finding details of my Dad Joseph E Brearleys birth as it confirms that he was born in Heckmondwike , as I thought.

I still wish I knew what the question is !!

You want to know whether you have the "right" Jane Walsh but if you have the Jane Walsh who married Brearley how could that not be the right Jane Walsh? but what Jane Walsh is she, other than the Jane Walsh who married Brearley? is it me being thick?

These are the Brearley deaths in Dewsbury district for young children up to 1911, I just searched for Brearley deaths in Dewsbury 1898 to 1911 and scanned the list for young ages at death, the age is next to the name

Deaths Jun 1899
Brearley Ephraim 0 Dewsbury 9b 404

Deaths Jun 1901
Brearley Edith 1 Dewsbury 9b 372

Deaths Mar 1902
Brearley Arthur 1 Dewsbury 9b 466

Deaths Jun 1903
Brearley George Arthur 0 Dewsbury 9b 357

Deaths Mar 1906
BREARLEY Joseph Leslie 5 Dewsbury 9b 433

Deaths Jun 1906
Brearley Elizabeth 1 Dewsbury 9b 395

Deaths Jun 1909
BREARLEY Lily 0 Dewsbury 9b 355

Deaths Mar 1910
BREARLEY Edward Bailey 2 Dewsbury 9b 410

Deaths Dec 1911
Brearley Willie 0

not so many but only the matching birth certificates will say who the parents were

if you search there for Brearley births 1898 to 1911 in Dewsbury district you will find all of the other children I think, who were living in 1911, for example

Births Mar 1907
BREARLEY Rose Annie Dewsbury 9b 576

Remember that for all bmd information before 1916 all of Ancestry's information comes from freebmd so searching it at freebmd directly for free gets the same results, except that freebmd doesn't find 'sounds like' results the way Ancestry does.

I agree, Chrissiex.
The only way you could have the wrong Jane is when you start to go back before she married and follow the wrong one then.....

Deaths Jun 1912
Brearley Clifford 0 Dewsbury 9b 698

(The birth Chrissiex found on freeBMD, after census 1911 and before Joseph's)

As Chrissiex said, Dewsbury covers Batley, Liversedge and Heckmondwike amongst others, so they must be pretty close, and all the births should come under Dewsbury.

Susan, the only way to be sure that you have the correct Jane is to buy her marriage certificate which will give her father's name and occupation. Then you can look at census records on Ancestry to try to identify her with her parents. You then need to buy her birth certificate.

You cannot be sure of building an accurate tree without buying certificates. If you don't have Jane's marriage certificate, then perhaps that is where the root of the difference between your tree and the tree of your relative stems from. (Excuse the puns!)

Have you found Jane with her family in 1881 please?

Closmum Report 31 Jan 2011 13:41

Thank you everyone. I do have the right Jane and I am sorry that I did not manage to explain my question in a clearer way. As I said I have spent a lot of time researching and was sure that my details were correct. I can now see the discrepancy with my relatives details comes from differing information in the various census
Thank you Chrissie for the list of deaths of Brearley babies. I will try to ascertain which would be my aunts/uncles. Also no you are not being thick. My relative gave a different year of birth for Jane. As I said I know nothing about my Dad's family as i do not live in Yorkshire where as she does and knows all the family etc. I, therefore, panicked and assumed that I was wrong. However, from all the info I have received I see that my research is sound and I can carry on with my family tree now
